To Whom It May Concern:We were contracted by Ms*** to direct the funeral services for her mother *** *** ***, and these services included a pre-paid policy set up through our funeral home. Mrs*** *** passed at the end of October 2016, and services were completed at the end
of November 2016. Included in our contract with Ms*** was us arranging for the monument at the cemetery to be engraved and two perpetual candles to be placed at the stone. We do not perform this type of service directly, and outsourced it to a locally owned monument company. It does take a little bit of time for the monument companies to perform the work, as they have a smaller staff and cover a wide area, so they wait for a "build up" in a certain area, and then perform as much of the work in that area as possible. Due to cold weather that occurs during winter, the monument company further delays engraving services as it could lead to damaging the monument and lead to a costly repair, so they typically wait until spring to start up again. We first received word that the work was not complete from Ms*** in April 2017. We informed her that it should be completed within the near future as the company started up engraving operations in March. We were contacted again by Ms*** in May who again informed us that the work was not completeWe then contacted the The company we outsourced the work to claims that due to a highly rainy spring, they were backlogged and would be taking care of it shortly. Two weeks later, Ms*** informed us that she wanted us to hire a different company, which we did. We also apologized to her and sent her a refund check of $508.00, which as of today does not appear to have been cashed. The second monument company did the engraving about a month and a half later, but were waiting on a shipment of perpetual candles. After receiving a message from Ms*** that the engraving was complete but the candle installation was not, I personally went to the original monument company and picked up two perpetual candles and installed them myself. I sent an email and the attached pictures of the monument to Ms*** on September 5, 2017. While I agree that Ms*** has been more than patient, there is only so much control that we as a company can have on third parties, and after this incident, we are reviewing our procedures in terms of keeping a more watchful eye on when third parties complete the tasks they have been hired out for.*** ** *** **Vice PresidentBellows Funeral Chapel
