Most everything in the...

response was a lie. As far as the ice machine, he said upon check in that they were putting in a new machine within two weeks. I found this completely acceptable. They did not have a ice machine in the front office, they would get ice out of thier refrigerator with there hands, even there son would do such. I don't know if there hands are clean. I know this to be a fact because when they open the door to there living quarters the refidgerator is right there in plain view. The reduced rate when paying cash was offered by [redacted] wife. That saved me 25 dollars and I was appreciative of the savings. I was paying with my Discover card and she made the offer for cash. She siad in one month of staying, but I convinced her to do it a week early. I did not care about the three% because I was getting reimburst from my work, so there is another lie. The complaints about the room were that the room was not cleaned properly. I would go to work and when I returned to my room there would still be crumbs and or water on the table from not being wiped down. The bedside tables and the mirror over the sink were not cleaned the entire time I was there. I told them due to the dog they did not have to make my room a priotity, but they still went in every day. I made my own bed before going to work, everyday.  They were happy about that because it was less work for them to do, and when Sunday would arrive, I would go to wash my laundry and take the dog with me so they had complete control of the room, but yet when I returned, the tables were not wiped and the mirror still had weeks of water spots dried on it. One day I was talking to [redacted] son and he told me he stayed in my room for a couple hours playing with my dog. Although I appreciated the thought of that, I did not give him permission to do so. I told him I did not want him hanging out in my room and he took offence to that. They also stated that I would come to the office for toilet papper and coffee. That never happened unless they did not leave any in my room. there maintainace man, [redacted], went in my room every day and changed out the towels and left toilet papper if I need it. I not once complained about my parking spot and I was not constantly complaining about the room. If I was unhappy I would of left and rented another room elsewhere, just as I did when he started yelling and cussing me when I ask for a reciept.[redacted] is a liar and would say what ever it took to make himeself look good and me look bad. I will never stay there again and advise anyone that is looking for a long term stay to drive on up the road to another establishment.

Greetings from the Bedford Motel.  In reference to ID [redacted] – Name of guest is [redacted]  Upon review of the guest profile, Mr. [redacted] arrived at the Bedford Motel on the 3rd week of July.  ** was given our VIP room with a King Bed.  He also had a Dog with him.  ** worked for a construction company and was given a rate of 275.00 per week inclusive of the Dog.  We gave him a good rate because he was going to be here 3 to 5 months and bring more people in.  Normally, the weekly rate for this room is 345.50 and 35.00 extra for the pet charge.  Kindly note, 275.00 per week is approx. 39 dollars per day.  This is a very good rate for a VIP room with free Wi-Fi, micro-refrig. 32” LCD TV with 220 channels of Direct TV, and coffee pot in room with unlimited coffee.Initially, ** was grateful and pleased.  In fact he was so satisfied that he brought in more people from his construction company.  ** stayed at the Bedford Motel approximately 12 weeks.  After two weeks his rent was lowered to $250 per week and then after three more weeks his rent was lowered to 220 per week, the rate was lowered because [redacted] complained of losing his hours and overtime at work and constantly bugging us about reducing his rate.  ** is frugal and complained about extremely minor things if someone took his parking space he bhed and moaned and cried.  He wanted us to go even lower on the room rate, which I can’t do.  Note, 220 per week is approx. 31 dollars a day.Mr. **, since he had a dog in the room he requested that no one would go in the room because of the dog.  Our housekeepers are not allowed to go in the room especially if the owner of the pet is not in the room.  This is for the safety of our housekeepers.  Therefore, when ** needed something we would bring it over to him when he arrived from work or He would come to the office and pick it up things like TP, coffee, etc., we went above and beyond to accommodate **.  And still we could not please him.** is correct in saying that ice machine was broken and it was very difficult to find someone to repair it since this ice machine used the old obsolete R-22 Freon which is almost impossible to get because of the EPA.  However, he was given ice whenever He wanted all He had to do was come in the front office and ask for ice which he did and always received the ice.  We had a small spare ice machine in the office because the main one was in repair.** had the nicest room the nicest rate we make sure his parking space was open so you could park right in front of his room we make sure we had ice to give him in the office but it was extremely difficult to please Mr. [redacted] and finally I told him if you’re not happy which you are you may be better elsewhere and I encourage you to go elsewhere.  ** had a good thing going here and to pay essentially $30 a day with the dog he should’ve been extremely grateful.  I am the manager and a 25% owner of this property I have three additional partners because of the pet odor my partners requested I bring his rent back up to 250 per week because we have to charge for the pet.  The guest rate essentially did not go up when it went from 220 to 250 we were simply recharging him for the $30 a week for the pet, which is quite fair because when he checks out no other the customer, wants to smell A dog.  Whenever there’s a pet in the room when the person checks out, we not only clean the room like we normally clean the room we also Have to steam the carpet, dry clean the comforters and blankets, the curtains and do extra cleaning this is the reason for the pet charge because the next customer may be allergic to pet hair so we have to make sure all dog fibers have been removed including the AC heat unit has to be thoroughly cleaned whenever there’s a pet the room.  Upon a guest checkout, it cost us approximately $195.00 not including labor to bring the room back to sanitary conditions, as per the health dept. rule that applies to pets in rooms.  Even at $250 a week he is essentially paying approximately $35 a day and that’s including a pet in a very nice room we did so much for this individual.  After 12 weeks, we honestly could no longer put up with his annoyances and constant groveling about the room rate.I have been in the hospitality business for over 20 years and our goal is to make each customer happy.  I truly regret that we could not satisfy him.  And as for the reimbursement of money on a weekly stay after five days there is no refund on a weekly stay if the customer checks out in two days then we will get a partial refund but after five days there’s no refund. Now, as for the receipts, there was a two or three week period where our checking-in software was problematic and incompatible with the new wireless printer.  I mean he stay here for three months at worst I could’ve mailed him the receipts for the two-week gap this is an example of the difficulty in dealing with [redacted]  Generally, all of the other contractors that stayed here for three months would get the receipts at the end of their stay in case they had incidental charges.I will mail all the receipts to [redacted] at the address listed.  What a small matter to consistently annoy the front office staff with . . . (Ice machine, receipts, groveling to reduce rate).  The reason [redacted] preferred to pay in cash was he did not want to pay the 3% credit card fees this is why he insisted on paying cash.Thank you,[redacted], ManagerSorry for the errors . . . using the voice to speech software.

Review: I was traveling for my work and was at this Motel for many weeks. It started somewhat ok but was told the ice machine was broken, but would be repaired or replace within two weeks. Needless to say it was never taken care of. They had a bad problem with bugs and also did a very poor job when cleaning your room. I was there approx. 10 weeks and my tables were never cleaned, the mirrior was NEVER cleaned and the owner had a bit of an attitude. I started paying cash after the third week and once I did that it was a task to get a reciept. The owner would tell me I will leave it in your room, but never did. I always had to ask again. He blew up at me on more than one occasion and yelled and cussed me and threatened to raise the cost of my room. Finally, the last time I went to pay my bill the owner blew up at me and started calling [redacted] when asking for the reciept from the prior week. He said I disrespected his family 7 times. I was always respectful and his wife even stated to me at one time that she wished all customers were as polite and paid as promptly as I did. everytime he would blow up at me he would say, "I can get 300 a week for the room you are in." I had my dog with me, they advertise pet friendly and charge additional fees for the dog, which I paid, but would yell and critizie me saying, "A Dog, I can't beleive you have a dog with you." He made me leave even though I was paid up for 2 more days. I got no refund for those two days and was told I had one hour to vacate or I would be arrested for refusing to leave. Also, I was told if I wanted my money back to take him to court. This place is a real piece of work. My personal opinion is, if he provides a receipt, then he has to claim the cash and he probably wanted to have the cash that was paid go "under the table". He has anger issues. I think I deserve my money back at two daily rates plus I had to travel home that day because I had no where to go on short notice. It cost me 80 additional dollars to make the un neccessary trip. I did reserved another room for the following week over the phone from my home. I had a weekly rate and he got busy all of a sudden and he knew he could get more money on a daily rate. I beleive he kicked me out so he could make more money.Desired Settlement: I want the money a was cheated out of plus reimbursed for my addition cost to have to travle home. That would be two day rate charges plus my 80 dollars in addition fuel to travel home.

