The shipment weighed lbsThe contract is $0.60/lb per item damaged, not per box damagedSince the customer packed the items themselves in Texas, there was no unpacking at the California destination address by a professional moverIn other words, there was no 3rd party to witness any items
damaged from the moveTherefore at this time there is no proof that anything inside the boxes were actually damagedWhen we asked the customer to then take pictures of the items inside the boxes, she became hostile, said that many of her clothes hangers were broken, etcThe customer never told us of any damage to actual items in the boxesFor some reason the customer thinks that if the edges or top of a box that they packed were dented in or the top was pushed in, then a check for several thousand dollars will simply be mailed to themSince the customer declined optional valuation coverage on their shipment, and they unpacked the boxes without the help of a moving professional, it is up to the the customer to prove that they actually had damage to anything inside their boxesWe have encouraged the customer to take pictures of any item actually damaged inside the boxes, and this has not happenedThe customer thought they could simply make up a bunch of high-value numbers and get paid that amountMany insurance companies and adjusters would immediately suspect that this is a fraudulent claim for damagesIf there is a much higher amount claimed than the contract states for damages, and yet zero evidence for actual item damage, that is considered to be fraudulent, which is actually against the law in many states for filing a fraudulent claimWe will await the actual evidence that any item inside any box was damaged, and then as by law pay out the $0.60/lb per our contract
