Review: We had them move us from NY to AZ.. One box never got to us and we have a broken TV and bed now... We emailed and called them a number of times and still did not get back the missing items or a refund for the items that were broken by them....

Review: My boyfriend and I hired Barry's Moving to move us from [redacted], NY to [redacted], NY on 5/**/13. They told us that we had to pay cash and did not have us sign any contract. This should have raised red flags but, I thought that since they were insured, they would be reputable. I was not able to be present at the move because I had to work. My boyfriend and my father were present at the move but my father stayed by the truck and did not witness the actual incident. When trying to get our couch and loveseat through the door of the apartment, they mentioned that it was a tight fit but indicated to my boyfriend that they could do it. While putting the couch and loveseat through the door, they ripped both and damaged the wall. My boyfriend, although he saw them do the damage, did not say anything because he is easily embarrassed when it comes to complaining about things or starting what he worries will be a confrontation. He didn't immediately tell me about the damage because he knew that I would be very upset. When I got back to the apartment the following week (I am only at the apartment occasionally), I noticed the smaller loveseat was ripped slightly in the front, on the lower left side. Although I wanted to call to complain, it was a small rip and my boyfriend calmed me down. A week or 2 later, in talking, my boyfriend and father mentioned the multiple rips on the larger couch that I had failed to notice because they were on the back. When I looked at the couch, the back had extensive amounts of damage. In addition, the armrest was also ripped. We called Barry's Movers to discuss this with them. They said that they needed to come out to see the damage and I scheduled an appointment with them. In order to accommodate their schedule, I had to cancel a very important appointment. I waited at the apartment for them to show up and, when they did not arrive, I called them. I spoke with [redacted] who told me he was not going to make it because he was still on Long Island doing a job. He did not even have the courtesy to call and tell me that he was not going to be able to make it. My father called to talk with them as I was very upset. He schedule an appointment with them to see the damage they had done for the following week. My father, boyfriend, and I all cleared our schedules to be present. When they arrived, [redacted] showed up with one of his workers that he thought had done our move. We then explained that he was not the same man as on 5/**/13. [redacted] at first denied being responsible for the damage because we had waited too long to complain. When we explained the situation (I am only there part-time), he said he would have his insurance company call us. After leaving, [redacted] had one of the 2 men who did our move call. He spoke then acknowledged doing the damage but claimed that my boyfriend was told that they are not responsible for any damage and said it would be okay. My boyfriend adamantly denies this and he would not okay something like that as he knows that this would not have been okay with myself or him. Barry then stated he would get back in touch with us. We waited and did not hear back. My boyfriend called Barry's Moving and spoke to Earl on a number of occasions, asking for [redacted] to call us back so we could discuss the next step.[redacted] would not return my boyfriend's phone calls. Finally, my boyfriend got the number to [redacted]'s insurance company (A.T. Tavella). We called to register a complaint with them on 6/**/13. We spoke with [redacted], who referred our case to an agent ([redacted]) at Great American Insurance. I sent this agent pictures of the damage to the couch, loveseat, and wall. I also sent him a copy for the original sale of the couch and loveseat. I kept in contact with [redacted] for the status of our claim (claim # [redacted]) and, after a month of dealing with [redacted], he told us that the deductible was $1,000 and, since the couch and loveseat cost less than that, the insurance company was not involved in this claim. He also stated that his company does not do anything about the wall that was damaged as that wouldn't be covered by them. I was very annoyed that he had wasted a month of time that I could have been pursuing other means since I had told him, from the outset, that the couches cost less than $1,000 and he had a copy of the original receipt. So, now I am filing a complaint with the Revdex.com because [redacted]'s insurance company states that we have to deal directly with Barry's Moving Company and [redacted] will not return our calls. Please help with this. I have pictures of the damage to the couch, the loveseat, and the wall. I also have a copy of my original receipt for the couch and loveseat.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund so that I can restore the couch, loveseat, and wall to the way they were prior to having Barry's Moving Company move them on 5/**/13. I take great pride in my things and the couch, loveseat, and wall were in perfect condition prior to Barry's Moving Company touching them. In addition, I want an apology for the terrible customer service and unprofessional manner in which they handled this (e.g., not showing up for a scheduled appointment, actively ignoring phone calls, etc.).

Response:

We were hired by [redacted] to move her household items on 5/**/13.

The move was done with no incidents or complaints.

About 1 month after the job was completed [redacted] gave notice that two piece (sofa and loveseat) were damaged during the move.

We arranged to go see the damaged items even though it was so long after the move was done.

Based on what we saw coupled with our conversations with the [redacted] family, we concluded that the damage was not our fault. However to maintain good customer relationship we offered to make some kind of compensation.

[redacted] requested $3000 for the items in question. Because of the high value she placed on these items (it seemed overpriced) we referred her instead to our insurance company.

A file was made by [redacted] but was denied by our insurance company.

She could not produce a receipt for the $3000 value she placed on these couches. The receipt she showed was for $600.

She could not prove that we actually did the damage. Our insurer learned that [redacted] and family had previously moved those items themselves several times before and the damages could have very possibly been done then.

Again,

we got a complaint,

went to check it out,

made a good faith offer,

gave our insurance info for a claim to be filed,

were found not liable.

Response:

Again.

We got a complaint and went to check it out.

We did not think we were responsible for the damages shown but made a good faith offer.

Our offer was rejected so we gave our insurance information.

Our insurance company did an investigation and denied the claim.
