[redacted] had two existing smoke detectors in the house when we replaced her alarm system. We connected those smoke detectors to the new alarm system. Approximately 15 months later, I was notified that one of the smoke detectors had malfunctioned. I instructed my [redacted] to tell [redacted]...

that she should replace both, since they were approximately the same age, and if she did so, I would give her a discount on the second smoke detector. [redacted]'s conversation with our [redacted] concerned the price of the smoke detectors alone, which did not include our charge for the service call (which is $105 per call). I believe this is where the confusion lies. We made an accommodation for [redacted] and replaced the malfunctioning smoke detectors at our cost. Our Associates are very clear that we charge $105 per service call for each visit, unless the item in question is under warranty or defective. As this device was malfunctioning well after the installation date and was not installed by us, the return service call was justified and reasonable.

Review: The smoke detector in my home which is being monitored by Berkoski Security malfunctioned and it needed replacement. I called the company, made the appointment for them to come by and replace the device. During my call I asked [redacted] to tell me what the cost will be. She said replacing one smoke detector will cost $65.00 replacing two (since I have two in the house, but only one malfunctioned) would cost $55.00 for each. She did not mention anything else to me. The company came by replaced one smoke detector and sent me an invoice for $173.80 ($55.00 for the smoke detector and $105.00 for the service call plus taxes.) I called them and complained that the service fee should have been disclosed at the time the appointment was made especially since I asked upfront to disclose their fees. [redacted] told me she spoke with [redacted] her [redacted] and that he said the service fee was legitimate and nothing more would be done. I would appreciate your investigation into this matter.Desired Settlement: I believe Berkoski Security was legally obligated to disclose their service fee in the same manner they disclosed their smoke detector fee, especially when they were asked ahead of time. This was not a complicated or laborious job where they could not possibly have figured out how long it would take to replace the old smoke detector.
