The Emergency Room (ER) is for the treatment of emergencies which are defined as an acute onset of a condition which if left untreated could result in harm to life or limbThis patient was under the care of a Primary Care Physician (PCP) who had prescribed a pain medication and antibiotic for this
conditionThe patient admitted that he had only taken one pain medication about hours prior (approximately 03:00) to coming to the ER (at 04:45)The pain medication was the highest level of such medication for this condition but needs time to take effectThe patient was given the mandated Medical Screening Exam (MSE) form which he refused to complete or sign before leaving the ERThe nurse contacted the ER provider at 05:00, not the patients PCPThe patient has not, to date, contacted any management personnel at the hospital to discuss his issues with the ER visit
