Bennett Coachworks Reviews (7)

The shop and owner are a total ripoff! I dropped off a stripped down body only to have them dip it and then take off and on rotisserie. Then was told the car needed extensive bodywork, as in $30,000. I told them stop all work sit the body on chassis and put the 4 bolts in body mounts. I was charged $7000 for this. Absolutely absurd. Ridiculous.

I complained and was given a $500 discount. It's insulting. They flat out made up invoices for my car out of thin air. When I asked to see the detailed list of what was done, no one could produce anything. Two months go by and suddenly all these invoices appear.

Charged me $1620 for storage. I asked Bob if I was going to be charged for storage, he stated "no. You have to have your car here and in line for when we are ready to work on it." It took 9 friggin' months for them to get to my car. That seem reasonable to you?

Go elsewhere. They work incredibly slow, want $10,000 deposited before they even touch your car and are going to charge you for even thinking about your car. Heck, they didn't even change or work on my car and it cost $7000.

Rip off artists and con men. They should be out of business!

+1

After paying over $3,000 to have a engine put in my car by this company, 20 minutes after picking the car up from the shop it died on me while I was driving to work

In building the 30th and last Elite Enterprises ALLARD J2X replica, I disliked the Elite factory’s grill replication as it was not sufficiently original looking. With the grill being the main focal point of the car, for the money invested, I felt the project called for a grill that was close to the original. The skill and professionalism of this crew is astounding. When I told [redacted] that the grill is an exact replication, he said, in a matter of fact way, “that’s what we intended.” The shop researched original J2X grills and recreated a masterpiece. I am eternally grateful for their expertise. Their intent to exceed expectations is readily apparent.

I stumbled across Bennett Coachworks by happenstance. For sometime I had been searching for a builder with an in depth knowledge of the early Datsun Z cars. I have owned my early 1974 Datsun 260Z since it left the showroom floor, but after many years of storage it needed rehabilitation. I had talked to several builders, but none made me feel comfortable with their knowledge of Z cars. While looking through an old Nissan Sport magazine I saw an ad for Bennett Coachworks. Their website was encouraging. [redacted] had a Z racing background, and his shop had rebuilt several Zcars. After speaking with [redacted] I put the car on a trailer and took it to Milwaukee to determine if this car was worth the effort. [redacted] and I hit it off and once he had inspected my car the build was on.
I wanted a more nimble, safer, and quicker car that looked almost stock, and that is what [redacted] delivered. The paint work and interior are gorgeous. The L26 engine block was increased to 2887 cc by boring it .080 over. A Rebello stroker kit including: new rod bearings, new crank bearings, new H beam connecting rods, new JE forged racing pistons, L28 crankshaft, and longer duration higher lift cam were added. New round top carbs were supplied by Z-Therapy, then sent to Rebello for re-maching to E-production spec. An E31 head was sent by [redacted] to Rebello for re-maching. [redacted] sourced a used 280Z 5 speed transmission and had it rebuilt. New adjustable shocks, bushings, clutch, wheels, brakes, AC, and sound system to name a few were all done in [redacted] shop.
The finished product is one gorgeous 260Z that is as much a piece of art, as it is an outstanding vehicle.
Thank you [redacted] and all the guys in your shop that made this a reality. [redacted]

E type Jaguar 1967

I am very pleased what Bennett's team was able to accomplish on my E type. Everything was handled with care and done to the highest quality of workmanship. They were very knowledgeable and knew exactly what my car needed to look her best again to keep it original. I plan to take all my classic sport cars to them in the future and highly recommend them to anyone who wants minor to major work done.

I have a 1978, 280z, for which I purchased from the original owner in 1998. It was daily driver until stored in 2001. In 2008, I moved to Missouri, since the operations of the car diminished on each visit to four (4) different repair shops. By 2010, the car completely stopped running.
Unable to find local qualified “z” mechanic shop, I extended my search outside of Missouri, which lead me to Bennett Coachwork, Milwaukee, WI.
I shipped the car to Bennett Coachwork, within weeks, Bob and the staff at Bennett Coachwork, had a complete diagnosis, shortly thereafter, I was presented with several repair options.
A few modifications later, the car was operational. I figured the car was just merely running and that made me happy.
Remember I shipped the car from Missouri, to Bennett Coachwork in Milwaukee. Not knowing how good of job performed by Bennett Coachwork, I figured I will have it shipped back to Missouri.
I rented a U-Haul Auto Transporter and set course for Bennett Coachwork, upon arrival, Dennis of Bennett Coachwork was surprise to see me show up with my SUV, and an auto transporter. Dennis said, “I thought you were driving the Z car back to Missouri”. All I could remember was how the car ran and/or the lack of, so no way I would take a chance driving from Milwaukee to St Louis, Missouri.
Days later I am home, I take the car out on the freeway, and I was amazed, Dennis’s thoughts were reinforced by the way the car ran, I could have very well driven the car from Milwaukee to St Louis, MO..
Bob, and his staff did an awesome job on a car destined for the junk yard.
Thanks [redacted]
