Once the shirt was sent to the office after the initial redo I took it to our laundry facility to speak with our plant manager ***I do this on any occurrence when a shirt becomes discolored in any particular area to see if the damage was logged in our damage control bookPresenting the shirt
to *** also allows for her to recall if there was an issue or if something in our process had caused damage to an itemShe has been with us for over years and is the first to tell me if anything went wrong while in our careAfter examining *** *** shirt it was clear that something did come in contact with the shirt to cause discolorationMany products we use in our daily lives can react differently to the dyes used in a cotton or cotton blend shirtThese substances are alkaline or acidic and if a heavy enough concentration is in the item when dropped off it can result in discoloration surfacing after the process is completeThis type of damage is unfortunately not visible prior to the item being cleanedThe damage usually noticeable with an orangish hue, but can be a variation of different colors depending on the fabric colorExamples of these products (artificial or natural) are cologne, hairspray, body wash, perspiration, lotion, household cleaning products, etcDue to the fact we are a high volume commercial laundry facility we take extreme precaution to keep any chemicals or solutions that are aggressive enough to remove color out of our plant I did not feel as if I was placing blame on *** *** and apologize if it came of that wayWhen these types of reactions happen in our business they will always occur if something is in the material that reacts to our cleaning process and/or the heat of the pressing unitsWe know as a business this consumer contact is accidental*** *** shirts would have been washed together in a full immersion process in the same load as his other shirtsWhen we see one shirt with damage in a concentrated area it can be attributed to something being in the material causing a reactionIf it was our was process that caused the damage then the other "x" number of shirts in the load would be damaged as well...not just the oneUnfortunately this damage is fairly common in commercial laundry and is always a difficult subject because it doesn't surface until after the cleaningI understand that *** *** and I did not see eye to eye on regarding this shirtThe $credit was not offered because I felt that any part of our process caused the damage, but rather in good faith because I know it is simply an unfortunate outcomeWe cannot be responsible for the replacement cost of a shirt when damage occurs in this fashionI have attached an article published by the Dry Cleaning and Laundry Institute on regarding alkaline color changeIt is published by an accredited company that is the industry leader for textile cleaning and is used by dry cleaners and clothing manufacturers Thank you, *** ** Rick's Cleaners

Some could have spilled something on the steam press.coke, other soft drink and then pressed this shirt resulting in the staining on the front and lower back. This is not the first shirt that I've had damaged at this Plant One other was burnedThis is just the first time I reported it. The Point is, they don't take responsibility for their mistakes

We do not carry bleach or similar products at our laundry facility due to the possibility that if it came in contact with an item this exact situation would happenIt is too high of risk to order products that would remove the color in that fashion and have them present in our facility that processes 2000+ laundered shirts per dayI am certain of this because I place the orders for all of our cleaning agentsWhen there is a specific shirt affected out of an entire batch it usually can be attributed to alkaline color change which only occurs after the cleaning / heat of the process.I am sorry again for the outcome of this situation and understand *** *** frustration.Thank you,*** **Rick's Cleaners

I am rejecting this response because:I have read the letter from Rick's Cleaners and totally disagree with the logic. The dress shirt had been cleaned at Rick's at least 15 times with the same cologne and perspiration each time. The stains were like splashes of bleach on the upper front and even on the lower back area ( no sweat or cologne on the lower back area). It may have even been dropped into something on a floor in the Plant or Store. Then it was cleaned with the stains quite noticeable and then hidden between two other shirts when I came to pick up my dry cleaning. I am sure this is not the first time they try to pass the blame to the customer. This is really a bad practice. [redacted]
