Bate, Jon Jewelry Studio Reviews (5)

I just received your letter on March 3rd and here is my responseJon Bate ruined rings of mine that were in perfect condition when he received them from meHis workmanship was poor and I had to have another jeweler repair themI was advised by legal counsel not to do business with him any longerI did not instruct him on how to do his work, whatever he did was his decision not mineWhen I decided I no no longer wanted to wait I asked for my ring back and expected it to be in the same good condition that it was inHe also posted my private emails to him on his public Facebook page which is unprofessional to say the leastI want to be reimbursed for the four rings that MrBate ruined. Sincerely,*** ***

***,I am attaching a copy of the original claim check/work order that we gave *** when she left the turquoise ringShe also has this documentIt clearly says to remove the turquoise, which we did to begin the process which she eventually cancelled. Also when *** picked up her three other rings she seemed happy with the rhodium work and paid and took the rings with no mention of them not being rightWe have repeatedly offered to re-rhodium her rings at no charge. We did not post her emails or email address on Facebook as screen shots, we only described what was in the communications and what dates they transpired to show the scope of the issueI do have the screen shots if you need to see themBut I'm not attaching them because this seems to be a sensitive issue with ***. It was not until she received her jewelry that we shipped back to her at no charge that she became angry about the turquoise being removedShe then began to complain about the rhodium work that had been done months earlierThe rhodiumed rings had been in her possession and were not in the jewelry shipped to herShe also wanted to return other jewelry she had purchased from us and get a refund.Again we would be happy to re-rhodium her rings at no cost to herHowever we will not pay any shipping charges.Let me know if there are any other clarifications you need.Thank you!Jon Bate

Enclosed is the copy of an e-mail MrBate sent me saying "the turquoise could not be reset into the ring" yet another jeweler reset it back into the ringIf he didn't know how to reset the stone back into the ring he should have informedme of that prior to doing the workI am years old and I have worked in retail for several years and I have never heard of a retailer returning a damaged item to a customer that was in perfectly good condition. And as far as the other three rings, when I saw the returned ring I no longer trusted MrBateto work on anything else of mine. I want to be reimbursed for the repairs that I had to have done on my four rings.Sincerely,*** ***

As everyone knows there are always two sides to every storyNow that this story has been made public I thought everyone is probably wondering how it all went downThe following is a response to *** complaint that she filed against us with the California Department of justiceThis response took
quite a lot of time and effort to produce right in the middle of our busy Christmas seasonI greatly appreciate all the kind words to all who have made themThank You!!!Jon *** ** ***, Attorney General, State of California, Department of Justice We took possession of *** *** ring on 9-2-She instructed us to cut out the turquoise stone and see if we could cut it down to make a lower profile ringWe have enclosed a photo of the claim check that she sent us and we assume she still has. In mid October 10-15-I began working on ideas and physically making a silver and onyx sample ring to show her complete with photos and sketches AT NO CHARGEI gave her the estimate and sketches and photos on 11-5-2015. On 11-12-in her email she said she wanted to do a pendant instead, declining the ring jobOn 11-12-we were heading into our busy holiday seasonShe wrote in that 11-12-email that it was not for Christmas and there was no rush. On 2-8-she checked in via e mail about the pendant jobI responded with the following; Hi ***, No problem, just getting through the Valentines Day crush and will get in touch with you soonSorry for the delayHalloween to Valentines is a grind but we are almost thereThanks for your patience! JonShe replied; Ok, I understandThanksDuring March of I began to think about the pendant designs and how I would manufacture itOn 4-4-I sent her a group of pendant sketches to get an Idea of the design she would like to doAt this point she the decided not to proceed with the project and requested her jewelry to be returned. On 4-7-I emailed her and told her no problem I would return her jewelry and I would take care of the shipping charges. On 4-21-I emailed her the tracking number. On her 4-26-email she wrote she had received the jewelryShe also stated the she was upset that the turquoise had been removed. Then on 5-24-nearly a month after she received her jewelry she began to complain about other jewelry itemsI wrote on 5-24-that I would re-plate her rings at no charge but would not pay the shipping fees. Then nearly two weeks later on 6-7-in her email she writes that she has been advised by another jeweler in her area that she should no longer do business with usAnd asks to return other jewelry items that she purchased from us and get a refund. On 6-15-she emailed complaining once again that I had removed the turquoise from her ringShe was also unhappy about the rhodium platingShe also threatened me with legal actionShe also attached the picture of the original claim receipt that says to remove the turquoise. On 6-16-I replied to her email explaining that the work order from 9-2-clearly instructs me to remove the turquoiseI explained how she changed her mind from a ring to a pendantI reminded her that I shipped her jewelry back to her at my expenseI explained that I would re plate her rings at no charge. In response to the "Comment Or Question Message"We believe Ms*** is being advised by a jeweler in Massachusetts trying to disparage our reputation for their gainThe attached claim check and emails show that we did as instructed and cooperatedThe stone was removed per instruction on a work order because the customer did not like the design of her ringThe work was halted by Ms***We will not pay for the $re-setting charge putting the stone back into the ring she did not like in the first placeWe would re-rhodium her rings at no charge(Our fee to rhodium rings is $60.00)We will not pay $We will not pay the shippingWe did not nor do we want to see the other jewelers receiptsAgain the claim check and email communications are attached

I was living in Cameron Park Ca in and had to move back to Massachusetts because of the wildfires and a damaged lungWhile I was there I had some work done at Jon Bate Jewelry studio in Cameron ParkI had yellow rings dipped in Rhodium and a white gold and turquoise ring that I wanted to have the setting changed to lower the stoneI had to leave the white gold ring there with the jeweler Jon Bate and he said he would get it done soonThis was in September Come November nothing had been done on my ring and he told me it was running into busy season and didn't have time  to do my ring so I reluctantly said okIn the meantime, I had taken one of the rings he dipped in rhodium to the jeweler I have been doing business with for years near my home town and showed them the ringI noticed it was still yellow and wanted to get their opinionThe rings that MrBate did the rhodium on were still showing yellowI sent him some picture via email and he said he would r
