Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because:Better Transmission is once again trying to hide behind the warranty. The problem with that defense is we did bring it back during the warranty period. We brought the car back in November of 2016 to have them look at the steering problem. [redacted] admitted to me on the phone that he remembered my wife bringing the car back in November 2016 to have checked. The problems started while we were still within our warranty period. ***'s team told us in November 2016 (within warranty period) there were no problems at that time. Well, if they can't find the mounting bolt that they did not tighten how are we supposed to believe they did a thorough check of my rack and pinion? Had they have put the car on the lift, checked all connections at that time they should have easily seen the bolt(s) were loose and they did not tighten properly at the time of installation of the transmission. AGAIN, WE BROUGHT THE CAR BACK DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD. I had to bring it back to them two more times after I (the non mechanic) was shown by another mechanic where a loose mounting bolt was. They were given at least 3 opportunities to see and fix the loose bolt that we could see with the naked eye. Please see the attachments I sent in with my previous response that show the loose mounting bolt. This is not my opinion. Better Transmissions are not experts on rack and pinions but they do on occasion have to loosen and tighten them to do transmission work. Other third party mechanics that are trained and certified to work on Honda cars (including rack and pinions) have looked at the car and have clearly stated the problems were due to "IMPROPER MOUNTING OF RACK AND PINION" Because they did not properly tighten the bolt(s), they caused the damage to my car and allowed my family and I to drive a car that put us in danger of loosing control of our car thus putting our lives in peril and others on the road. People who are not trained mechanics have to rely on the integrity of the mechanics we take our cars to. Allowing this company, Better Transmission to have impunity puts lives in danger. They should not be allowed to have this type of disregard for people and their safety because they are endangering not only the lives of their clients but the lives of others. Better Transmission should pay me the approximate $3,000 in damage and suffering they caused my family and I. This is an opportunity for them to be thankful that no one was hurt or died from their negligence and incompetence compared to being in court had people actually died! Regards, [redacted]

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:Better Transmission states I did not bring vehicle back during the  6 month warranty period.  The first time the vehicle was brought back to them in November of 2016  which was in warranty period. Better Transmission (BT) said there was nothing wrong with the car so we took their word for it and sent it to have an alignment done thinking that would fix the steering issue.
Second and third times the car is brought back are in August and the steering problem has gotten really bad.  The steering wheel has gotten so loose it is turning almost 40 degrees each way before responding!  The first time I bring it back in August and the office assistant, not a mechanic tells me the steering mount has been tightened.  I took the car and within a matter of minutes I realize the problem is still there.  I have to bring the car back a third time because the problem is still there and I can see with my eye the mounting bolt is still not tightened.  Later that day I am called and told the mechanic can't find the bolt. I had to come back a fourth time to show the trained mechanic(s) where the mounting bolt to the rack and pinion was!  Their is clear incompetence on BT's part as they can't even find a mounting bolt when they are told what to look for.  The expression on the mechanics face was one of shock as he could clearly see the mounting bolt was loose. I tried one more time to get [redacted] over the phone to do the right thing and pay for the repairs/damages that his team did.  I was told he would charge me over $900 to to do the rack and pinion, not all the parts/repairs needed.  I said I felt he should be able to pick up all repair costs as his business was at fault.  I told him that was not acceptable.  He offered me $100 to offset "some" of the mechanics cost and at no time did he over the phone or in person, (when I went to pick up the check) did he or anyone on his team tell me the matter would be settled with my accepting the check.  As a matter of fact when I did go to pick up the check and car they handed the check to me folded and did not at that time say the matter was settled.  Who is trying to be deceptive? I did not notice the note section until I got to my bank a few days later and I corrected the note to say for replace steering cover I should have also included the lost mounting brackets and it was to pay for the estimate Honda charged me of over $50. I took the car to a Honda dealership and paid them over $50 to inspect the vehicle.   The note from their certified mechanic clearly states "parts needed to repair power steering damage due to wear because of improper mounting of rack and pinion."  This is an impartial certified third party saying this, not me.  The repairs are going to be over $2700.  The mechanic even commented, that of course if you have a loose mounting bolt(s) the entire rack and pinion comes loose over time causing premature wear that could lead to failure.Knowing I have nearly $3,000 in expenses, the lost time of my family without a car, my repeated trips back and forth to their shop and most importantly my family and I were in danger while driving the car why would I accept just $100?  Better question may be why did [redacted] offer $100 if his team did not make a mistake(s)?I have attached the picture of the loose mounting bolt and the estimate from Honda that state clearly why the rack and pinion needed to be repaired.  Better Transmission should pay me for all these repairs and grief and definitely do a much better job of training and supervising their staff before someone really gets hurt or worse!

