My wife and I are residents of Genoa TownshipWe opted to sign up for the township’s sidewalk repair program that is contracted through Columbus Asphalt PavingI returned home for work on Tuesday 06/21/to find that work had begun on our sidewalk, the defective slabs were broken up and removedHowever, a mature pear tree on our property next to the work area was severely damagedMy wife and I were both shocked at what seemingly was little regard for the tree and our propertyThere was no notification left for us from Columbus Asphalt Paving explaining the damage or apologizing for itWe're unsure of the long term affect on the tree, but the tree will no longer look the same once the damaged branches are removedOn Wednesday 06/22/16, two Columbus Asphalt Paving workers rolled up with saws to cut the damaged branches, 'as instructed by their office'I asked how the damaged occurred in the first placeThe response was the person using the backhoe caused itI asked about the cracked branch on the other side of the tree and they couldn't explain how it was damagedBottom line, the tree was just fine until employees from Columbus Asphalt Paving showed upSimply sawing off the damaged branches doesn't return the tree to it's original stateWe have a neighbor who witnessed Columbus Asphalt Paving damaging the tree repeatedly with a backhoe, and plenty of photos depicting the damageI contacted Genoa Township to express our concern with the tree damageThe township made arrangements for Columbus Aslphalt Paving to contact usIn the conversation with an employee name 'Pete', I asked why none of the workers bothered to inform us of the damage or apologize for itHis response, 'we discourage our workers from talking to our customers'Really? I also asked why the concrete couldn't have been removed manuallyPete's reply; it a fixed bid job with the township, manually removing the slabs would have taken too much time and cost too muchMind you, there were only sidewalk slabs and both were crumblingIf you're not seeing the picture yet, Columbus Asphalt Paving is more concerned about their bottom line than any collateral damage they may causeNow here's the kickerI filed a complaint with the Revdex.comFollowing is Columbus Asphalt Paving's response to the complaintWord for word"We have a contract with the Township to replace sidewalks Any issues should be directed thru the Township We do not have a Contract with this individual."