Review: On Friday August 9th, 2013 I went to the Bedford Motel in Bedford, Virginia with the intention of renting a room at an inexpensive rate that although was at a fair price was also clean and well kept. When I called at approximately 2 o'clock in the afternoon to make reservations the male owner was very polite and said that although the rate usually ran more expensive for Friday nights he would not charge me more than the usual price of $44.95 plus tax. I asked if he needed my credit card number or any personal information to complete the reservation and he responded he did not. I found this to be rather unusual as most hotels require a credit card and at the least your full name to complete reservations. However I assumed because it was a small family owned motel that their practices were in favor of the customer and therefore they gave the customer the benefit of the doubt that they would not break the reservation. After only giving my first name and approximate time of arrival to the owner of the motel I hung up the phone and headed toward the motel. Upon arrival the motel was not busy, only a few cars were parked in front-one of which I believe to have belonged to the owner of the motel. I walked into the office and immediately noticed a foul odor, the source of which I was unsure. The male whom I spoke to on the phone who had identified himself as "Jay" came to the front desk, after he fought to get past three of four children in the hallway leading to the front desk. He was dressed in a "wife beater" tank top and his hair looked greasy, he stank and overall gave off a very unprofesional appearance. Against my better judgement I decided I would still rent the room from him solely for the fact that I did not have the financial means to stay elsewhere. He did not ask for identification or for me to fill out any paperwork, only for the money to pay for the room. He said that he preffered cash, which I did have on me so I paid for one night a grand total of $50(although the actual total after tax only came out to be $49.50). I paid for my room, recieved the key and went to the room. I entered the room and again noticed a foul odor, just an overall disgusting smell. The room was hot and there was a fly in the room. The door was rather "holey" as there were large chunks that were missing that allowed enough room for someone to look into the crack of the main door into the room itself from the outside-which immediately made me nervous and upset me highly. I sat down on the bed and heard the sound of plastic only to note that the mattress was covered in a plastic overlay, something that I had never seen at any hotel or motel prior to this visit at the Bedford Motel. After sitting down and trying to find something decent about the room I went into the bathroom to wash my hands and freshen up and noticed something very small and brownish/green colored moving on the towel that lay draped across the sink. After closer inspection and approximately 5 minutes worth of watching the unidentified "thing" that lay on what was supposed to be my "clean" towel, I had observed it move multiple times. I immediately was disgusted to the point of no return and grabbed my things and darted to my vehicle. I went to the office of the motel and a female came to the window this time, smelling even more disgusting than what turned out to be her husband. She was not friendly at all from the moment I walked in the door, and had a grimace on her face that indicated I was not wanted there by any means. I stated my issue to her in regards to the room and told her that irregardless of her findings (she was deadset on going to the room and proving me wrong) I would be checking out and would like a refund for my $50 as they had not upheld their end of the contract in providing me a clean and sanitary room. She went to the room with me and exclaimed I must show her proof that her room was nasty, all the while being incredibly rude and mumbling under her breath in I assume her native language. I showed her my immediate concern of the moving "bug like creature" on the towel and without even looking at it she picks it up and flicks it off the towel claiming it is only dirt. I told her I had sat there and watched it for a good 5 minutes and that it had moved and that I was quite sure dirt did not move for any reason on its own free will. She then proceeds to yell at me claiming I better show her where there is a problem with her room, so I continue to pull the rest of the towels from the bathroom "shelf" that sat above the toilet and pointed out more dirt and overall filth to her and she claimed I was a liar. Irregardless if the initial concern I pointed out to her was simply "dirt" as she put it, this is still something that arises serious concern. These are supposed to be clean bath towels for my use, so why is there dirt on them? She then proceeded to tell me I would not receive my money back because I was a liar and that there was nothing wrong with her room. I told her I would gladly sit in my vehicle then and contact the Revdex.com and the Health Board to report the motel for poor sanitary conditions and overall practices. She yelled for me to go ahead to call whomever I wanted she did not care I was just a liar. So as I sat in my vehicle in her parking lot, at the time contacting my boyfriend from out of town to let him know plans had changed and then to contact the Revdex.com she walks out the office door with a pencil and a notepad and continues to take down my license plate number and vehicle