involves medical services, and to a great extent we are limited in what we can share with your office because of our confidentiality obligations as they pertain to protected healthcare information (PHI).
What I can tell you is that the services in question occurred more than years ago in January 2012. At the time of service this patient did not inform Beloit Health System of her VA benefits coverage. Several months after she was treated she contacted our billing office and asked that the services be billed to the VA. Unfortunately, it was already too late for the VA’s timely filing deadlines but we informed her that we would attempt to obtain benefits on her behalf. The VA denied the original claim as well as our appeals. The patient subsequently began working with our financial counselors to determine if she might be eligible for our charity benefit. However as recently as February 19, she had still not provided all the required documentation to complete the application, and we have had no further contact from her since that dateAs a result of the lapse in time since her last communication with our staff, we have no further options available to her for either billing or financial assistance.
