Review: I went to Bennigan's in [redacted] for lunch and was subsequently overcharged for my meal. My check total came to $34.22, which I charged to my card, I left a $7 cash tip for the waitress and later found out that $41.22 was charged to my card. Because I wrote the word "cash" on the tip line and "34.22" as the total, I was very alarmed. I immediately got in touch with the restaurant when I noticed the discrepancy, however, it was very difficult to get a straight answer from them when asked how I was overcharged. The woman I spoke to said she could not locate my receipt until I sent her my bank statement. My only request was to see the receipt that I had signed. It took a week of unanswered calls and emails before I finally got in touch with the manager again. She told me she was not able to send me a copy of my signed receipt, but she would be willing to offer me a gift card for $7 (which was the overcharged amount). When I told her I was not interested in a gift card and I wanted the money that I did not authorize put back on my card, she told me they were not able to do that and they could only offer me a gift card for $7. Finally, I spoke with the owner of the restaurant who told me to come into the restaurant and get $7 cash. I did not even have time to ask his name before he hung up on me. In my opinion, everything about this situation is unsettling. I do not think that is the correct way to do business. I only wanted to see a copy of my signed receipt so I could understand where the charge of $41.22 came from after the tip was left in cash.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund of $41.22. If they are not able to locate or send me the signed receipt or if the signed receipt had been tampered with in any way, I believe I should be refunded for my meal. I also believe their inability to deal with the situation in a professional and timely manner speaks to how this particular restaurant does business.
