I purchased a Texas Sage Plant two weeks ago at this nursery. I brought it home and set it next to another plant just like it purchased at another nursery. I watered them every day, especially in this heat. The one I purchased at the Beaumont Garden Center, Inc., did not thrive from day one. The other sage, purchased at a different nursery did very well. I only mention all this to give you a background on these two identical plants purchased at two different nurseries; the second one I had only two weeks, the other from another nursery two months. I stopped by the nursery and was told to call the Owner in the morning which I did, although, I found she was the manager not the owner. I might mention there is a 30 warranty. I called and spoke with her and she said to bring it in and I could exchange it so I did this. As soon as I got the plant there, she came out of the shop practically yelling at me - went over to the plant & broke off the top and said "I killed it" by not watering it everyday. This was totally false and I tried to explain how I did but she was yelling and telling me she is sick of people like me stealing her money by bringing plants back that they kill. I have never been spoken to so horribly by any person who deals with the public in my entire life. I almost thought she'd attack me she was so crazy...even her other sales person was looking at her embarrassed as could be.
I am the owner of Retail Garden Center. *** is the manager and her narrative follows and *** complaint had brought the issue to my attention. Ms. was never able to produce a receipt and we had no idea when she bought the plant. In the photo you will see that watering has resulted in the plant coming back with green leaves. In July & August these plants must be watered daily since temps reach 100-115 degrees. I am sorry if she did not understand how careful you must be in the summer, especially when the plant is still in a small pot.
I am rejecting this response because:I would like the owner to receive this message. First, I did not get a receipt and I brought the plant back within a week of purchase. I purchased one at another nursery in the area, kept them side by side and the other one is beautiful, so in my opinion it was not a healthy plant to begin with. But that is not the concern to me; the price of the plant is not the complaint. It is the way I was treated. The Manager, ***, should not work with the public. I have never in my life been treated in the way she spoke to me. In fact, I got very few words in and I "never raised my voice". She came out of the building absolutely yelling that "I killed the plant" like a crazy person...even the sales associate was embarrassed. Maybe she had a bad day and maybe other people have returned plants for similar reasons, but in no way does that excuse her actions. I worked with the public all my life and I would "never" treat anyone like that. When dealing with "customers", you need to have some manners, which she did not. The price of the plant was only $19.99 and is not the issue to me but rather the nasty and insulting way in which I was treated. Those kinds of actions will lose you a lot of customers; I live in a nearby community and have a lot of friends who, after hearing of my experience, will not patronize it. It's too bad that the customer is not valued at this business.
