Review: On 11/17/13, I attempt to purchase gas from Belle View Exxon. The debit card reader at the pump was not working, so I went inside to pay. While inside I grab 2 containers of motor oil then went to the cashier. The cashier rings up the oil at $6.95 each. I tell him that the sign on the shelf indicates that the oil is $5.95. He is adamant that the oil is $6.95. I bring him over to the shelf where I picked up the oil, and show him where the sign is clearly marked $5.95. He still tries to argue that it is $6.95. We go back and forth for a short while. He then says OK, and rings up the oil at $5.95. I tell him I also want to purchase $60 of gas. He says Thats a lot of gas. I attempt to pay with my debit card, and he says, You cant buy that much gas with a debit card. I tell him that yes, I can, and Ive done it before at this gas station. He then says, Well I need to see your ID. I state that Ive never had to show ID before at this station. He says Anything over $20, you have to show ID. And sometimes even for $10. This makes absolutely no sense to me, but I give him the ID anyway. He stares at the ID and my debit card for a long time (probably close to a minute), then gives them back to me and completes the purchase (in the end, I only buy $50 of gas). Clearly he did not want to sell me the gas, but I do not know why. The only conclusion that I can draw is that he thought the debit card was stolen. Once the sale was complete, I went outside and pump the gas. There was a gentleman pumping gas who went inside to pay after me. I asked him if he paid with a credit or debit card, and he said yes. I asked him if he was required to show ID, he said no. The most obvious difference between this man and myself is that he is and older (maybe late 40s, early 50s) Caucasian man. I am a 33 year old, African-American female.Desired Settlement: I would like to understand the reasoning behind the cashier's actions. An apology would also be appreciated.
