Review: I informed Mr. [redacted], owner of [redacted]'s Roofing, during our initial discussion of the roof, that I wanted 30 lb. felt under the GAF shingles. He assured me this weight felt would be used. I noticed after I was given the original of the signed contract that he had omitted designating the weight of the felt. He then added "30 lbs" in his handwriting on the contract. He also added "Lifetime warranty on labor." Neither of these items was honored.I questioned the weight of the felt being used on the roof, and Mr. [redacted]'s employee, [redacted], who had bought the felt at Home Depot, assured me it was 30 lb. felt. I then took a sample of the felt to Home Depot and was informed it was 15 lb. I was shown the difference between the two weights. One weight could not possibly be mistaken for the other. After questioning Mr. [redacted] about this, he stated that GAF had told him the 15 lb. weight would be best. (Why didn't I have any part in this decision not to use the weight of felt that was agreed upon and he wrote in the contract?) My son phoned GAF and was informed that GAF does not recommend which weight felt to use under their shingles because they sell their own product.After the wrong weight felt was confirmed, Mr. [redacted] stated he would "make it up" to me by giving me a good price on new windows. He told me to get two estimates and he would give me a better price. This could in no way alter what had already been done or excuse the multiple misrepresentations and cover-ups.Using the wrong felt was only the first undisclosed event. A hole was punched through a roof board and covered over with felt and shingles, but the baseball-size hole was quite visible from inside the attic. Part of the board around the hole on the underneath side also broke off, compromising the safety of this board. Also, caulking was put round a roof vent that had leaked after the roof was installed, but it still leaked. Mr. [redacted] said would fix both the broken board and the leak, but did not do so.Desired Settlement: I originally did not want [redacted] to fix his own cover-ups, but when Mr. [redacted] said he could have had the repairs fixed had he not needed to get someone else do them, it seemed having the employee do the repairs was the only solution. Agreeing to have the employee do the repairs made no difference. He never came.My son spoke with Mr. [redacted] by phone on several occasions and was told by Mr. [redacted] he would return and fix these problems. He did not return, nor did he make any arrangements to do so.
