Belfor Property Restoration Reviews (%countItem)

At the start they were quick and fast to get the ball rolling and made some promises that they did not hold at the end.
They were quick and fast to start, made promises that never got done. Put some items on the insurance quote for the repair work, only to not actually do the work. The estimate has doors in the house to be re-painted and that was never done . There was a non-load bearing wall in question to be replaced as the water was sprayed in the attic, it was in the estimate as well and never got dealt with as they felt it was dry and there was no issues. For my family safety I am paying a contractor to finish up the rest of the job that was promised and never done. I feel like they are quick to get the job started then just stop caring and take money from the insurance for work that was not done. There was several items broken and they are at this point not owning up to anything they have broken that I now have to replace out of my pocket. I feel like I am being unfairly treated at this time. I have heard from countless people that they are terrible but I did not listen and gave them the benefit of the doubt and now regret it.

Desired Outcome

As for a resolution, i want the broken items at their hands to be replace and to pay for the wall removal that i am now doing on my own expense.

Belfor Property Restoration Response • Oct 16, 2018

At the beginning we made it very clear to the client that if the area of concern, the non-supporting wall between the kitchen and living and the ceiling in the kitchen, was affected and required removal we would remove the wall. Upon inspection it was not required thus removal did not happen.

As well what was not completed was and will be removed from the scope of work once ready to invoice to the insurance company.

The client is referring to the doors in the lower basement which are not in the estimate.

The load bearing wall in question was not scheduled to be removed. It was said that if the wall was affected, by either water or smoke, the drywall only would be removed and replaced. There was no evidence of any damages. Thus being said the client requested the wall to be removed to renovated and create an open concept. This was never in the estimate because once inspected it was found to be clear of any water or smoke damage.

The different contractor was hired by the homeowner to make the changes that they desired, not to finish what was started.

It is our responsibility to only put back exactly the way the client had their home prior to the fire loss and not to fulfill their dreams at the expense of the insurance company.

For the items of contents in question, as the plastic bin. They were broken prior to us arriving. The two dehumidifiers that they claim we broke. In fact they "no longer works". All we did was wipe them down as this was the direction I provided to our technicians. If they do not work its only because they did not work prior to us attending.

In regards to the meat grinder that is cracked, please note that after inspection it I found dirt and grime or debris within the crack telling us this was broken prior to us attending.

We will not pay for items that show signs of damages prior to loss.

The removal of the wall was not in our estimate nor did it require removal.

Or warranty is now no longer valid as they had another contractor in to make changes. The removal of the wall allow open concept and change the kitchen layout. They have also had other electricians on site.

There was very high levels of dust. Walls are damaged from the new tile install and they sent an email requesting our return to repaint the walls. Walls that were damaged from another contractor. They had the other contractor also telling us that the electrical in the garage is inadequate and keeps on tripping the breakers. Only to find out they have a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, TV and etc plugged into one circuit causing an overload which in turn will trip the breaker.

Once again our warranty is now null and void.

Sincerely

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The work done by this business was poor and kept having to call them back to fix cracks and new issues and not to mention several other poorly installed items.

At times never showed up nor did they even tell us or give us a heads up as to when will they be returning to work unless we pressed them on it and I was told that we were not priority hence the lengthy time it took to get things done and still have open issues 8 months later, some of us family members kept missing work and other appointments and other obligations.

As for the wall issue, it was said that the wall had to comedown and we agrees made it easier by keeping an open concept so that they would not need to rebuilt the wall saving them time/money.

as for us asking to repaint and dust from reinstalling the floors. the floors are part of the claim and we were not happy with the contractor that was sent to us and we found our own more reliable better quality contractor to do the work it was my understanding that once that was incomplete there would touch up and finishing painting to complete the project fully.

as for the broken items. when I have Items that are fully functional when they leave my house and come back in a non working order. I should not be responsible for someone else's mistakes. it could have been damaged in transportation and in loading and unloading.

Belfor Property Restoration Response • Nov 05, 2018

In response:

We are only responsible to remove and replace solely what is directly damaged, be it by fire or water damage. That is all we get paid to do. We returned to rectify all deficiencies and concerns, be it upon there call or as scheduled to do so. We performed several walk through on site with them explaining whether or not there concerns would or would not be covered by Insurance. Making it very clear that many things they requested were declined as they were not directly damaged by cause of claim, (fire).

We made it very clear that if the wall in question was directly damaged by fire smoke and or water all we would only remove and replace the drywall, not the framing. In this case there was no visible or physical damage to the wall nor was there smoke damage within the cavity as I place my hand within the cavity of the wall in their presence and showed them that indeed there was no sign of smoke damage, nor was there water damage. They repeatedly request and demanded to have this separating wall removed to allow for their open concept look, nothing to do with the claim. It is of no cost or time benefit to us in any way.

Belfor had no involvement with the floor as we showed that damaged and crack tiles were found on the onset of this claim. On our initial walk through we took photos showing tiles were crack and broken before we commenced any emergency clean up and repairs. They hire their own contractor. That being said if they hired a more ("reliable and better qualified contractor") to remove and install there floor tile they would have not created all that dust nor would they have damaged the walls. Thus repainting would not be required. We are not in the business to warranty somebody else's deficiencies or mistakes.

Once again to re-iterate from my last response in regards to the broken items all we did was wipe them down and returned them. They were broken or they did not work prior to us attending. We are not responsible for items broken prior to us attending claim.

Please Note: Any and all warranty on this file is now null and void

We had to use Belfor Restoration at two different times. We were surprised hoe quickly they responded.,to our needed .The work crew and all manager we dealt with were very knowledgeable and curious at all times. The work that was done in a timely fashion and we were more than satisfied.
