Baschnagel Bros. Inc. Reviews (2)

Review: Called business months before date of service and left message to "please call back and give me an estimate for gutter cleaning and possible hole repair" (from squirrel damage). Never heard back, despite calling a second & third time, only to get an answering machine. Did not leave message for them.

Roofers showed up unannounced on a day we were not home. Did said repairs and left. Only way we knew that work was done was by the huge mess of leaves, twigs, etc. left all along the perimeter of the house.

No estimate EVER given. Work done without consent. Extremely high bill ($650 + $57.69 tax). I researched the average price for gutter & downspout cleaning in NY to be $183. No itemized detail of how many "holes" repaired in roof (unable to see if work was really done). We would never have agreed to this price and would have taken business elsewhere.

Threats made to "put us in collections and if we don't pay, they will put a lien on our house". Very hostile customer service rep.Desired Settlement: Will agree to pay $200. ($183 plus tax)

Review: In 2013 Baschnagel was called to check out the roof of the house that was leaking. They came and inspected the roof and gave an estimate of $1,800 plus tax to have it fixed. The roof was fixed however, the roof statrted to leak immediately after the job was done. I tried contact the company on many occassions with no response. The [redacted] will take my name and ensure that someone will call back and of course I heard nothing. After continous calls to the company in late 2014, I finally had [redacted] come out on January [redacted], 2015 to take a look at the damages that the bad job had caused in the house. All rooms in the house leaked as a result of their negligence and bad repair job. My personal belongings, furniture, clothes, microwave, groceries, etc. were damaged from leaks due to their improper and inferior repair. To top it all off, [redacted] (who by the way was totally disrespectful and rude in his speaking with me) gave me a new estimate of $3,800 to have the roof done again. He claimed he a different part of the roof was the problem now.Desired Settlement: To repair the front slates that they charged $1,800 for which is still leaking.

Response:

Please be advised that in 2013 Baschnagel Bros. was called to look a the roof at [redacted]. The roof has a mansard of Slate on the front and a Flat Roof on the rest of the house. We gave (2) proposals:1. To Remove damaged slate - to Install new plywood and 30lb. Felt and to install 80 new slates to match existing as best as possible on the mansard. The price was $1800.00 + Tax. It was repair - not a new roof. We repaired a section that was rotted - not the whole roof. Slate roofs have to be maintained. 2. To Install new Flat roof with a 5 Year Guarantee was $5,200.00 They need it - the existing roof is in very bad shape. They chose to repair the mansard and to do nothing with the flat roof.We went back recently to see the leak - and it was determined that the leak is coming form the flat roof.We gave them a lower price of $3,800.00 to install a new flat roof. The repair that we did in 2013, does not cover the flat roof.Very truly yours,[redacted]

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

The response given by Baschnagel lacked the fact that when they were initially called, it was for a leaky roof. They inspected the roof and gave me an estimate of $1800 to fix it. I was not made aware of the quote for the damage of the flat roof which they now found was the cause of the leak until after the job for the slates have been completed. Baschnagel never gave me an estimate for the flat roof and therefore I did not have a choice as they are making it seem. To me, they were neglegent in their inspection of the roof. The new quote that was given with regards to the flat roof of $3800/3900was after contacting them when my roof began to leak again after they supposedly "fixed" it. It took several months to get someone to come and take a look at the roof just to give me a new quote that was not given initially. Their roofing service as well as their customer service was poor. [redacted] (inspector) was rude and downright offensive and abrassive in the way he spoke with me and in handling the matter.

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Sincerely,

Business

Response:

Dear Revdex.comHere are the facts. We were contracted to replace the missing and damaged tile on the facade of the house - on August **, 2013. We did the work on September *, 2013. We replaced the rotted wood and 80 pieces of missing and damaged tile. I have photos to show the repairs. The roof is very old - and must be maintained we would not guarantee it because we did not install a new roof. The price was 1800. + tax.We also told [redacted](the [redacted]) on that day that she needed a new flat roof. We gave her a proposal on Sept *, 2014, for $5,200 and she would have a guarantee (we have copies of the proposal). When we were called back because of a leak - [redacted] went over and tried to explain that the leak is coming from the flat roof (we have photos of the flat roof also). I know that [redacted] keeps saying that [redacted] was rude - However, I heard him on the phone with her and he couldn't get a word in-he kept trying to tell her that it was the flat roof that was leaking and she just didn't want to hea r it. He also dropped the price to give her a new roof down to 3,800. She insists that we are responsible for her entire slate roof-which we're not-it is very old and has to be regularly repaired or totally replaced in order to guarantee it. However, I will send a crew at a no charge to go over the entire slate roof and replace any further missing & damaged tiles-It has been a brutal winter. I honestly don't know what else to say about this. Thank you, [redacted].
