Baylor Scott & White Clinic - Pflugerville Central

On December 4th, I went to my doctor at Baylor Scott & White. I was going for a thyroid checkup, however, I had a plantar wart on my thumb. I asked my doctor if this was something that could be treated at the office or if I needed a referral (so it would not cost me more without a referral) to a dermatologist. She said that it could be treated at the clinic. She brought liquid nitrogen to freeze it & was done within a few minutes. A few weeks later I got 2 bills. One for the actual procedure and materials, which after insurance payments & adjustments was ~$122. Then I got another bill for a "specialty room", which after insurance payments & adjustments was $301. I called the billing department to dispute it and they asked me if I had been moved to a "specialty/surgical room", which I answered no. Then they say that this charge is always applied at this clinic regardless. I explained that I had never had this fee when I've been for a regular office visit. They were supposed to send me proof (statements) that they "always" charge this but I never received it. Then they proceeded to tell me that my insurance didn't pay for it because it was "aesthetic". I called my insurance to explain that it was very painful and I had pictures to show how bad it was. My insurance said they did not pay because it was coded wrong. I called back to billing and they said they would submit to doctor so she can review since doctors are the ones who code. After a few weeks of not hearing back, I made an appointment with my doctor.She said she never got the review and that if she did, she would code it correctly because she remembered me asking if this was something that could be done at the clinic at no extra cost.I then called billing again and they said that it had been reviewed and denied, not by the doctor herself, but by the billing team. My doctor was not even asked and if I had not called again, they would had just waited to send me to collections, which represents very unethical business practices.
