Description of Complaint:
I requested my account to be put on hold due to the fact that my son was hit by a car walking home from School. I had to be out of work on leave to take care of my son as he had to have a surgery on his knee and hip. I was in North Carolina for 7 1/2 weeks with my family to help my son rehabilitate. I went to the bayonne location of Beach Bum Tanning where I have my account for over 2 years. The very unprofessional and inconsiderate manager was called by the worker who was on site when I arrived. I explained that I spoke to the girl over the phone who heard my situation and assured that my account would be put on hold until September. The manager on the phone with the associate who was trying to help me, was irrational and disrespectful stating I had to pay the $140 balance in order for me to tan. Without any research or consideration of my situation she was rudely speaking over me and the associate stating they NEVER freeze an account without filling out paperwork. I never filled out paperwork and I had my account put on hold on in the past for another reason and it was done correctly and I NEVER filled out a form. The manager who represents this Tanning location is young, rude, and unprofessional. She is a very poor representation of Beach Bum Tanning as she is not personable nor accommodating in any way shape or form. She disrespectfully close off listening to the situation in entirety, repeatedly saying the balance of $140.00 must be paid in order to tan as if I was an incompetent individual. I have no problem paying my account with my new bank account information being my bag was stolen as well within the same week my child was hit by a car, but I refuse to pay for services I never received as I requested them to be on hold while I was out of the state dealing with my sons medical emergency.

I am seeking resolution by having my account updated accordingly so that I can continue my monthly membership of services as well as receive respect and an apology for the rude unprofessional behavior I unfortunately had to experience by the manager of the bayonne location.

Review: ON MARCH **, 2014 I PURCHASED A TANNING PACKAGE FOR $ 242.00 ON MY CREDIT CARD. EVEN THOUGH I HAD SEVERAL SESSIONS LEFT FROM MY LAST PACKAGE THE OWNER SAID I SHOULD PURCHASE A NEW PACKAGE ON SALE. SHORTLY AFTER THEY CLOSED THE BUSINESS WITHOUT NOTICE. THE SIGN ON DOOR SAYS CLOSED FOR RENOVATION WILL OPEN SHORTLY, BUT NO ONE IS EVER THERE WORKING AND NO ANSWER OR RECORDING ON THEIR TELEPHONE.Desired Settlement: WOULD LIKE A FULL REFUND. I THINK THEY DID THIS TO MANY CUSTOMERS AS A SCAM TO GET MONEY AND CLOSE

Review: I purchased a tanning package and 2 weeks later the business closed down for renovations without warning. The [redacted] operates independently but he uses beach bums cooperate name. It turned out that the [redacted]s landlord shut the store down and it was the health dept that came in to order renovations but the store will not reopen. Meanwhile myself and over a 100 other people have not been given refunds for our tanning packages, the [redacted] fled taking all our money and never found. Many of us have called the cooperate office of beach bum, we all spoke to the head director [redacted] who told us that even though the [redacted] was operating under beach bums cooperate name he independently owned the store and all they could do is send us to another location. Unfortunately the locations were 5 to 7 miles away from us. Many of us have small kids and some no transportation to get there. We demanded our money back and told cooperate beach bum that it's not up to over 100 people to sue this [redacted] for our refunds. We told [redacted] cooperate should refund us because it was there name this [redacted] used to run his business and cooperate should sue him for the money back . The cooperate office refused to refund any of us. The town this business is located in is a town out of hurricane sandy. This [redacted] has robbed the residents here and we are victims of hurricane sandy. Cooperate won't refund us, the [redacted] can't be found, the store is not reopening , even after the repairs are made due the health depts order, the [redacted] can't reopen, he owes thousands in back rent to the landlord. So where does this leave over a hundred people who paid hundreds of dollars for tanning packages? The only next step that can be taken is to go to the local news, [redacted] shame on you and hope beach bum cooperate head quarters will do the right thing and refund the money.Desired Settlement: A full refund of the package that I never used, due to store closing and [redacted] taking off with all the money

Review: I have left several voicemails and emails for Beach Bum Corporate. I have bought multiple Mystic tans from this Beach Bum location. The last few have been streaky...I asked the employee what to do and she told me to buy an additional "booster". I spent the money and still came out streaky. My girlfriend went in directly after me and the machine literally fell in on her. We have both tried to complain to corporate and the actual store, to no avail. These tans are expensive and customer service at Beach Bum is awful.Desired Settlement: I would like the last few Mystic tans credited to my account. I will no longer go to the ** location, but will use at a different one.

Review: The fitness wrap product is misleading to put it mildly I, still have a package with 5 sessions that I will not use use. this wrap is suppose to make you lose weight. I didnt lose a ounce and I had muscle aches after. I went out of my way to a different borough because the advertisement was convincing and I trusted it. I have been a long time customer at a different beach bum tanning and never had a problem, so I expect to have such a disappointing outcome at Beachbum tanning. the refund/package price vary depending on who I speak to that day.Desired Settlement: I would like my card credited never went back. I have no intentions on going back. as a long term customer of beach bum tanning I felt I went out of my way to patronize the name and due to good past experience. And this was a slap in the fac to a lyal customer, they should honor me/customer especially based on I am a long term customer.

Review: I went to purchase a tracking package at this location, I got taked into purchasing 3 months and spending $375 without getting any notice that the store was going to close for "renovations" to weeks later. I wow Beach Bum corporate office and received no reply back, when I called them they said there is nothing they can do since this was a privately owed company but they will contact the [redacted] and get back to me with information. I left all my contact info and it has been over a month and I haven't heard from anyone. I tried calling the [redacted] location but no answer ans when I go to the store there is never anyone there, not even a construction worker so I don't know how they are renovating when no one is ever there fixing the place.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of my money since I paid for 3 months and I was only able to tan for 2weeks before the place closed.

Review: I have been spray tanning at Beach Bum Tanning in Forest Hills for the last year or so. Recently, I noticed that it was causing streaking and the tan was coming off very uneven. I emailed customer service, with no reply. The next time I went, the employee @ Beach Bum told me that buying a "booster" for the spray machine would help even it out, which I did. I was still streaked. My friend went into the same machine, directly after me, and it fell on her. I have called Corporate twice and emailed twice, with no response.Desired Settlement: I would like the last three Mystic tans I had to be added back on to my account. I knew something was wrong with the machine and received no reply and was instructed to spend more money on a booster to fix the problem.

Review: They claim to be open 24 hours 7 days a week. I had a scheduled appointment at 6:45 am on July [redacted] and no one was there. There was no sign indicating later opening and their answering machine indicating nothing as well. I have called and left a message, still no one is there.

Review: I asked Beach Bum to suspend my tanning contract to a 'freeze' status changing the monthly charge from $75.90 to $5.00. I asked them in person the middle of August 2013. On August 30, 2013, they charged my credit card $75.90. I was away on active duty (I'm a member of the Air National Guard) during September and was able to stop in to their establishment on my return on September 22, 2013 and ask them to reimburse my September charge and to be sure that October only charged me $5.00. The employee told me he would have the manager, [redacted], call me. This is Wednesday, September 25th and I still have not heard from her. I have asked [redacted], my credit card holder, to dispute the charge for September but wanted to file a compliant against them for failing to honor a customer's request along with extremely poor customer service.Desired Settlement: I want the charge of $75.90 refunded and if they charge again for October, I want that charge of $75.90 refunded.
