Berg Management Company Reviews (2)

I was looking for a one bedroom apartment and noticed they had one available May 15th, in Waukesha. I set up a showing, and they told me it wouldn't be finished until 4/30 because it was under construction. I set up a showing for that day, when I got to the apartment it was all torn up! Not set off at all because things like that do run off schedule, understandable. They told me they had 5 people coming to look at that apartment that day (now I hardly believe that was true!) that if I was interested I should turn in my application that day. Which is exactly what I did. I heard back the following Tuesday that I was accepted (5/5) so she called to set up a time to come and sign the lease. I told her I would like to see the apartment one more time, finished, before I sign the lease. She told me if would be done (5/7) that Thursday. So that's when I set the appointment for. Thursday I met at the apartment, like we had the first time. No one came for 15 minutes so I gave her a call. She told me that apartment was not notified I was moving in and it was still occupied. (The apartment was vacant- obviously because they were remodeling.) So I told her it was vacant when I looked at it the first time, and there was NO WAY people were living in it. She asked me which apartment I was looking to see... I told her. And she told me that I should come down the office, sign the lease, pay the "remaining balance" on the account and then I could see the apartment. I went to the office irritated. She immediately pulled out the lease and asked me to sign it, then I told her I was NOT going to sign it without seeing the apartment finished. She said she would have to talk to her boss and see if that was possible. Rolling her eyes in irritation she went to her bosses office which was maybe 10 feet away, asked if I was able to see the apartment. Then I heard an "absolutely not" then things got quiet as if she was telling her I was within earshot. She then came back and told me I was able to peek my head in and look around briefly because they were still working on it. So I followed her to the apartment where she beat me inside, and told me she had moved the gentleman to the first floor to work so I could walk into the apartment and look around without being in THEIR way. **Which I knew was total BS because I had just been there 15 (maybe) minutes prior and they were already on the first floor working because I could see them, hear them, and knocked on the apartment door.** I went in and the apartment was still not finished of course.
Besides how irritated I was I still went back to the office, and told them I would be more than willing to sign the lease after I saw the apartment finished. (I had already paid $50 to hold the apartment) and "the boss" told me that if I didn't sign the lease that day they were going to put it back on the market. I told them on the ad that was originally placed it wasn't supposed to be available until May 15th, I was happy to move in early but asked why I was being forced to sign and move in early if it was against the original advertisement... AND the apartment wasn't finished!!!She promptly told me that "her men are working very hard" to finish the apartment and they would just put it back on the market for someone else.
So I wasted my time and my money, but it cracks me up that almost a month later the apartment is still vacant and being advertised. Guess I wasn't the only one who was sketched out by Berg Management. Which is a shame because the apartment was nice, but not feeling comfortable with who I'm paying rent too... isn't worth it.

Berg Management has been one of the worst property management companies I have ever worked with. When I first moved in to the apartment, I had to spend an entire day cleaning. The seals around the refrigerator and freezer doors were so coated in mold it took an entire container of Clorox wipes to clean up. There was dirt and hair packed into the seems around the baseboards which I had to scrape out, and there was a honey like substance spilled in a cupboard that took a while to chip out. All of this I documented on the apartment condition sheet which I returned to Berg Management. They never made any note of the horrible condition to me.
During my year in this apartment, Berg Management repeatedly left dated notes taped to my apartment door. This plainly told everyone in the building when I was away from my apartment if I was not home to take the notes down that same day. This resulted in packages being stolen from outside my door, and my mailbox being broken into.
When I moved out, Berg Management unreasonably charged me $60 to remove "pet odor" from the carpets. I had a cat living with me for the first two months I was there, and I religiously cleaned the apartment. The fact that they magically started to care about "allergens" or "cleanliness" is very convenient when they can get money from you. I have a difficult time believing that was necessary, as the entire building reeks of pot and filth, and they clearly do not care about allergens based on the mold on the fridge when I moved in. They also charged me $40 to flip a breaker! Because "who would you expect to do something like that?". How about any person with fingers and a brain who knows what a breaker is? The entire exchange over the phone regarding these charges was very unpleasant. I was polite until the very end when it was obvious I would be getting no help and nothing but snide remarks and "it is all your fault" comments from the incompetent property manager.
This was the dirtiest, crappiest apartment I have ever lived in, and I was shocked at the level of disrespect from the management. I have always received my entire security deposit back from other, far nicer and more cleanly apartments, because I am very particular about cleanliness. Do not do business with these people.
