wanted to come in but not payClient said unfavorable statements and threatened litigious actionThe client was then briefed about the termination of our VCPR due to unwillingness to agree upon or accept responsibility for fees * Note from the AVMA: Veterinarians may choose whom they will serveBoth the veterinarian and the client have the right to establish or decline a Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship and to decide on treatmentThe decision to accept or decline treatment and related cost should be based on adequate discussion of clinical findings, diagnostic techniques, treatment, likely outcome, estimated cost, and reasonable assurance of paymentOnce the veterinarian and the client have agreed, and the veterinarian has begun patient care, they may not neglect their patient and must continue to provide professional services related to that injury or illness within the previously agreed limitsAs subsequent needs and costs for patient care are identified, the veterinarian and client must confer and reach agreement on the continued care and responsibility for feesIf the informed client declines further care or declines to assume responsibility for the fees, the VCPR may be terminated by either party*As you can see, we spent a lot of time with Mrs*** and ***We have tried our best to treat ***’s conditions from performing an ovariohysterectomy while in heat, discussed heartworm treatment options, routine care, and chronic ear infections We used our resources and advice from specialists, as well as the latest literature on resistant chronic otitis externa We worked with the client, the patient, the budget, and animal welfare in mind, as we developed ethical treatment plans Our doctors work hard and diligently to uphold the Veterinary Oath We are always delighted to work with a new family and patient, such as the *** family We are saddened to terminate the VCPR with the *** family, though we found it necessary for our business Ultimately, we hope that our relationship with the *** family does not deter them from adopting a rescued pet in the future or from seeking needed veterinary care for *** Kindest regards,Belton Veterinary Clinic

This client was new to our clinic and visited on 10/17/17.  We see dogs of this breed daily and do know the appropriate way to handle them, we do not discriminate against any dog.  The dog showed aggressive behavior upon exam so we placed a muzzle for the safety of our staff.  We did...

send the dog home with medication to see if that specific medication would help with allergies, every patient is different, and especially with allergies there is a lot of trial and error.  My doctor did return a call to Ms. [redacted] on 10/30/17 in regards to different medication options, one of them being an over the counter medication she can buy at her local grocery store.  There was another call that my doctor returned on 11/8/17 explaining more options and listing pricing. All of these phone calls and suggestions are listed in the patients medical records, which I can provide copies of if necessary.  The patient was never returned for a recheck to try a different treatment option.  The owner was told about our policy with 1-800-PetMeds, this applies to all of our clients, it is a clinic policy. 1-800-PetMeds notifies it's customers of approved and declined prescriptions.  Because we have this policy we offer our own online pharmacy and the link can be found on our website.  Before the client was transferred to me she was very rude to my receptionist as well as using foul language with her, we don't tolerate that type of treatment of our staff members from anyone.  I then personally spoke with her and to save her a trip from Copperas Cove to our clinic offered to make an exception and call in a heartworm prescription to the H-E-B pharmacy in her area, which I was told by her was all she wanted.  She never discussed or asked me about an allergy treatment for her dog.  When I ended the phone call with her it seemed to me she was satisfied with that answer and no additional follow up was needed.  We have never bullied this client, we do not contact our clients unless a call is requested by them or they receive a vaccination reminder in the mail, every contact with this client was initiated by her.
