Review: In June 2014, I planned a vacation with my grandchildren to Washington DC and went through [redacted] for a discount. I looked at the flights and then went to the hotels available. I hit three categories which were handicapped accessibility, shuttle and free breakfast. I called Best Western and spoke to a female agent and asked about the room accessibility for a wheelchair, was the shuttle wheelchair accessible and the answer was yes, was their a refrigerator I could use since I had to keep my insulin cold and can I get to the laundry room as well as looking for places to eat close by. All the answers I received from that phone conversation and when I called back 2 days later was also a yes. I then went onto [redacted] and booked the flight.

On July 30, 2014, I arrive at Reagan National Airport and called the hotel and when it would arrive. She said she would send it out right away. The shuttle arrived and the driver asked how I was going to get in and get the wheelchair in. I asked where the ramp was and he said there was no ramp and no wheelchair accessibility. I now had to rely on a cab to take me to the hotel. That cost me 20.00 something I was promised for free when I called back in June.

Arrived at the hotel and my room wasn't ready in which I understood because we did arrive before 3pm. When we did get to the room, the AC did not work so I went to the phone and the phone didn't work either. I had to call from my cell phone/ The maintenance man came and gave me a new phone and fixed the AC. I asked about the refrigerator and he said there was none for this room. I then kept my insulin in the ice chest and filled it several times and put it on the AC. The AC would not work after the maid service came in to clean but one day all I did was unplug it and replug it and it worked. The only day I didn't have a problem when I stayed in the room because of the weather and went later to place by cab with my grandchildren. It was the same places I had to pay for by cab that the shuttle went for free.(ie the airport and [redacted] Metro Station). Friday night I called the front desk about the laundry room and I was told it was on the 2nd floor and up the stairs. Not very good for a double bi lateral amputee. I thought she would offer to help but that didn't come across either

The last day we were there, I decided to take my grandchildren to Baltimore for the day. We left and when we came back approximately at 1045pm, the AC was not working so I did what I did the last time and it still wouldn't work. I made my first phone call to the front desk and the female desk clerk said she would get someone there in a few minutes, I waited 30 minutes and called again, once again I heard he was on his way, waited another 45 minutes and called and got the same song and dance. I finally called going on 1 am and spoke to the male desk clerk and he said the maintenance man left at 10 and wouldn't be back until 7am. Here I was calling and being told he was on his way. I guess that was a way to keep me happy but sweating so bad and not being able to sleep was something else. The male clerk came down to see what he could do and he looked at it as well as unplug and plug it in again and it didn't work. I was not happy and asked what he could do. He said he could try to get us another room but my 6 year old grandson was already asleep and I was not going to wake him up so I asked for fans and he said they didn't have any. He said he would leave a note for his boss

and would get with me in the morning. I was expecting to get a knock on my door shortly after 7 so at least I would have some AC to get ready to return home. I was up at 630 packing and nothing happened at 7 and when we went up to breakfast, there was nothing said to me when we came in to go to the breakfast. In short, we had to get ready to return home sweating like stuffed pigs and when I went to go check out and return some of the breakfast tickets, I asked who I could file a complaint with and she said since I went through [redacted], I had to take it up with them if I wanted a refund. She didn't even try to make things right or get me the manager to talk to.

I contacted [redacted] when I got home and their response was they do not handle refunds and if I had any questions to call Carlos, the manager, and I tried 2 different times but he was busy and wasn't available. I left my number for him to call me back and never did. I called corporate back in AZ and was offered a 40.00 gift card to use on another room and that was all they could offer. I am sorry that is an insult to add to injury. I was told by the woman on the phone she would email the manager to call me and that was 5 days ago and no phone call ever arrived. It appears no one wanted to accept blame for what had happened or be responsible for their people. I would never stay at another Best Western if when people call to make sure things are accessible for a wheelchair and be told yes it is and when you arrive, the answer was no. I couldn't get my money back and go elsewhere because I was told that.Desired Settlement: I would like the refund of the 355.00 I paid for the room since I was promised to have an ADA accessible ride to the places I needed to go to catch the metro and to the airport. I paid 160.00 in cab fare to go to teh same places their shuttle went to. Then having my AC break or stop working and they didn't seem to care to get it fixed that night nor first thing in the morning. (I am beginning to think that desk clerk didn't write a note for his boss to handle it Sunday morning either). Being told too bad so sad about getting anything refunded because I went through [redacted] paid Best Western not the other way around. But worst of all not hearing back from the manager shows me he doesn't care about those who stay in his hotel.
