Bell Ambulance Service Reviews (1)

My mother is 97 years old and terminally ill in Home Hospice. Bell was called by the hospice company on 1/1/16 at 8:15pm to transport her to the hospice unit for a 5 day stay for Respit so the family could have a rest. She has been totally bedridden without sitting in a chair & totally dependent on us moving her for the past 6 months. As soon as the chief EMT walked in, he announced he would use the "Stair Chair" without even assessing the patient. I explained that is not a good idea because of her fragility and she has not sat up in 6 months. I said they always transfer w/ a gurney. He said it is 170 lbs & he will not wrench his back taking it up the 2 stairs on the porch. They insisted on taking her in 20 degree weather with no covers. We arranged for covers plus a hat for her head. She was strapped w/ 2 straps crossing her chest & could not support her weight or head easily without slouching forward against the straps. Instead of carrying her, they wheeled her out the apt., out the front door with NO gurney waiting at the front door. Carried her down the 2 steps & then wheeled her down the sidewalk, down the broken blacktop road past 2 parked cars to the back of the ambulance in the bitter cold, at least 75-100 feet & then transferred her to the gurney. She moaned in pain all the way every time they hit a bump, which was all the way. Her face was full of pain. I was afraid she would die on the way to the facility. The next day she woke up w/ sever back pain & had to receive 3 doses of morphine to control it, moaning all the time. She never had this kind of pain or any morphine before this. After that, she slowly became unresponsive because of the trauma. All the nurses and media contacted are outraged by the negligence & lack of empathy for the terminal elderly patient that was exhibited. I am in the process of contacting State license board and other agencies to complain. These 2 EMT's must be disciplined and/or discharged for the injury they caused, otherwise they may kill someone. HELP!
