I visited this massage parlor while visiting from CA. I paid $40 for a 30 minute massage and explained that I knot in my right shoulder.
A couple minutes into my massage the masseuse was pressing way too hard. I asked her to use less pressure and she didn't understand and asked if I wanted more pressure. I explained that I wanted less. After discussing it several requests she finally lightened up a little .... Then started pushing harder again. In the 30 minute massage I asked her several times to lighten up and she did but kept putting more pressure again - several times.
Toward the end of the massage she stood on my back with one foot by my butt and rotated the other foot repeatedly over my shoulder blade.
That night, my back became incredibly painful and terribly sensitive to the touch. This remained painful for a week and a half.
When the tenderness got better I noticed that the top of my left arm hurt and I lost mobility. After 2 weeks of pain that did not get better I went to the doctor who said that I had probably received a deep tissue massage (that I did not ask for) and it left my muscles bruised. He is sending me to physical therapy to fix it.
My Physical Therapist explained the the ball in my shoulder is being forced out of place by swollen muscles and tenants. This is the cause of the pain. Now I am on pain medication, muscle relaxers, and going to therapy.
I am extremely disappointed that all of this a result of having what I thought would be a relaxing massage while on vacation. Additionally, I am angry that this could have been prevented if the masseuse had listened when I asked her to lighten up.