description. I opened my door and asked her what she thought she was doing and she continued by yelling at me and telling me she was going to sue me for threatening to call the Health Board on her. I looked at her very confused and said that I had threatened nothing illegal and had threathened nothing any customer could not walk up to her motel and note the many Health issues and call them. She continue saying she was suing me for being a liar and calling the Revdex.com. Beyond this, she continued then to tell me if I did not get off her property she would call the sheriff's department on me for trespassing and being a nuisance. At the time I was still considered a paying customer, as she kept my $50. She continued threatening me with the same things as I have mentioned above and finally told me to " [redacted] off" and then proceeded to walk back into the office. As I sat on the phone trying to get a hold of the Revdex.com she came to the glass front door and waved the phone at me and motioned as if though she was going to call for the sheriff's office. I proceeded to move to the parking lot of the restaraunt next door to the motel and decided that because of her threats I needed to contact the sheriff's office to ensure that the incident was documented by the law for purposes solely so that she could not say I had done any damage to her property or threatened or harmed her or her family in any way. A Bedford County Sheriff's Deputy was dispatched to my location, I explained to him my situation and said that I only wished to get the last $50 to my name back and I would gladly leave and never return to the Bedford Motel. He then went to speak with the female owner and she told him that she would not return my money, that I was a liar, etc. etc. She also apparently had audio recordings of where she had evidence that she had offered me a different room. This was NOT the case. I was never offered an alternative room or any different arrangements. I was simply given an attitude and poor service. The deputy then told me all I could do was go to the courthouse and file a civil suit in small claims court because the woman refused to return my $50 although she had broken her end of the contract by not providing a room that was considered clean and sanitary. I then left the restraunt parking lot, penniless and disgusted by the "customer service" I had received from the "family owned" motel.Desired Settlement: I wish only to have my $50 refunded, as I am currently on a very tight budget and do not have the ability to allow $50 just fly out the window because the owner wanted to cop an attitude when I called her on the unsanitary conditions of her rooms. I do not have the means to go to court and file a civil suit because that requires an attorney and additional monetary involvement that again I do not have the ability to spend at this time.

Response:

My name is Jay Parikh and my wife name is Jodi Parikh. We purchased the Bedford Motel on June 2007 and since then We have put Our life savings into the property. In approx, six years we have tripled the Business and have physically remolded each and every room. Every dollar we have earned we have put al least 50 cents back into the property. It brings tears in my eyes after reading the complaint written by Ms. [redacted]. She has dis-respected my property, my wife, and I. Anyone who reads a 3- page letter can clearly see the lies written about my family and me. ** has absolutely nothing to lose by speaking badly about my Biz & Family Ms. [redacted] does not mention that she happily stayed here from July 11, 2013 To July 18, 2013. As per her folio, she paid for 2 days in 109, and then she paid for another 2 days in 109. Then she paid daily for 3 days paying 49.50 per day. 2+2+1+1+1=7 days straight. In fact, she had shared how convenient our motel was because her boyfriend came from the Roanoke side and she came from the Lynchburg side. During those 7 days ** mentioned several time how Nice and clean and quiet and inexpensive our motel is ... In fact, during the 7-day stay, I showed her the trailer we had in the back. and during all this ** has very nice things to say about our property. ** didn't qualify for the trailer because of bad credit and a negative rental history. She lives from motel to motel. After the 7- day stay ** and her BF checkout on the morning of July 19 from room 109 (Kindly refer to the signed folio), The next time I heard from her was on Aug 8, when she called to inquire about our vacancy and availability. I told her that we will hold a smoking room with a king Size bed for **, ** is a heavy smoker and prefers a smoking room with a king bed; but 109 was taken but we had 107 which is pretty much a mirror image of 109. In the complaint she mentions 109, but the room she took on 8/9/2013 was 107. ** fails to mention that day that her BF was unable to meet her and that is why she, ** started to call the office saying that there were bed bugs on the hand towel and she wanted her money back, now as motel owner we Attend workshops so my wife and I are pretty much experts when it comes to bedbugs. Bedbugs generally reside on the seams of mattresses and come out only at night feeding on human dead skin cells and night time is when they are mostly active. The black mark on the hand towel was a manufacturing ink stain. Our linen comes straight from VA linen company located on orange st. in Bedford City. It was quite obvious that ** was trying to get Money back because her boyfriend was not going to show up. My wife checked