We hired Beechtree to install a wall, porch, sidewalk and shrubs. The wall and porch came out well, the sidewalk not so well. I'll start there. In less than a year weeds started growing between the sidewalk stones which probably means the polymeric sand they used was sub-par. I had to power wash the filler out and re-do it.
One day I came home from work to find PVC pipe that diverted downspout water away from the house (into an area Beechtree had previously installed) torn up and laying above ground. One of their Bobcats apparently tore it up. The PVC was never supposed to be part of the job. Well, instead of replacing the system as it was, Beechtree took a shortcut and diverted the downspouts onto my yard. Now when it rains water runs through the yard creating ruts. On the other side of the house a downspout was simply placed into a hole with rocks thrown over. Needless to say, that creates a ditch.
In the months following the destruction of my original PVC I started getting water in the basement, resulting from their failure to replace one of the damaged pipes. I called and Beechtree sent an arrogant, disrespectful young man to fix the problem. He insisted that the water was coming from some other place than I said and rebuked me for suggesting otherwise. It turned out I was proven right, but not until a lot of wasted time and digging. The Beechtree employee did all the work, but seemed to resent me for having the problem. The man insulted and demeaned me and my wife.
Billing was a problem. I had used Beechtree previously and the billing process was a third upon signing the contract, a third at the mid point and a third upon completion. This time they billed us repeatedly throughout the process. I can only assume they were hurting for cash, because our credit is excellent, my credit score is above 820 and we had five times the cost of the job in the bank.
Every time it rains I am reminded not to ever use Beechtree again.
