Berkeley Medical Center Reviews (%countItem)

I had a surgery in 2017. I set up my account for auto pay. I had to call multiple times to have my account set up correctly. I finally had my account set up, I thought. I checked my account the first 2 months to make sure the payments were being taken out. They were, and I thought it was fine. The correct auto payments started in March. By July, my auto pay had been cancelled by the billing department. I was never notified. I never received a call or a letter. I never received a final collection notice. They obviously have my mailing address, because they sent it to collections without even notifying me. I have asked to speak to the supervisor and was told no. I called collections and was told that the billing department made a mistake when setting up my autopay and it was cancelled because of that. Now, they're telling me that they cant do anything to fix it, and I have to go through the collection agency.

Re: Complaint ID; ***
Dear ***:
City received Revdex.com Complaint ID and reviewed the account as requested. *** set up a payment plan in January 2018 for $100.00 a month, and advised that she would make the payments online. However, *** only made two online payments. Therefore, the account was assigned to collections. A City representative spoke with *** on April 14, 2018, pulled the account from collections, and set up a reoccurring payment plan for $100.00 a month. Unfortunately, the City representative made a mistake and processed the payment plan using the wrong payment portal.
For the next three months, City had to manually transfer the payments from one portal to the correct one. On July 24, 2018, the representative who took the original payment attempted to contact *** to let her know that City had to cancel the plan because of the portal issue. City wanted to set the payment plan up in the correct portal. The representative was unable to get in touch with ***, and she was not able to leave a voicemail because the patient did not have voicemail set up. Therefore, City mailed a statement to the patient advising that a payment was due. Three additional monthly statements were mailed, but *** never responded and the account was sent back to collections.
City’s in-house legal collection department mailed a letter to *** advising that the account was placed in collection. The debt was never reported to the credit bureaus. On January 16, 2019, *** contacted City and the collection team to express her displeasure that the account was placed in collections because she thought she was on automatic withdrawal. City notified *** that attempts to contact her were made by phone and through statements. City pointed out no payments were withdrawn from July 2018 thru January 2019, and she should have noticed that the withdrawals stopped. *** hung up on the representative. That same day, she established a $100.00 with the collection team.
Settlement:
On February 18, 2019, City spoke with *** and reached a settlement agreement. City returned the account from collection and offered *** a 20% discount ($364.71) for the error in processing. I assured *** that the account was not reported to the credit bureaus. *** agreed to continue making monthly payments of $100.00 through the hospitals MyChart system. City offered to help *** set up the payments in MyChart, but she declined and advised that she would set it up herself. Both parties are satisfied with the settlement, and I gave *** my direct line if she had any questions or needed any further assistance.

I had my blood drawn at my PCP facility and received a bill in the mail from *** (Owned by ***). When I called to ask why I was billed by them, they advised that a *** employee drew my blood at my PCP's office and processed it. My bill was roughly $500, and it stated on the bill that a self pay discount had been applied. When speaking with the representative, I told her that I had insurance, but that I didn't think the insurance would pay for anything because a *** employee drew my blood and not my PCP. She advised that if I gave her my insurance information, she could run it through and see if it would be cheaper to process through my insurance or with the self pay discount. I said great and gave her the insurance info. A few weeks go by, and I received another bill in the mail well over $800, with a note on the bill that it was processed through my insurance. I called them back and referenced my phone conversation with the employee I previously spoke with. I asked them to remove my insurance information, and re-bill me for the original self pay amount. The representative advised that they would have to speak with a supervisor and that they would call me back. Long story short, no one got back to me and I made MULTIPLE calls to them, and I was repetitively told that a supervisor would call me back, which, to this day, they still have not ONCE called me back. Last representative I spoke with advised that she was able to reference several notes in their system for a supervisor to call me back, and she herself was puzzled why no one had contacted me. She advised that my account had just been referred to a collection agency, and there was nothing further they could do to assist. They are able to offer a self pay discount for customers who are uninsured, My insurance did not pay a dime of this bill, so insurance should be removed with no issue at all. They have not called me back after repetitive attempts to speak w/mgt.

Your letter regarding the complaint *** filed with The Revdex.com regarding her past due account with ***. dba *** was forwarded to me for review and response.
I have reviewed *** account in an effort to determine if she might have a viable complaint against ***. In short, she does not. *** initial account was billed as a self-pay account. After being contacted several times for payment, on June 29, 2017, *** provided insurance information and her insurance was billed for the services. Under the provisions of her insurance policy, *** balance was then $858.46 and she was billed that amount. When she failed to pay that bill, her account was appropriately referred to collections, *** does not and cannot control the terms of *** policy with her medical insurance company and the claim was appropriately billed to her insurance per *** request.
It seems from *** complaint that she would now like to revert back to selfpay for this claim. Accordingly, *** will cancel the insurance claim. *** remains responsible for the original self-pay balance-$473.80. Should she opt to pay that amount in one, full payment, *** offers an additional discount of 20%, which would reduce her balance to $379.04.
Should you need any further information, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Garland B. N