the entire room and found nothing dirty or stained. My wife told ** that after almost 40 min in the room, having showered and using the bed, drinking the complimentary coffee that there is no way we can refund her. In spite of using the room fully, my wife offered her another room as a courtesy, but ** insisted on getting her money back. My wife asked ** what the real reason is and even offered her a 20 % off next time she comes because her plan with the BF didn't work out, and just wanted her 49.50 back. It is ** that became extremely loud and verbally abusive toward my wife. Yelling racial slurs and saying that she would go to the Revdex.com and Health Dept And destroy our reputation if she didn't get her money back. We tried to appease her, offer another room with a free upgrade; we gave ** a 20 % coupon for next time. It is ** that called the Law and threatens my wife. We do the best we can as motel innkeepers. My wife and I don't have outside jobs. Our livelihood is the motel. After years of hard work, the last thing we want to do is lose a guest. We did whatever we could to help **. However, giving the money back is out of the question; especially when someone not only uses the room, but also abuses the room. Once a person lies down on the bed, all linen, pillow case cover has to change ... Once someone uses the shower, we have to re-sanitize the bathroom ... once someone drinks the complimentary coffee, we have to refill the coffee packets, clean the coffee pot, and put back the sugar, stirrer, and creamer. Giving money back is out of the question. What is so sad is ** calls me a greasy, smelly Wife beater: she dis-respects my family, and speaks lies about my biz. ** has absolutely nothing to lose by saying lies and half-truths about my livelihood. ** never once mentions that she happily stayed here in July for a week spending $ 350.00 all paid in cash. And spoke nicely about our motel. In fact, my clerk actually recalls ** one AM when ** paying 50 bucks and tell the clerk to keep the 50 cents because the room rate is$ 49.50. Then on 8/9/2013 she says that my motel Smells, the room smells, my wife and I smell and still gets a room. Does that make sense? ** fails to mention that she stayed 7 consective days a week before. The room number is incorrect. She doesn't say that she had a fight with her BF. She refuses to tell that she doesn't have a license or didn't bring her license. ** won't say that as a result of a poor credit history she owns no CC. I know this because she shared all this with me when she stayed 7 days in July and I showed her the trailer. And inquired about her credit history. We always ask for a DL. but we don't refuse a guest if their DL is revoked or not in possession, She drove a red Chevy truck with Lic plate # [redacted] on 8/9/2013. Which was the case with **. We believe most people to be honest and respectable. We always ask for a credit card, but in ** 's case she claimed she didn't have any and since she was here before we gave her the benefit of the doubt. In 7 years the Bedford Motel never had a complaint. We received multiple rewards. Do a Google search and look at our ratings, Go ask the VA welcome center next to the D-day memorial How our rooms look. Our avg. occupancy is over 87%. That is because we have nice rooms reasonable rate for our customers: Over 65% of our guests are repeat Just like ** who is also a repeat customer. We treat guests like family members. Log Book entry: 8/8/2013 to 8/9/2013 8/8/2013 at 4 pm requested a smoking room with king bed 8/9/2013 at 6 pm rented room # 107 not 109 as she claims 8/9/2013 at 6:41 calls office complaining bed bugs on her hand towels 8/9/2013 at 6:45 my wife Jodi checks rm and tells ** no bed bugs 8/9/2013 at 6:47 insists rm has bad odor and wants $$$ back 8/9/2013 at 6:49 ** threatens to call Health Dept. and Revdex.com if no refund 8/9/2013 at 6:59 arguing with BF loudly In 8/9/2013 middle of parking lot 8/9/2013 at 7:05 threatens to call Law if no refund given & uses racial 8/9/2013 at 7:25 sheriff arrives and officer tell ** to leave and stop yelling and threatening. Officer tells ** her only option is civil action to get $$ back 8/9/2013 at 7:40 ** leaves property and Sherriff waits 1 or 2 minutes and then He leaves. We will pursue legal action against ** saying bad things about our motel and family. My attorney [redacted] from the law firm of [redacted] suggests that I do not send Revdex.com audio/video of ** making threats in office and pic of ** leaving 107 on 8/9/2013. Because there are other guest in the camera surveillance as well, and we need to obtain permission from all those guests in the video before we can share it with Revdex.com. We also have audio/video of ** when she stayed for that 1 week in July. We have audio of ** and BF saying how nice our motel is ... etc. In court, as my lawyer eloquently phrased, it's not what you say or know ... it's what you can prove. We have written proof of what ** said and we have audio/video contradicting each and every lie. Let the Judge decide if my hair was greasy and if I was wearing a wife-beating shirt (whatever that means). How dare ** say that to me, I've been happily married since Dec [redacted] When ** stayed that week I was the one in the office collecting the money 3 times. In the camera, you can hear ** and I talking and dearly see How satisfied she was with our room and service We give ** 5 days from the receipt of this letter for a retraction and apology for the false statements and unnecessary anxiety ** has caused.
