Ben Chisholm's Recreeening Service

On March 25, 2023 I signed an agreement with Ben Chisholm to Remove my Hurricane Ian damaged Lanai and completely build a new one . I paid him a deposit of $5000 to do this work .Work was estimated to start in June, 2023.On June 9, 2023, he contacted me for an additional $800 for fixturing so he could start the job. We both signed an agreement as to what was to be done. Since that time, promise, promises, no answers ,etc. Not a lick of work has been done, with last promise being October 13, 2023.
DO NOT PAY ANY MONEY BEFORE WORK IS STARTED.

Paid the contractor to do a tear down and put up of roof panels on a liana. Never did the job but took the money.
On Feb. 26,2019 we contracted with Ben's Rescreening to remove the roof of our liana and replace it with new panels, plus a ceiling fan. He indicated he would need funds to purchase the panels and he would start the work within the next week. It is now almost the end of April, no work at all done. Contact with Ben is erratic, finally we said forget the job give us our money back. Unfortunately we gave him a check in the amount of $2,184,19 so far he has given us about $400.00 back. We were foolish to give him such a great amt. but he lives in our neighborhood and came recommended by the president of our association, and we felt dealing and spending money locally was the responsible thing to do. Ben now has a new works truck since he cashed our check, unfortunately it is not parked at our house doing the work he was at one time contracted to do. I feel Ben knew from the beginning he wasn't going to do the job and either he cannot run his business very well or he scammed us, I hope it was not the latter.

On 12/2/2017 contracted with Ben Chisholm to paint and rescreen pool cage at our home address. Paid $900 deposit. Recontacted him over the past year in attempt to have work completed. He gave multiple excuses and would reschedule. As of 10/10/18 work not done. Requested money back. Not done. Filed a complaint with North Port police today and seeing that Ben Chisholm had been arrested for theft. Spoke with State Attorney office who states there are multiple complaints against him. Told to notify Revdex.com

WORK NEVER STARTED - POLICE INVOLVED TO GET REFUND OF DEPOSIT
ON 30 MARCH 2018, I HIRED BEN'S RESCREEN AND GAVE HIM A DEPOSIT OF $325. HE WAS SCHEDULED TO DO THE WORK 6-7 APRIL 2018. HE NEVER SHOWED UP OR CALLED ME. I SAW HIM IN THE COMMUNITY AND ASKED HIM WHEN HE WOULD PERFORM THE WORK. HE SAID 16 APRIL 2018. HE NEVER SHOWED UP. I LEFT MESSAGES AND TEXTS WITH HIM AND NEVER RECEIVED ANY RESPONSE. I LIVE IN HERON CREEK GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB COMMUNITY OF MAINLY SENIORS. I CONTACTED MY INFORMATION OFFICE AND WAS TOLD THEY HAVE A LIST OF 20 PEOPLE WHO ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT BEN.
MY BANK TOLD ME TO CONTACT THE POLICE. I TALKED WITH OFFICER *** AT THE NORTH PORT POLICE DEPARTMENT AND HE IMMEDIATELY CALLED BEN. WITHIN A FEW MINUTES, BEN CALLED THE OFFICER. BEN THEN CALLED ME AND SAID HE WOULD DO THE JOB THE NEXT DAY. I TOLD HIM HE WAS FIRED AND I WANTED MY DEPOSIT RETURNED. AFTER 5 DIFFERENT EXCUSES, I GOT MY MONEY BACK 4 DAYS LATER. I FEEL THAT BEN IS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF SENIORS SINCE MANY SENIORS DO NOT WANT TO STRESS THEMSELVES OUT BY FIGHTING TO GET THEIR MONEY RETURNED. I'M SURE IF ALL THE PEOPLE WHO ARE UNHAPPY WITH BEN WOULD CONTACT THE PROPER FLORIDA AUTHORITIES, BEN WOULD LOSE HIS LICENSE. THAT'S WHAT THE OFFICER TOLD ME. I GAVE HIM THE ENTIRE MONTH OF APRIL TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT BEFORE DEMANDING MY DEPOSIT BACK. BEWARE OF BEN'S RESCREENING.

