Church *** entered into a contract with George B of Bella Roofing to replace the asphalt roof and flat roof of the church property for approximately $135,000. As part of Bella Roofing web page and contract, they stated that they were bonded, licensed and insured and would secure the proper permits with the local authorities to complete the work. The church issued the contractor a check covering the majority of the contract at the contract signing.

After numerous delays, the work was started in late spring of 2018. Primary work was completed in the fall of 2018. After primary work was completed, the foreman on the job demanded to be paid for the balance of the contract or they threatened to initiate a mechanics lien against the church A check was issued (understandably ill advised) for the final payment even though vents needed to be placed in the church roof and construction debris cleaned up. At that time, the church learned that Bella had subcontracted the roof replacement to another company. The subcontractor demanded the check from the church as they had not been paid by the contractor. The church had absolutely no idea that Bella Roofing was not performing the work until the primary work was completed and only learned that the work was performed by the subcontractor when they demanded a check from the church.

The church has made numerous attempts to contact Bella Roofing by phone, mail, and by certified mail and we have received either no response or an excuse from the owner as to why the work has not been completed. Recently, the issuer of this complaint checked with Summit County and Stark County Bureaus of Standards and Permits and learned that Bella Roofing is not licensed, bonded or insured as stated on their web page and in their contract. Also they did not file a permit as required by the local authorities.
It is essential that this work be completed immediately as damage can occur to the church structure as a result of the work not being properly completed.7-30-19 The consumer amended his complaint. Replacement of the roof was approximately $171,000, not $135,000. The contract was signed March 26, 2018.

The business did the roof last year. Everything was fine. According to contract, 10 vents were to be installed. The business was running into colder weather, so installation was pushed off until the springtime. There has been no damage caused because the vents are not installed. The business lost two employees and is currently running behind. The business owner is hopeful that the installation can be done within the next 30 days.

As I have read the contractor response, I must conclude that his response is unacceptable. There are many inaccuracies in his statements. The work was not acceptable as the vents were not put in and it has been about a year and a half since the contract was signed. It is expected that a contracted job be completed in a timely manner. I worked for thirty years for a Fortune 500 building materials company and I sold EDPM underlayment boards, and I can assure him that not having vents in large structures can result in problems in a short period of time! The excuse that the weather was cold and he lost two employees is ludicrous, as two springs, two summers and a fall have gone by and his web site indicates that he has done other jobs subsequent to his commitment to do the work on our church. His company did none of the work, as it was entirely subcontracted without our knowing, until the primary work was completed. . There has been a periodic leak which is evidenced by stained mineral fiber tiles below the flat portion of the roof which leaked after the work on the flat roof was completed. We have no idea what will be involved in fixing this leak. According to Summit County, Mr. Ps' company did not secure a permit to do the work, and his company is not licensed, bonded, or insured as stated on his contract. There is also a significant amount of construction debris left from the work which is still on our roof. We are able to supply pictures of these events. Our church made numerous attempts to contact Mr. Ps over many months and we were given many different excuses when we did get a hold of him. We had to use different numbers because he wouldn't answer the phone if he recognized the number. As it was 7/30 when I filed the complaint, I waited 3 weeks and did not get a response from him. Last week the church filed a court action against Mr. Ps and Bella Roofing. The court date is 9/21 and we will leave that date in effect unless Mr. Ps fixes the above noted problems and has an independent authority, chosen by and at no cost to us, inspect the roof as to the acceptability of the work.

Bella re-shingled my house on November 4, 2015. On July 12, 2018 I called Bella about a roof leak. I have never heard back from them. I paid another company $1600.00 to fix the leak that occurred because Bella's roofers had punctured holes in the chimney flashing with their tear off shovel and the other company also repaired a valley that Bella didn't re-shingle accurately causing water to lie under the shingles.

Bella roofing installed Ms. roof in 2015 it was a complete tear off and replacement.
Her roof was installed as per manufacture spec and city code, any rotten wood was replaced, ice and water guard installed in all valleys and bottom edges,15# underlayment
And 25 yr. shingles
Her claim about Bella ripping the metal flashing during roof installation, would have leaked on the next rain, not 5years later, the valley leak is most likely coming from the chimney flashing due to its location at the top of both valleys.
Bella has a phone service which answers all incoming phones, and documents everyone, if she would have called I would have received a notification instantly!
I feel bad that she had a roof issues and was not able to contact us, I’m not able to
Comment on her issue because I never got a chance to inspect, does she have photos ? and if there was a rip in metal flashing it would have leaked from the first
Day, so with that being said I can’t take any responsibility for her problem and with
Being contacted.

P.S. I know the valleys were correct I did the roof myself.

I am rejecting this response because:I did call with no response. Within a week of the original job I called several times to get someone to come out and look at an issue with the valley. It took two weeks for them to send out someone, he looked at it and left without doing anything or communicating so I was not surprised when I didn't receive a response when I called about the leak. The leak was so bad that I couldn't wait to find out if they would ever return my call, let alone come out and repair it.Yes it was the chimney flashing that had the pin holes in it from the tear off and it took a severe downpour to find the issue.*** was definitely NEVER on the roof doing the job himself. The other contractors did take pictures and if you actually plan on doing anything about it, I would be happy to contact them and get pictures....I know they will call me back.

I am highly disappointed in this company. My husband and I hired them to fix a leak in our roof a little over a year ago. While the workers were incredibly friendly the leak started back up again only a few weeks after they assured us it was fixed. We called and informed them that the leak was back and they sent one employee back out who just reexamined the area but did nothing to fix it. After multiple attempts to reach someone at Bella Roofing to complete the job that we paid over $700 for we are having to look at hiring a more reliable company to finish the job.
