Better Batter Bakery

Review: I ordered a wedding cake on February 1, 2014 for my July 4, 2014 wedding. I paid $450 in full at the time and and sat down with Tom B[redacted], owner, and designed my cake. Between that time and my wedding, the bakery had gone out of business. I was not made aware of this by the bakery and was not fully aware of the situation until after the wedding. As my date approached, I began to worry since I was trying to contact them and no one was getting back to me. I finally saw on their [redacted] page that they had "temporarily" shut the business down due to personal issues. I ended up contacting the [redacted] in [redacted] because the two businesses had the same owner. A few weeks prior to the wedding, The owner contacted me, and assured me that he would have my cake made and delivered to the venue by July 4th. He did not notify me of the bakery going out of business nor did he give me the option to refund my money. The cake was delivered as promised, however, it looked nothing like the picture I had given him when we sat down months earlier. The cake looked like it was going to collapse and the roses they put on were falling off the cake as it was melting. When the cake was cut, it began to fall apart. A few days later, I decided to contact Tom for an explanation since he made no attempt to contact me. He refused to refund any of my money since he delivered a cake and he said that they were out of business now so there was nothing he could do. I am angry that I thought I purchased a cake from a reputable bakery, only to find out that he baked it at his house. The cake looked so horrible and I feel like I was ripped off for the quality I received. The owner took no accountability for it and has done nothing to make the situation right. What's more, he lied to me by telling me that someone else was going to make the cake, when I have written proof that he baked the cake. He also said that he was doing me a favor because he spent $800 in materials to make it and I only paid $450.Desired Settlement: I would like to receive at least a partial, if not a full refund. At the very least, I would like this to be on record since he owns at least one other business ([redacted], PA). I do not know if he baked the cake at the [redacted] (since all of the equipment was auctioned off). If so, I feel that this business should still be accountable. Either way, I would like this owner to take responsibility for the product he sold me.
