Bender Lumber Company Reviews (%countItem)

3/6/2020 In 2005 my builder bought my Therma-Tru Brand front door, side lights and transom from Bender Lumber. The set came with a LIFETIME Guarantee (and was priced accordingly). The windows in the door, 1 side light and the transom have FAILED. Neither Bender Lumber Company, Wholesale Building Materials or Therma-Tru Doors has offered to the honor the warranty. It is not worth the paper it is written on. I would recommend sting aw*** from Bender Lumber Company and Therma-Tru Doors. UPDATE 3/9/2020 After complaining on Facebook a representative from Bender Lumber called me, he first scolded me for complaining about Bender Lumber on Facebook, he then went on to offer me a $1,600.00 "credit" to buy a $5,000.00 door system (+ installation)… what a great w*** to honor a lifetime warranty. I do not believe this is the w*** honest people do business. I have been working on this since the end of January and still no resolution is sight.

I feel like we did our part by filing a claim as soon as we could. Mr. B provided no documentation other than the photos we ask him to provide. You will see our recent reply to him as his warranty is with *** and not with Bender Lumber. Our only responsibility is to help him file a claim which we did. It would be Therma Tru who would make any decision on his claim and he should negotiate with them.

We really don’t think is claim is even valid as the door was never finished properly as stated in the warranty.

I feel he is on shaky ground and do not wish any farther contact with him. We don’t feel we have any liability in the matter as we have done our part. His fight is with Therma Tru and not Bender Lumber. We will not participate in a back and forth negotiation with Mr. B either through Revdex.com or face to face. We have done our part. We have no dog in this fight.

You can review our latest and last correspondence with Mr. B below.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 14212118, and have determined the response would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

[Provide details of why you are not satisfied with this resolution.] I was directed to this company by ***, as their authorized agent and dealer and the company who sold my builder the door system in the first place. Bender Lumber requested photos, which were provided and then claimed they would send their agent to look at the door. The agent, Justin Lowe, from Wholesale Building Materials was sent by Bender Lumber (or mbe Therma Tru) and Mr Lowe at that time agreed the claim was valid. Bender Lumber then offered a $1,600.00 "credit" to buy a new door. (but only if I removed negative reviews from Facebook) This front door system consist of a front door, two side-lites and a transom. The glass in the door, the side-lites and the transom have failed. After I rejected his offer and sent him a Certified Letter demanding my door system be replaced, Mr. W decided the claim was not valid because the door was not painted on all six sides. Neither the transom nor the side-lites are painted on all six sides...the door system came in one piece, the door systems internal parts would have had to be painted in production, when it was built, for Mr. W allegations to be correct. Further, the door is protected underneath a porch, which is visible in the photographs provided to Bender Lumber. Mr. W is grasping at straws to try to invalidate my claim. Bender Lumber can settle this claim by hiring someone to replace this door system themselves or by agreeing to a single pment sufficient to allow me to hire someone to replace this front door system. An estimate from Lowe's is $5,500, an estimate from Tommy D's Window's and Doors is $6,700. A fair single pment is $6,100.00.

Edward B

We ordered all of the wood, metal, and other items for our home build last year, and have had nothing but issues obtaining our materials. Items were frequently misplaced after being received at this location, and an entire huge pallet of wood was even present DURING inventory yet still considered missing until it was discovered a month later, having been sitting unnoticed on the premises for 6-8 weeks minimum.

Thusly, the issue I am filing with the Revdex.com regarding is not a surprise.

Early this year, we transferred our account to a different Bender Lumber location, in Columbus, Indiana. As we did not have enough cedar siding during installation(despite ordering plenty extra to side small outbuildings), we ordered and received a pallet of cedar siding from the Columbus location.

After we received this cedar siding, our contractor at the time received a call from the original Bender Lumber location that they had found a pallet of cedar siding delivered in our name. Clearly, this was cedar siding that had been originally ordered but was never delivered.

On May 11th, I called and spoke with Gene, the new manager, who promised to investigate. He stated that he was not working at this location at the time of these events, so he didn't know anything about it. I stated that while I understand that he wasn't there, that doesn't mean that it didn't happen and that we are in fact owed a refund for that pallet of siding.

On July 6th, I called and spoke with Gene again as he had not contacted me. He acknowledged that he did not attempt to contact me and stated that he needed to "get with Ed," which is why he had not called me. I informed him that I would give him another week before being forced to explore other options.

As I did not receive any communication from Gene, I reached out to Bender Lumber's Facebook page on July 15th regarding the issue. I did not receive a response.

Building a home is a complicated undertaking for people who are in the know, much less folks who only do it once in their lifetime. It is also hard to keep up with on our end as well. We do sometimes make mistakes like receiving merchandise and then misplacing it in our warehouse and then not being able to locate it when it is needed on the job.

What I am saying is that the scenario the *** put forth is a possibility as well as reasonable. However, and in this case not entirely factual. We probably did misplace this product for them but as you will see gave them full credit when there was any confusion. They then used that credit to purchase more materials for the home.

Attached you will see a list that includes every deposit, debit, credit and invoice that occurred between Bender Lumber and The ***. As you will see they had put a total of $63337.00 down with us to be used to purchase materials for their home. They spent $62810.14 and we sent them the difference of $526.86 in the form of a check.

As far as we are concerned we are sorry they had a bad experience with Bender Lumber but we fulfilled our duties in providing the materials for their home. They got everything due. We wish them well and hope this explains the details in such a way that they may understand.

Thanks

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and have determined the response would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
Our complaint is in regards to the bundle of lumber that was missing then suddenly appeared, after we had to order more lumber from the Columbus location. This is separate from the refund check that was undisputed. In addition, the bundle of siding cost more than the refund amount, providing even more evidence that they are entirely unrelated. The credit was at the final refunded amount at the time we were alerted to the discovery of a bundle of siding. Thusly, we are still owed a refund for the lost bundle of siding.Complicated or not, please explain how the refund remained the same that entire time.

As a response to the rejection of our explanation all we would like to add is that we can always follow the paper trail to resolve these kinds of issues. We provided our proof and the paper trail that supports our case. The complainant has not chosen to provide any kind of documentation to provide their case. Should they have any kind of documentation that supports their case we would readdress this situation because we would not want to have anything not due us. Until then we feel we have done what is correct in providing all the materials that were paid for and don't feel anything is due the complainant.

The business did not disagree that an entire pallet was lost. What kind of proof could I possibly offer? Proof of non-delivery literally does not exist anywhere, for anything, ever, due to the simple definition of non-delivery. The business did not provide proof of delivery, which is very telling. It looks like we will need to call ***
