Belfor was sent over by my homeowner's insurance company for some bathroom floor damage caused by a leaking toilet flange. They responded right away and placed an industrial grade air scrubber and dehumidifier into the 45sqft bathroom. This worried me since they hadn't taken up any of the soaked vinyl covering or underlayment to allow any water to evaporate. I thought they knew what they were doing...mistake.
Those machines were in the bathroom with the door closed for four days while I stayed at a hotel. Belfor removed the machines and attempted to replace the subfloor and vinyl. The resulting job was clearly done by someone that was not skilled in floor repairs. Very wide white caulk beads on a black floor, with seams that were covered since this person obviously never heard of vinyl seam glue. The vinyl was cut wrong and ripped in several places. The entire installation was laughable!
Belfor was also tasked with replacing the subfloor under my 6-foot long custom vanity. Even though I was told it was replaced, It never had been. I had to show the project manager the pictures I had taken so he could see for himself. No supervision, shoddy workmanship, and poor communication skills ran rampant throughout the entire time Belfor entered my home.
Had I not brought it to my insurance company's attention, I'm sure Belfor would have tried to pass this shoddy work off. Because Belfor is in their 'recommended vendor' program, I had a somewhat difficult time getting the insurance company to fire them. I did not trust Belfor, nor did I want these seedy individuals in my home.
Very long story short, the intense, long-term heat from the two machines caused irreparable damage to my bathroom, including damage to the walk-in shower I installed just a year and a half ago. All sealants and adhesives used to put it in were ruined by the heat and had to be replaced. Belfor billed me for services that were never performed (I have proof). They hired incompetent workers that did a floor repair completely wrong (subfloor & rolled vinyl), committed fraud by claiming to have done things that were never done (and billed for them), lied, and are very non communicative about when and what they are doing to your property.
The project managers (yes, plural) sent to my home didn't seem to know how to replace a shower or take a custom vanity out. They called "friends" (other contractors) that would stop by and take a look and then the belfor bunch would ask them how they (the other contractors) would do it and how Belfor should proceed.
After over a month of a screwed up bathroom floor and another $10,000 or so in damage caused by their negligence, I called the insurance company and had them fired. Belfor responded by sending me an invoice for over $2,000 for the things that they said they had already done.
A job that should have taken no more than a few days, quickly turned into a month and it's still not finished.
Belfor looks to be one of those companies that hopes you're not around while they're working so you don't see their wrong-doings and/or goof ups. Not only the company, but the workers themselves take no pride in their workmanship.
Luckily, I had a home surveillance system with cameras installed and was also able to have neighbors go in and take pictures of the job site every time the contractors left.
I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy. Do your research and stay present, if possible, when the work's being done.
