Batteries Plus Bulbs #608 Reviews (%countItem)

I purchased a battery for my motorcycle at the Waldorf location in December of 2018. Actually, I was in the store three times for this purchase! The first time I was in the store, they gave me the wrong battery altogether. I bought the battery on a whim as I was there to purchase something else and I didn't know that they sold car and motorcycle batteries as well. They looked up the make and model for my motorcycle and handed me a battery. I gave them some money and walked out the door. When I got home, I went to install the battery and noticed that it was the wrong one. I went back to the store and returned the first battery within a few days.
The second battery was not the correct one either. It had the terminals reversed so, I was off to the store to return it as well.
The third battery that I purchased lasted less than a month before I had to push start my bike. I ride all year long and don't need a trickle charger to keep my batteries topped off.
Unfortunately for me, the Waldorf location closed before I realized that the problem that I was having with my bike was related to the battery. Since the battery was brand new, I looked for other sources for the problem before I tried a new battery. Of course, I bought the new battery from an actual motorcycle parts store as opposed to a store that sells a whole bunch of stuff that they don't know much about.
I tried to return the battery to another store, the store in Alexandria, VA, to be exact. At first, they weren't very nice but after I explained my situation to them, the three employees that happen to be in the store that day were trying to help me. However, the store's policy is that returns are only permitted within 14 days.
Unless the vehicle doesn't start at all when you install the battery, how would you know that you have a defective battery within 14 days?! You would have to charge the battery every day and watch the voltage drop in order to know that.
Also, because the battery that I had in my possession was reading at 5.6 volts, which is obviously less than the 10 volts that they require in order to honor their warranty, they claim that the low voltage is due to "neglect" and regarded this as user error.
I spoke to someone at the 1-800 number for this organization and was told that they would not return my money because I purchased the item more than 14 days ago and they wouldn't honor the warranty because they consider a dead battery to hold a charge of 11.8 volts and since mine was reading at 5.6, it was my fault because the battery was neglected. I have no idea how I have control over any of this and the policy doesn't seem to be very fair.
I will not be buying any batteries of any kind from the entire chain of stores ever again because their policies are far too strict for the average consumer to ever get a fair chance at getting a resolution to a problem that Batteries + Bulbs created in the first place.
Again, the guys at the store were nice enough to try to help but they're bound to some pretty strict policies that tied their hands.
I see why the Waldorf, MD store went out of business and I'm told that the owner relocated to Upper Marlboro, MD. If they kept the same staff, I'd avoid that store like the plague too. The store employees at the Alexandria, VA location called the Upper Marlboro, MD store to discuss the issue by phone and the Upper Marlboro store staff told them that there was nothing that they would do about the matter. (they didn't say that there was nothing that they could do. They said that there was nothing that they WOULD do). I'm out $113 and the "corporate" customer service person that I spoke to, addressed the matter as if I was were trying to get over on the company in some way. I don't see how any of this is fair.

Customer Response • May 02, 2019

The information on my receipt says "Batteries Plus Bulbs #***. As I stated in my original complaint. This location of the business has closed for good and because they are franchised, I have no way to obtain a remedy for the issue. I could not find a corporate address on their website and all that they have is an 800 number for customer service. I called that number and they simply echoed the same information that I received in the store from the employees at a different location. The address for the store where I purchased the battery is 2160 Crain Hwy. Waldorf, MD 20601.The order no. is ***. My customer no. is ***. Their web address is https://www.batteriesplus.com/store-locator/md/***. however, I believe this link points to a specific store that claims no liability due to the franchise issue. I'm sorry, I but I don't have any *** page links, or any other social media links. I'm not on any social media. The 800 number that I contacted is . I'd provide more information if I could find it. This appears to be a very unorganized company and there's not a whole lot of transparency for escalating issues beyond the store level.
