To whom it may concern; This complaint as noted above is almost not worth the time to respond You state that this complaint will be made public on the Revdex.com website with our company nameHowever it would seem that in all fairness that the public should also know exactly who the individual is that made the complaint so that other future contractors together with the viewing public also are made awarePerhaps the Revdex.com does not want fairness but rather only bias and unsubstantiated complaints The homeowner asked for a quote on removing the large trees and shrubs completely blocking the entire front of his house and all windows and was quoted as he stated a cost to remove them of “approximately” $And as he correctly stated I did not specifically mention that this cost did not include the use of the Bobcat or fuel The cost of the Bobcat and fuel was included in this estimate of again “approximately” $He was also told at the time that we were already backlogged on work and it could take 4-weeks before we could perform the work at his house After agreeing on the price of approximately $to again remove the trees and shrubs in his front landscape we walked around the east side of the his house to the area where a second story deck was built across the entire backHe wanted to know if we could also replace this deck as it was collapsing onto his in ground pool belowI told him no as we did not have time due to our backlog and for this he would need to find someone else to perform such a taskHe stated that he could not find anyone who would come and give him an estimate or even return his calls As we were viewing this area he remarked about the huge number of 8-10’ tall by 4-5’wide grasses that were planted on the adjacent steep slope and blocking this side (east side) of the deck and pool areaHe also stated that he could not believe the previous home owner had planted so many of these huge grasses in this area and he did not know how he was ever going to get them outAt that time I told him that if he wanted we could also take those out for him while we had the Bobcat there for the front yardTo this he agreed and never asked for a cost of this additional work He stated that he was made to wait several months for the work to be performedThis is partially trueHe was given a quote in late April and told it would be at least weeks before we could get there depending on the weather due to our back log at that timeThe work was performed on June 16th so I guess months could be construed by someone to be “several months” This homeowner also called a couple of weeks prior to our performing the work stating that he realized we have had an unusual amount of rain and that he was in no rush but was wanting to know if we had any idea of when we would get to his jobI reiterated that the amount of rain had thrown us behind and that his yard really needed to dry out or using the Bobcat in his yard would make an absolute mess of his lawn and we did not want to do thatHe said he understood and appreciated that fact We performed the work at this individual’s home as quoted on June 16, However, not only did we remove the overgrown trees and shrubs blocking his house and windows as estimated but we also cleaned out ALL of the other weeds and debris that had built up over years of neglect in his landscape beds to help make it even more pleasing to him While clearing out the huge overgrown grasses on the east side of the rear deck by the pool that he and I had discussed previously he mentioned to our crew foreman that he also wanted us to remove the similar grasses and a small tree on the other (west) side of the poolThis is an area that was not discussed with the homeowner previouslyThinking that I had just forgotten to mention this to them the crew proceeded to also remove those grasses plus a small tree When the Homeowner, whose name cannot be used here even though he can use mine, was sent an invoice for the work performed it was itemized so that he could see exactly where his money was spent and the Bobcat and fuel were listed separately instead of just sending him a lump sum bill for services performedAgain, the “approximate” estimate for the front was $and but it actually came up to which I would think, and years of experience with customers has proven correctly, is approximately $The homeowner was billed a total cost as he states of $This leaves a balance of $for removing not only the huge number of overgrown grasses ( 7- ) on the east side of his house as discussed but also for removing those on the west side of his house ( another 6-) that were never discussedIf you have never tried to remove a fully mature ornamental grass of this type I can assure you it is no easy task and several of these had to be dug by hand due to the slope and location next to a retaining wallThe amount of work performed on these two areas at a cost of $is more than fairI guess someone could look at this as a 50% increase over the estimate and easily forget about the additional work performed The homeowner states that his check was not late and that he was called by a representative of this company demanding to know when the check was mailedActually the invoice was sent on June 18, and as he states in his complaint he did not talk to us until June 25th at which time I told him if he was so upset then just deduct the cost of the Bobcat from the invoice To this he agreedHowever, his check with more than just the Bobcat deduction as agreed on the phone was not received until July 20th, I guess days after the work was performed and days after this conversation is what he means by “it was not late” as he states in his complaintAnd yes he was called times over the course of the days trying to find out where his payment was and why it was lateNo down payment was ever asked of him prior to performing the workHowever, payment is due immediately upon completion He also states that weeks after removal of the plants that they were coming backSince these overgrown trees and shrubs were actually dug out root ball and all this part of the complaint doesn’t even warrant a responseBut in fairness to him and with the amount of rain and hot weather we have had I do believe he may now have actual weeds growing in his beds Since the homeowner was allowed to state “Beware when using them for contract services they will not stick to their quote and the work performed is questionable” I would like to state in rebuttal: Beware when dealing with this homeownerGet every detail in writing, perform absolutely no extra work unless it is in writing and signed by this homeowner, get a down payment and above all else get the final check for all services performed before you leave the site! Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below
