Review: The person who we were conducting business with was representing herself as [redacted]. Since this incident started we have discovered that her last name is [redacted] and I will be referring to her as [redacted] in the following account.In September 2013 we reserved [redacted]'s condo at [redacted] CA. We found her listing on www.sandiegobeachvacationrental.com. The reservation was for 1/18/14 to 1/25/14. Two payments were made in September totaling $1750.00, $500 of which was for security deposit. Both payments were made by cashier's checks. Per the rental agreement we were to receive the entry code for the gate to the condo complex 10 days prior to arrival. By 1/13/14 we had not received the code. My wife emailed her requesting the code on 1/13/14. My wife received an email from [redacted] 1/14/14 telling her that it was urgent that we call her. I first tried to call her at 12 p.m on 1/14/14. I left a voicemail. I called again at 1:30. [redacted] answered the phone and said that she was in a meeting and would get back to me. Before she hung up I asked what was going on and she said that the unit above her condo had had a sewer problem and that sewage had leaked into her unit. [redacted] did not call back prompting me to call several more times. As our trip was in four days we needed to know as soon as possible in order to secure other lodging if necessary. [redacted] finally called me at 5:30 and told me that we could not stay at the condo and requested a signed copy of our rental confirmation for submission to her insurance company. I asked about the return of our money and [redacted] said that she had to wait for the insurance settlement. My wifeI sent [redacted] the signed copy of the confirmation by email the evening of 1/14/14. On 1/15/14 after we secured another rental with someone else, my wife emailed [redacted] asking the status of the return of our money. [redacted] responded on 1/16/14 saying that she was working with insurance and she would be in touch with my wife tomorrow, 1/17/14. We received no further communication from her. On 1/25/14 my wife emailed [redacted] a reminder that we had not heard from her. She did not respond. On 1/26/14 I left her a voicemail requesting an update. [redacted] then responded to my wifes email from 1/25/14. [redacted] again said that she was working with insurance and would be in touch tomorrow, 1/27/14. We have had no contact from [redacted] since that day, 1/26/14.Desired Settlement: We would like our deposit and weeks rent refunded, a total of $1750.00
