When Mr*** came in with his vehicle it was written up as a No Charge checkThis is correctFrom there our view is differentI overheard Mr*** talking about how he already knew what codes the vehicle had and felt it just needed a solenoid replacedI came out of my back office, greeted
him and informed him that what we needed to do was to perform our ProTech Service which allows us to drive the vehicle with the Scan tool and monitor the transmission and computer signalThe cost of the service was $and he agreed to itFor some reason, I had this feeling that he really did not comprehend what I was saying so again I explained what we would be doing and again told him the price was $Part of the reason I went over this twice was because he just got done telling me he spent money on trying to pass the Automotive Service Excellence test but fail, so he felt like he blew all his money
While the car was being road tested, I went out to talk to him and the conversation did include the time we take to check out a vehicle and that we can’t do things for freeAfter we checked out the vehicle I sat down with him and went over the results which confirmed that replacing just the solenoid would have been a waste of money for himHis vehicle had over 227,miles on it and we found the Torque converter, and internal part of the transmission was malfunctioning setting the codeHe also needed additional repairs over and above the transmission problem, with a cost that could easily exceed the value of the vehicle He explained that he did not have the money to fix the car so I told him that I would complete his invoice and that all he owed us was the $His response was “ I don’t have any money.” He then suggested that I take his Credit Card number down but to run it in two weeks since that’s when he got paidDoes that sound like someone who thought it was free From my point of view, he had ample knowledge of the cost and plenty of chances before we did any work to tell me he couldn’t afford the $
Without going into a long story, I told him I would give him his car back if he would leave me some collateral and pay me in two weeksHe left me with a timing light, but over two weeks have passed and I have not heard from him So to answer his demands, I submit the following: He has never paid me, so I owe him nothing other than to give him his timing light backI do apologize for losing my temper, although it never went further than raising my voice But let me point out how absurd this complaint isThe customer request that we diagnosis his transmission problem, which we take the time to do, and then somehow he becomes a victim because he can’t afford to pay for the work The correct action would be for Mr*** to apologize to me, and pay the $as he agreed to, but that not expected Therefore, if he wants to come by and pick up his timing light, I will void the bill and take the loss in order to resolve this Hopefully that will close this complaint
