STEEL DOOR (6 PANEL) MANUFACTURING QUALITY
09/20 I purchased two steel Benchmark doors from Lowes with the casing. Everything was stapled together. There were:
1) the staple holes were asymetrical and unsealed
2) the wood join at the sill was not sealed (no wonder they always rot there)
3) the material was as cheap as it could possibly be
4) the pre-installed door hinges were not drilled straight into the door - each one was drilled at an angle and only 3 of the 4 drill holes had a screw
5) the hinges are not exterior grade

I wondered if the mfg process was automated and the robot operator phoning it in.

This quality level is typical of Lowes sourcing. Revenge of the box stores.

They offered $200.00 rather than the full $2504.00 that I had requested. They are doing the typical and expected thing of trying to pass the blame onto the install, when this door would have leaked no matter what it was installed in. A brand new quality door should not need to be caulked, the seal should be inherent and done at the factory. The Water is coming through the door itself, not around the door, which would indicate an install problem. Review: I have a benchmark door that I bought in 1997. It has a warranty, however, [redacted] bought Benchmark but will not warranty my door. The door is cracking and the frame of the etched glass is upheaving off of the door frame. This was a very expensive entry door and at the time was considered "top of the line." They will not even talk to me about the warranty because [redacted] says we just bought the name. I asked him where my "warranty" is and he sayd I don't have one because Benchmark is no longer. I do not feel that is fair. They door should not cracking and the cracking is spreading. They won't even give me any type of accomodation. Thus, to tell me that there is no warranty becuase they bought the company in 2004. The door was definately in warranty in 2004! I spoke to [redacted] at [redacted]/Benchmark. [redacted] ext. [redacted]. Oh, by the way the website says Benchmark by [redacted].....but they won't help me because they didn't make the door. How can you void a warranty by buying the name of a company????Desired Settlement: I would like them to stand by the product that they bought...Benchmark. I would like them to give me a credit to purchase another door at [redacted] sells Benchmark doors, that is what I have. They should stand by it. I would like my door replaced at the the vaule I paid in 1997, or give my a credit to get a new door.

CONFIDENTIAL COMMUNICATION INTENDED RECIPIENTS ARE LIMITED TO THE Revdex.com (“Revdex.com”) OF CENTRAL VIRGINIA and [redacted].

[redacted]. (“[redacted]”) submits this response to [redacted] (“[redacted]”) report that was assigned case number [redacted] states that she bought a Benchmark door at [redacted] in 1997. [redacted]. (“[redacted]”) did not sell a Benchmark door by [redacted] at [redacted] in 1997. The door which [redacted] has is a Benchmark (note, not a Benchmark by [redacted] door) one that was manufactured by [redacted] (“**”). It is our understanding that ** went out of business in 2004. At this time we would ask the Revdex.com’s assistance in obtaining additional information from Wimer to further evaluate her claim. The information we are requesting is as follows:

1) A picture of the information stamp on the door by GP.

2) Proof of Purchase.

Once we receive the above information we will be able to further evaluate [redacted] claim.

We thank you for assisting us in resolving this issue.

Review: A new Benchmark door was installed properly this May, but in a little unorthodox manner because of the state of the house (a little bit of rotting etc). This door LEAKS. I spent a lot of time trying to determine where the leak was coming from, and it was in fact both of the sidelights. Since water was coming through the sidelights, it is very obvious that the door is defective from the factory. A brand new door should not leak. My family spent $2504.00 on this door and it was professionally installed, costing more. The manufacturer sent out a "repairman", who broke parts of the door, and got silicone caulking all over the entryway of the house. As a professional, I would call this incompetency. I am not sure why the manufacturer believes it is acceptable to need to repair a BRAND NEW door, but I have already ordered a better door from another company to replace this one. Even "repaired", I do not trust this company, the quality, or anything about them going into the future. We spent $2504.00 for a long term door, not a door that leaks and needs repair all the time. We want them to stand by their product, and all they have offered is a measly $200.00 to compensate for the broken parts of the door. The manufacturer is claiming the install is not correct (1/8" out of square), and was not caulked properly, so they won't refund us or work with us on anything. The same guy who broke a bunch of parts and made a mess was the one who measured this, but regardless, as a professional engineer I highly doubt 1/8" of an inch would cause leaking on a sidelight. This company is acting in an immoral and unethical way.Desired Settlement: We want the full cost of the door refunded in a timely manner. We are not going to allow this product to stay installed in our home and continue to leak and cause rotting problems. I do not want a replacement as I do not trust anything this company makes, and do not want anything they make near my home. The new door is already ordered, costing $4499.00, along with a $1500.00 install. I want Benchmark to refund us the total cost of the first door: $2504.00.
