Berry Children Dental

Review: Since January 2013, the office said my son [redacted], ** was in need of a dental procedure at a hospital that would require putting him to sleep. They said he needed surgery on 7 cavities immediately, however, I received a phone call in February 2013 cancelling his appointment scheduled at the end of February and they rescheduled it for March. In March I received a message cancelling that appointment stating the hospital no longer had that date available for surgeries. Minutes after that message was left, I received another message meant for a different parent, letting her know that her son could now have surgery on the date my son’s appointment had been cancelled. I called Berry’s Dental and told them my son would no longer come to their offices for dental treatment. I also informed the office manager of the message she left on my voicemail for the other parent. I started contacting other dental offices in the area and found one in Annapolis that accepted my insurance. The dentist he currently sees not only said he had 4 cavities, but it was a procedure that was done in the office that day in less than one hour. So instead of my son being put to sleep for 7 cavities, 4 was filled and sealed in less than one hour.

Since March, I have called Berry’s Children Dental requesting my refund of $50.00 (deposit) that was required to have the surgery. I have called several times and have been told different things from it was mailed, the accountant had not processed it to it was sent to an old address although correspondence has been sent to my current address for over a year. Three months later, I am still waiting on my deposit. I have requested to speak with the dentist, Dr. [redacted] Berry to no avail. I was told 3 weeks ago that the refund would be put in the mail. I live across the street from the dental office and have yet to receive it.

Yesterday, May 29, 2013, I made my last attempt to receive my deposit by going into their offices and requesting to speak with Dr. Berry. Once again, she was not available. I was left to deal with the same office manager that has not produced my refund over the past 3 months and who made brash statements such as “don’t think we are trying to keep your $50” or “we would not be doing all of this over $50. Yet, I have not received the so called “only $50”. I asked to speak with another dentist, [redacted] and she reluctantly got her to speak with me after I stated I was not leaving until I spoke to a dentist. [redacted] and the office manager sat there and listened to me and told me not much can be done until Dr. Berry was available to handle the situation. The office manager said it was out of her hands although it had been in her hand for the past 3 months.

I can’t begin to express my disappointment with this dental office. They lack professionalism, customer service and the concept of patient care. As a parent, the last thing I wanted to do was put my son to sleep for a dental procedure but I trusted this office. Then having to deal with the mistruth and poor attitude from the office is highly unprofessional. After all is said and I have taken my children elsewhere to be seen, I am still stuck with the stresses of attempting to get my refund. I was told by my insurance company that they should have never asked me to pay a deposit given my insurance.Desired Settlement: I am hoping reaching out to you will result in not only receiving my refund but questioning the practices at Berry’s Children Dental. It is highly suspicious that they said my son had 7 cavities when he did not and furthermore, needed surgery when he did not need it.
