I am a manager of a Kitchener-based rapper/musician called ***. We have recorded and mastered a seven track DEBUT rap album and are in the final steps of preparing for it's release. After we release, we are planning on posting a video for each track scheduled every week or so, so that we can increase attention and the amount of people we reach. We have independently shot 2 live videos and are collaborating with videographers who will create 4 other, non live action videos. Needing one more live video, I posted to a *** group called ***+ *** that aims to connect videographers and photographers in Ontario with people looking for their services. This was on APRIL 12th of this year, and I received a message from Mr. the same day. We had arranged to meet that Saturday 15th to discuss the project. In our discussion I had explained we don't have a lot of money and are looking for someone as passionate as my client is about music who is looking to expand artistically rather than turn a profit. After hearing my clients music, and expressing his wish to branch out into different genres such as making hip hop videos Mr. agreed to do a TWO DAY shoot for $250 CAD +food expenses by his staff for those days. I also explained to him the time sensitivity and our readiness to release the album, which is why we we were extraordinarily grateful when he decided to do the shoot the very next weekend, starting Saturday the 22nd, in Toronto at locations picked by him. For the payment of the $250; the agreement was that my client, ***, Ben *** and his staff would meet up on both the 22nd and the 23rd, shoot the video, and after we would receive either a USB drive of all the raw footage from those days or that it would be uploaded to a *** with shared access.To this day, SEPTEMBER 5th, after countless messages phone calls and emails, we have not received any raw footage on USB or given access to any online folder that it may be in
Finish the job Mr. received payment the morning of the 12th, before the shoot had even started (documented via E TRSANFER), and all of his staff was given cash for food expenses during the lunch periods for those days. Mr. refuses to respond to me and has chosen to only message my client sporadically and with no results and no idea of when he will provide the product. All we want is the raw footage that was promised to us. No editing, just the files; we want no further contact with this business
The initial agreement was for $250 for a performance music video which works out as $6.94 per hour with editing, not including the two weeks of pre production where I gave the artist and opportunity to input any ideas. The music video was to edited and delivered, which it was as agreed. The client then chose to request additional graphic content whose budget was triple that of the original budget while not paying the 6 volounteers on this project including a steady can operator whose value is roughly $500/per day. In principle I have an issues with the way *** and *** do buisness. I have since provided a drop box link to the footage. However I am still very unhappy they intend to spend additional money on something I've shot without properly compensating those who made it possible in the first place.
