Thank you for reaching out to help resolve this situation Unfortunately I made the mistake of not writing a contract with Joanna, instead relying on our many years of friendship We agreed on the scope of work and labor price on a verbal agreement The reason I have resigned from this project is the constant change order requests The original scope of work has doubled without additional labor cost increasesA deposit is required on all projects, big or smallThere where days I was absent from the job site, but the reasoning was weather relatedIs was simply too cold to perform the task required My company treats every client in the same manner regardless of age or genderIf [redacted] was uncomfortable, she did not express it to me I will be sending a refund check of the remaining unused portion of the deposit I believe it is best for Joanna to hire another company to finish the project Thank you againRegards, [redacted]

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
It is true that we relied on a verbal contract, and I regret this as well. But I made no changes to our original agreement. Contrarily, it was [redacted] who incrementally broke the agreement, and I have known him to do this before.
His strategy is to set a price for a job and, after starting work, slowly dissuading the client from portions of the job (without lowering the original price). In the past, I was convinced by these efforts. This time, I determined to maintain the original agreement. Whenever I attempted to refuse proposed changes and request that he fulfill the original agreement, he became angry and profane. He said the job was not worth the price (though he agreed to it) and that he would give me all my money back.
After many attempts to find a solution such that he would finish the job, I agreed to cancel the job and asked for my deposit and key. He informed me that he sent a check and my key by post (though I insisted he deliver them personally). In the heat of the discussion, he claimed he wanted none of my money and would only keep enough to pay an electrician he used for part of the job. I had the electrical work appraised by another electrician who found that it was worth $250--$300. He took much more than that for his electrician and a large additional sum for himself. He also failed to return the key. This makes me feel unsafe, as he had entered my home without my permission during our disagreements.
Without a fair refund, I will not be able to finish the job for a long time. My kitchen looks the same as it did the day [redacted] left the job, torn apart and with a dripping pipe where the sink should be. My home feels unlivable as I cannot even eat normally. He has ceased to communicate with me. I already feel that I have to change my locks and that he should pay for it. His behavior was highly inappropriate. Contrary to his response, I often did express my discomfort with him.
At this point, I do not feel comfortable with him finishing the job. I want my full deposit back and new locks for my home. As it is no longer his job, I will settle with the electrician on my own. If he does not reply to me in an attempt to reach an agreement, I shall have no choice but to take him to small claims court.

Unfortunately I made the mistake of not writing a contract with Joanna, instead relying on our many years of friendship.  We agreed on the scope of work and labor price on a verbal agreement.  The reason I have resigned from this project is the constant change  order requests.  The original scope of work has doubled without additional labor cost increases.
A deposit is required on all projects, big or small.
There where days I was absent from the job site, but the reasoning was weather related. Is was simply too cold to perform the task required.
My company treats every client in the same manner regardless of age or gender. If [redacted] was uncomfortable, she did not express it to me.
I will be sending a refund check of the remaining unused portion of the deposit.
I believe it is best for Joanna to hire another company to finish the project.
Thank you again.