If I had read these reviews, I probably would not have hired Ben to do our cage rescreen, and that would have been MY loss. I did hire him, and am very pleased w/the quality and price of a full rescreen, paint of large cage, and replacement of all screws. Yes, there were some time issues. That could be poor time management, but is more likely a result of other subcontractors. I would indeed recommend Ben's to all. I would off a 4 star review for quality of work. If you hire him, just be aware that sometimes things just go slower than you might like. Ben is a polite, kind gentleman, and I believe is an honest businessman who DID do just exactly what he said he would.

Hire Ben C. to remove and replace windows and doors. Never completed the job. He is full of excuses.
On October 12, 2017 Ben C. of Ben's Rescreening agreed to measure window and door openings for (9) replacement windows and (2) doors in our Lanai. We agreed to a price of $4151.00 for the windows and doors and $1500.00 for labor upon completion. We paid the $4151.00 up front and he was supposed to order the windows and doors upon payment of the $4151.00.

We ask Ben C. if there was a permit required would he be responsible for pulling the permit. He indicated that he would if required. My wife and I were under the impression that Ben was a licensed contractor.

Ben C. said the windows and doors should be in and installed sometime around Thanksgiving 2017. And when he didn't make that date, he then indicated that it would be by Christmas 2017. He indicated that he had the windows but had not delivered them by Christmas. Finally, after I got angry and insisted that he get them here and install them he showed up the second week of January with my windows and then showed up a week later to install them.

Four of the nine windows fit and the two doors also fit. Five of the nine windows did not fit and Ben C. took them to return them to be fixed. I have not received the five windows or any refund of the price of the five windows. Ben has been extremely evasive and has had many excuses for not delivering the windows. I believe the value of the windows to be approx. $2275.00. As Ben C. made little or no effort to produce the 5 windows he owed us or finish the job I decided to pursue ordering and getting the job completed.

The installation of the four windows and two doors has not been completed. Ben also removed all the screening on the Lanai and has not replaced any of it. There are screws missing in the windows and doors. The thresholds for both doors have not been installed.

Do not hire Ben's Rescreening. They gave us bid in October and took a 50% down payment. Said he could not do it until January because of so many jobs. That was fine with us so come the end of January, no Ben's and no call. Called and left VM, no call back. Finally able to get him to answer in person. Said he would be at our place the following Monday. Did not show or call. Many VM's later still nothing. Finally we reached him again and we requested our deposit. He said he was in hospital but would bring money the following week. Nothing. We finally called and threatened him with attorney and he showed up at home the next morning with cash. I know in the past he was well known in our area for doing a good job. Don't know what happened but do NOT hire him.

Made a contract on 1/6/2018 with deposit. As of today April 6 no work had been done. Never showed to refund my deposit.
No return calls.
On 1/6/2018 I met with Ben C. to do some screening repair on my Lanai. We signed an agreement that the work would start in 2 weeks. A 50% deposit was given via check. On the 2 week mark I called to see if the work had been started and.... No it hadn't. ( I live in New Jersey and my brother was helping me maintenance on the house) was told the weather was bad. This has gone on for several months. Excuse after excuse. Finally was told work would take place on March 31 only to be told that he was busy with another job. Arrived in Florida on April 1 and still no work. We were suppose to me on April 5@11:00 for him to issue a refund but he never showed and never returned phone calls.

Work not completed and has failed to return to fix defective items.
Contracted for the job in March 2017 and gave Mr. C. a 50% deposit. He finally showed up in May to do the job. Did not install gutter splash guard which was included in the price. New beam warped within a few weeks creating an opening which allows insect intrusion into the cage enclosure. Reported the problem to him as soon as it occurred. In spite of numerous calls, texts, and face to face conversations, Mr. C. has failed to complete the work and repair/replace the defective materials.

In March 2017 I contracted with Ben's Screening for a full new cage and screen at ***, North Port. I gave him a 50% deposit
He cashed cheque and despite numerous calls he has yet to start job or return deposit. He continues to accept new jobs despite taking our money, not doing the job and refusing to return our deposit.

Ben C. signed the contract, got deposit and never completed the job.
On November 2017 I called Ben's C. Rescreening to estimate the job on my pool enclosure. After negotiating the price he received deposit and promised to complete the job on the second week of February, he didn't start working when supposed to because "death in the family" as he said. Promised to start the job in two days, instead he called and said that his sister died and he can't start it. I demanded my deposit back.
