In short, the items picked up were in overall very poor condition. We set no reserves on most items we sell, advertising to a nationwide audience with large exposure, and get a "fair price" for thousands of items each month at standing-room-only auctions. Mr. [redacted] expectations far exceed...

real world values. We are usually quite clear (and accurate) when asked what we think the current market prices will be on any given item. I can give dozens of examples of items that bring astonishing prices at our venue. If we did not get "fair prices" we would have great difficulty maintaining a 49-year business with over 10,000 clients.

Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
I received an email from you yesterday but no attachment was there. I feel like we have waited long enough for our money and we really have no proof that he ever sent any checks. I did talk to the Wisconsin Rapids post office (her name was [redacted]) and she said that he told her that he had no problems with this sort of thing and he told me he had the same problem with someone in Arizona. We also talked to our post office here in Venice Fl and they have not seen any other checks from his except the one he sent that was not meant for me. Please help us settle this.

Review: Barretts were hired by my ex-husband to move his gun safe from my home. On 03/20/2015, Barretts moved the safe, with 2 owners, [redacted] and [redacted] and one worker named [redacted]. When they reached my (Semco) [redacted]io door, [redacted] attempted to lift his end of the dolly and dropped the safe onto the threshold of the [redacted]io door. As they left, I attempted to shut the swinging door and it would not close. I took pictures of the dented and scraped threshold. I showed it to my friend who had been at my home prior to the movers showing up. I called Barretts informing [redacted] of the damage to my doorway. He informed me that he would have [redacted] call me, as [redacted] was their construction guy. On 03/23/2015, [redacted] called and came out. He stated he would go to Home Depot and see about a threshold. On 03/24, [redacted] called and stated he would need his "contractor friend" to look at the door. On 04/06/2015, I called Barretts again. [redacted] again stated he was waiting to hear from his construction friend. On 04/15/2015, I called Metcalf Lumber, where the [redacted]io door had been purchased. Metcalf informed me that only a Semco threshold could be used. They gave me the name of a local handyman that works on Semco doors. He came and looked at the damage and stated the entire [redacted]io door and siding around it would have to be removed in order to replace the damaged threshold. He stated the threshold could not be repaired. He informed me to replace the threshold would cost about $300.00 labor plus the part. Metcalf Lumber quoted the Semco threshold at $173.77. I took the information to Barretts. I spoke with the 3 owners. They told me to "get a lawyer" or sue my ex, as he had hired them. They said, I have to call my homeowners as they are not insured for my property. They now refuse to fix the doorway they damaged. They were rude and intimidating. [redacted] said my property was not sufficient to handle removing the safe. They dropped the gun safe on my threshold and damaged my doorway.Desired Settlement: I want Barretts to pay for the repair of my door. The estimate was for $500.00. I feel Barretts damaged my property and have a responsibility to repair my property.

We have advised the homeowner that this is first an issue with her insurance, all factors involved are at her request, therefore we believe the liability rests with them.

Review: I delivered merchandise to be sold by Barrets Auction on July 8th. My check was supposed to be mailed the following week. I was told it was mailed to the wrong address and they would send out another check. This was 4 weeks ago. I have called numerous times for updates and all I was told was "it was in the mail". I got the distinct feeling that I was bugging them with my inquiries. Today when I asked why they couldn't cancel the check and send me another one, I was told they would send another one on the 16th, 30 days after the second one was sent. Why 30 days? No clue...I was never given that information. I was just hung up on. Yes, hung up on. Any professional business owner would have taken responsibility and canceled the "lost" check weeks ago and sent another one with a tracking number, along with apologizing for the inconvenience. Not Barretts Auction. Apparently a $30.00 canceled check fee was too much for this business to pay. I don't even know how much the check is for, Barrets hasn't disclosed this information to me. I have never experienced such blatant disrespect from a business in my life. Every time I spoke to them prior to today, I was as cordial as one could be considering the situation. I was upset but tried to not be disrespectful or rude. I did raise my voice during a conversation a couple of weeks ago out of complete frustration, but apologized after. They have clearly displayed their complete disregard for their customers. There is no excuse for the way I have been treated by this company, especially after giving them family treasures to sell after the passing of my father because we needed the money. Because of their lack of caring, and communication, I do not believe they have any intention on sending my check on the 16th, as stated. If this dispute can not be solved via The Revdex.com, I will have no choice but to take them to small claims court. At this point, this complaint has much more to do with the principal and good business practices than the money.Desired Settlement: I want my check sent to me via next day air with a tracking number. I do not believe that Barrets Auction has any intention on sending me a check on August 16th, as they have stated.

