where do I begin,? I guess with ...happily ever after turns not what I could ever have predicted. My engagement ring was purchased there in 1999.for $4200 for the pear shape 1.04 ct wt. needless to say I kept the ring in my possession for sentimental reasons and was too distraught to part with it. I decided recently that it was time to get rid of old baggage, sorta speak, and part with it. Having all my documents I went to several stores to see what I could get for the ring..including this store in which it was purchased. to my utter shock, the ring that I purchased for $4200 for the stone alone...was worth crap...one jeweler told me he wouldn't even offer me $500. along with the fact"pear shape" were not in style...double whammy. And I was also told that the certification was not from a trusted company that everyone uses for appraisals. ISO with that punch in the gut still fresh, I ventured to the place that it was purchased.I assumed that I would get at least close to half of what I paid for it, considering it was Their diamond, with all their documents...I knew I would never get what I paid for it..so I sat down with Robert, still raw from the first encounter of we will just call, Jewelry store A...Again..Pear shape not in style..I was told they have an abundance of them in their back storage room. Don't get me wrong. the salesman was very professional and polite..unlike Jeweler A. But he told me the ring was only worth about $1500. and that included the setting with diamonds and the matching gold band with diamonds. but if I wanted it in trade for store credit. he could give me close to $2200. Wait...what?!!! I had documentation form THEIR store, stating the retail value of the ring was $8500. when I questioned that, I was told that is not the true appraised value, they just do that for Insurance purposes. I then questioned the company that does certificate, he stated that company provides 24 hour turnaround for the certs. That when they buy in bulk, it is easier when traveling, to get certs there as opposed to waiting for certs from the company in which everyone else uses as a standard. So today I had a Jeweler from NYC Diamond district take a look at ring. I was told that the QUALITY of the diamond is Not what is stated on the certificate. that the certification company usually increases the quality for the Jeweler to make the diamond seem more valuable...Now after going to 4 different places...I am in utter shock..I feel as if I got ripped off when the ring was originally purchased..and now when I am just trying to get a fair price on it. Shame on you..for making people believe your diamonds are worth so much more than what was paid for. You take advantage of unknowing victims who are just looking to start a happy place in their lives, with such hope and promise. You provided documents from companies who seem to work for YOU..and are not outside companies at all...to inflate your bottom line. I never wanted to sell this ring in the first place..but I also never anticipated being heartbroken a second time when attempting to shed myself of the attachments to my ex. It wasn't HIS fault that he paid too much. He thought he was getting the best thing for me..He was always making sure he got the best...for what his money could buy. I can't fault my ex for that...But I can inform everyone I know that to be very careful..the smoke and mirrors may have blinded us for a while...but not any more..I pray you have changed the way you do business since the time in which this ring was purchased. Maybe others haven't said anything because they figure, "why bother?" but personally I don't like to be lied to or cheated..and I feel this company did BOTH..Again I understand I would never get what I paid for the ring..but less than half of what I Paid for it?? $7000 less than appraised value??? I don't know how you can sleep at night. I wish more people would speak up and out against business practices like this overall...But one thing is for sure, It will never happen to me again. I have lived and l;earned!!
