Review: Three weeks ago I bought a gorgeous dress online for a gala I will be attending in a couple days. I tried the dress on once at home only to discover it had a broken zipper. The online company very kindly covered the cost of getting the zipper repaired at a tailor, as I didn't have time to exchange the dress. I took the dress to Bethesda Custom Tailors to have the zipper fixed about two weeks ago. I brought in the brand new dress, wrapped in plastic bag. They told me that it would take two weeks, and charged me $30 when I dropped off the dress. I picked it up yesterday, only to discover that although the zipper worked, the dress was ruined. The brand new dress was covered in stains. There were grey streaky stains on the breast of the dress, grey stains at the seams along the shoulders, armpits and zipper closure. There were also smudged orange stains on the back and the front left breast. The beadwork at the bottom of the dress looked worn and was falling out. I took in a brand new dress to get a zipper fixed, and left two weeks later with a dress that looks to have been worn and is stained to the point of being ruined. When I pointed it out to them, they refused to admit responsibility for ruining my dress, claiming that I brought them a dress in a dirty, used condition. I showed them pictures that I had taken of the dress (stain free) the night before I brought it to them, and there response was that I was lying to them and that "isn't our responsibility to tell our customers that there clothes are dirty." I left almost in the point of tears, they ruined my dress and I have never felt so belittled or treated so poorly. My boss very kindly walked back with me to at least help me get a refund. They told me that they couldn't pay me back, as I hadn't paid in the first place. I had paid, when I dropped off the dress, and after looking through a wooden box with hand written tags and receipts, they finally found my receipt and paid me back. They ruined my dress.Desired Settlement: The dress was purchased on [redacted].com for $109.99. [redacted].com gave me 25% refund on the dress to get it tailored. Therefore I would like my brand new dress that Bethesda Custom Tailors ruined, to refund me the $82.49 I ended up spending on the dress. I have the receipts.
