Throughout a job to install crown molding I expressed my concern with the quality of the installation and the omission of parts of the work. While never once indicating that he lacked experience installing crown molding, Mr. [redacted]'s failure to use a pneumatic nail gun was a early indication of just that.Throughout the project in which he was asked to install previously purchased and painted crown molding in three rooms (bathroom, kitchen and laundry room) and door trim around two doors I had to twice point out his oversights. Once I pointed out an entire section of the kitchen where he failed to install molding at all. In several areas I had to point out that he omitted the requisite caulk to the underside of the molding. The fact that I noticed that he didn't use a pneumatic nail gun at the start of the project was almost as alarming as his omission that he didn't countersink the nails but instead just "covered" them with caulk. Countersinking the nails is not an optional task for molding installation. The day he looked over the work to be performed he gave every indication that he knew what he was talking about but unfortunately his actual work performance proved just the opposite. Below is an e-mail my boyfriend sent the day he "completed" the work:"[redacted],I am disappointed in the job you did today. I thought the cuts you made were no better than what I could have done. I should have asked how much experience you had doing crown molding. I found a big glop of caulk on the front door trim at the top right. I also found a place in the bathroom that wasn't caulked. To be honest it looks sloppy and definitely not worth $250. You left some nails sticking out. Sinking finishing nails and caulking the holes is part of the job. Now I have to do that and then paint each board again. You are a nice guy but this is average work at best.[redacted]" Regretfully, it wasn't until after he left that I discovered the sloppiness of his work. In at least two corners the crown molding detail didn't even line up. This coupled with the fact that he left nails and sawdust on the carpet around the front door prompted a brief email requesting a 50% refund. "We had to go around and re-caulk several places that you missed. Added to the things listed in the prior email, I think you should refund half of the money we gave you."He performed the work on June 16, 2015. As of today's date, July 5, 2015, I have not heard back from him. I am submitting this complaint in the hopes that Mr. [redacted] takes ownership of the poor quality of his work and refunds 50% of the money we paid him to acknowledge his poor workmanship and to reimburse us for the time we had to spend going back over his work to make it whole.Desired Settlement50% of the $250.00 paid for the work, part of which had to be redone to make up for errors and oversights that took place while the work was being performed.