Review: I hired Barrett & Sons to pick up and auction off items from my parents estate. They came and picked up the items and gave me a list of what they were taking, very vague list. I was concerned at the time with everything being hauled to their facility, and how they kept each estates items separate to ensure that they were not mixed up with another parties. I was told that they had a system and marked everything when they unloaded at their auction house, and that they have been doing this for many years. The items were auctioned off over a several week period. I received three checks for the proceeds of the items sold. I called them because I had not seen any items listed as sold from the large box containing approximately 20 to 25 sandwich size bags of jewelry that I sent with them when they picked up the other household items. I have called the auction place several times, have talked to a person twice and left at least three messages with them. I was told that they were very busy and that they would have to go through all of the auctions and see where the items went. I was not given a time line or any other information as to how they would settle this, I was just rushed off of the phone. I still have not gotten a return call from them and it has been about a month now. I specifically asked the man, who was one of the owners, how they would sell the jewelry items when they picked them up. He said that his wife would probably take pictures of all of the items to advertise them. All of the 20 to 25 bags were filled 3/4 of the way full of jewelry that belonged to my Mother. This has been very upsetting to me, as these were personal items, they were discussed about at the time they were taken, and not listed at all on any of the sales transactions from the auctions for my parents things and I can't even get a return phone call, or have someone tell me that this will be resolved. It is like they have been stolen from the estate, not sold, and I can not get an answer or response.Desired Settlement: They are going to have to provide documentation of all of the bags of jewelry that were sold, in what matter they were sold, ( in the sandwich bags I gave them, or however they were present to the people at the auction, and for how much they were sold for, and present me with a check for the amount. Otherwise they will have to return the box with all of the contents in it, which I doubt they can do.

Review: We contracted Barrett and Sons to sell the remaining furnishings of our house we sold in Wisconsin on June 18, 2015. We were told they would auction it on the 6-30 and we would be mailed a check on the 1st of July. We contacted them on the 7th of July because we had not received a check and were told they would auction our belongings on the 14th of July and they would mail a check on the 15th of July. We went on vacation and our mail was held and delivery started back up on the 27th of July. We did get a check from them, but it said that is was for the sale of a couch and chair which we had neither for sale. So I called them and they told me it was not our check and our check was for over $780.00's and they had mailed it on the 15th. We were told to call back on Friday the 31st if we had not received it. We did and I was told they would stop payment on that check and reissue a check on Monday the 3rd of August. On the 11th of August we still had not received a check and they were getting ready for an auction and said they would call back on Wednesday with an answer. They did not call so we called again and were told they did not mail the check until Friday the 7th and that they received the check I sent back to them that we got by mistake. On Friday the 14th we called again because we still have not received a check and were told it was our post office fault and to check with them. We went to our post office on Saturday and they do not have the check. I called back on Monday and said I wanted to have my sister in-law pick up our check and have her overnight to us and was told he would not because there were two checks out there he wants to know where they are. He also said he is having the same problem with someone in Arizona. We just want our money but he is not being helpful. He said he would go to his post office today and see what he can find out from them about the checks he supposedly mailed and call me back. My bet is he will not call.Desired Settlement: Send me my money overnight and do a signature required so he knows that we received it.