Lesson learnedGet quotes in writing with this contractor!!! When we were obtaining quotes we asked for flower bed emptying of both the front and back of the house in order to compare estimates(we never divided by sides)When a quote was obtained the area was walked both front and back (both sides as he stated) and at no time was it stated this was the quote for simply the front of the house as he even commented "it shouldn't be that hard to remove them since the bobcat was already here". It is not my fault he incorrectly quoted and didn't take into the account the steepness of the grade or the retaining wall that his crew had to rebuild because they knocked it down or that months of spring growth would be more difficult to remove. Had we known his estimate was drastically under quoted and didn't include the rear of the house we would never have agreed to his estimate because we had better quotes. I also did not speak to the foreman's requesting more work outside of ***'s presence (as he has stated in his reply). I spoke to the foreman once when I instructed them where to dump the plants removed. At the time of the quote I did ask for an estimate to remove and replace the deck. *** took measurements and called later stating that it would cost around $8000.00-which we declined and approved the flower bed and back cleaning. Thank god we declined otherwise we would be looking at a bill for 12000.00-since underestimating a bill by percent is an acceptable practice for him.We received the itemized bill several days after completion which was itemized differently from the pricing he provided above in his reply. As stated in his comment the front and larger side (including bobcat and fuel) came to $which yes this is close to and I would have been happy to pay a bill close to the estimate. However his breakdown of the itemized bill is as such $for the front, $for bobcat, $for fuel which totals $not and then added $for the back which now he claims is the smaller side of work performed (See attached bill). This makes no sense when evaluation number of plants removed and time spent. We did receive the inflated bill promptly and I did contact him to discuss it. I was told to remove the extraneous charges that were by his own statement should have been included in the lump sum so I deducted the 188.00- he is now upset over dollars for fuel when we paid $which is still well above his inaccurate estimate. The $was the reason both him and his employee became belligerent with me on the phone. Also the bill we received did not have a due date and no statement was given or spo*** that payment was due day of work completion and per his statement he didn't have a bill to give usInitially I had wanted to pay a with credit card, but after the shock of the bill and discussing the bill with him I didn't trust that my card would be ran for the appropriate amount and opted to write a check for his services. The check was sent/received within days of the services he provided both a legitimate time frame considering the billed/estimate discrepancy and no longer feeling comfortable paying over the phone. As for the claim that all shrubs and plants where removed by hand at level of the bulb this is untrueSeveral shrubs were removed at ground level with the bobcat and the bulbs were left and have started to regrow (please see photo). It is clear due to the unprofessionalism of this contractor, the lack of record keeping, lack of accurate bill and quoting and general unethical behavior with his half truths this complaint will not be resolved. So my purpose is to warn others to obtain written and accurate estimates before allowing this man/company to perform work on your property!! I have contracted other individuals in the past for work and a written estimate was provided and I was notified anytime the estimate had to be updated. I was fine to pay these contractors and I have never had a problem with any othersI am not sorry for expecting a contractor to stick to their estimate or come in remotely close to it

He stated that he was made to wait several months for the work to be performed. This is partially true. He was given a quote in late April 2015 and told it would be at least 4 weeks before we could get there depending on the weather due to our back log at that time. The work was performed on June 16th 2015 so I guess 2 months could be construed by someone to be “several months”.  This homeowner also called a couple of weeks prior to our performing the work stating that he realized we have had an unusual amount of rain and that he was in no rush but was wanting to know if we had any idea of when we would get to his job. We performed the work at this individual’s home as quoted on June 16, 2015. However, not only did we remove the overgrown trees and shrubs blocking his house and windows as estimated but we also cleaned out ALL of the other weeds and debris that had built up over years of neglect in his landscape beds to help make it even more pleasing to him.                                      ... /> While clearing out the huge overgrown grasses on the east side of the rear deck by the pool that he and I had discussed previously he mentioned to our crew foreman that he also wanted us to remove the similar grasses and a small tree on the other (west) side of the pool. Again, the “approximate” estimate for the front was $1000.00 and but it actually came up to 1097.00 which I would think, and 30 years of experience with customers has proven correctly, is approximately $1000.00. The homeowner was billed a total cost as he states of $1568.00. This leaves a balance of $471.00 for removing not only the huge number of overgrown grasses ( 7- 8 ) on the east side of his house as discussed but also for removing those on the west side of his house ( another 6-7 ) that were never discussed. If you have never tried to remove a fully mature ornamental grass of this type I can assure you it is no easy task and several of these had to be dug by hand due to the slope and location next to a retaining wall. However, his check with more than just the Bobcat deduction as agreed on the phone was not received until July 20th, 2015. I guess 34 days after the work was performed and 20 days after this conversation is what he means by “it was not late” as he states in his complaint. And yes he was called 3 times over the course of the 34 days trying to find out where his payment was and why it was late. No down payment was ever asked of him prior to performing the work. However, payment is due immediately upon completion.
He also states that 3 weeks after removal of the plants that they were coming back.