August 24, 2017Re: Complaint against Better Transmission, LLC at [redacted] filed by Mr. [redacted].Mr. [redacted] brought his vehicle in for transmission work on July, 05, 2016. Work was completed and the vehicle was released to Mr. [redacted] on July 14,...

2016, with a 6 month or 6,000 mile, limited, local parts and labor warranty. On August 11, 2017, Mr. [redacted] brought his vehicle back to Better Transmission. At this time he stated that he had been having a problem with his steering wheel pulling. He then went on to explain that another mechanic had looked at his vehicle and told him that there was a bolt loose that was causing the problem. Although Mr. [redacted], by this time was 26,000 miles over the warranty, Better Transmission agreed to look at it and tighten up the bolt as a courtesy.Upon inspection of the vehicle on the lift, it was discovered that the rack and pinion was worn out and leaking. The office assistant let Mr. [redacted] know that a loose bolt was not the problem with the vehicle. Mr. [redacted] then referenced the other mechanic he had gone to and insisted that, yes, it was the bolt and the other mechanic told him it was a highline hose that was leaking. He also stated that as long as Better Transmission tightened the loose bolt, the other mechanic would repair the hose. The mechanic at Better Transmission tightened the bolt he did see and we called Mr. [redacted] to pick up his vehicle. When the vehicle was picked up, the office assistant did inform Mr. [redacted] again that he should have the rack and pinion replaced. Again, he insisted that was not the problem per the other mechanic. The following Monday, Mr. [redacted] called to get a quote on replacing the rack and pinion. Better Transmission quoted him a price, in which he countered saying his other mechanic would be able to do it for significantly less. We then came to an agreement with Mr. [redacted] of covering $100.00 for the repairs to be made by his other mechanic. This was done on the part of Better Transmission as a courtesy for customer satisfaction, even though the car was 26,000 miles over the warranty, and the part that needed to be replaced was not a component covered by the original warranty.Better Transmission issued a check to Mr. [redacted] for $100.00. Upon him cashing the check, it was found that Mr. [redacted] had fraudulently altered it and we were alerted by our bank of the issue. This was done after the fact that both parties had agreed, that in helping to cover the repairs to be done by his other mechanic, the deal would be closed. This was clearly written on the check that was altered by Mr. [redacted]. I have included a copy of the original check written and a copy of the altered check. Please call if you have any questions regarding anything in this correspondence.Thank you for your time in reviewing this matter.Very Respectfully,  [redacted]Owner Better Transmission, LLC[redacted][email protected]

Being a woman I thought no matter were I went a transmission shop would rip me off. That was not the case at Better Transmission. Going into have it checked out I thought my Transmission was blown up; had no drive or second gear, just low. The owner Rene Put it on the rack as soon as I got there and said he would check it all out for free. After only 5 min he came in and told me It was just the linkage cable that needed to be adjusted. I asked how long and how much it would cost. Rene said he already fixed It and he wasn’t going to charge me anything. It’s nice to know there are still honest people at this auto repair shop. That’s why I spent so much time writing this review. If you need transmission or auto repair work I would 100% take it to Better Transmission. They are honest, and very polite after a week my transmission is still running brand new. I will never go anywhere else for any of My automotive repair except to Better Transmission.

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: I still had to pay for additional costs. Any additional constantly were a result of their workmanship. They do not specify in their response that they messed the car up on three separate occasions. The car is in [redacted] because I am currently in Afghanistan. Better transmission did not offer any assistance in getting the car to San Antonio and after three failed attempts to fix the transmission I lost fair in their ability to perform repairs.
Regards,

My overall experience with Better Transmission was excellent. The manager Bruce was very clear about the process from start to finish. The owner Rene gave me a very fair price; much better then the dealer wanted. I was very satisfied with the price and the work that was done. Transmission is still running great. I would recommend Better Transmission to anyone needing transmission or automotive work.
