After receiving the claimant's email of complaint I did a thorough investigation of the incident by speaking with our three team members working at the time. I also know one of the two customers buying shoes during the incident as they are...

prominent business owners in the city of Atlanta and longtime clients of the store. The claimant states that he was not greeted and was looked upon with unfriendly gestures. Each of the three team members greeted the customer. [redacted], a tenured salesman who was seated on a fitting stool with several pairs of shoes beside him as his client walked around the carpeted area of the store to test the new pairs he was trying on, was the first to welcome the claimant and asked if we could help him with anything. [redacted], the Caucasian employee referred to, who has been with the store since it opened at [redacted], also approached the customer with a greeting and an offer of assistance. [redacted], the store manager, did the exact same. Each did so in their own friendly way. Each time the customer emphatically answered “I’m just looking” or "I'm only looking". When the customer's wife came into the store a minute later with their two children, she sat down on one chair and ordered her daughter to sit in the chair which the customer had just gotten out of to walk around to try his new pair of shoes. Was it not unconscious and inconsiderate to have taken the client's chair while several pair of shoes and boxes sat in front of the chair with a salesman straddled on a fitting stool in front of the chair? When the customer walked back to his chair to continue to try on more pairs that were awaiting him, even the customer himself joked with the little girl and said “You can sit there if you intend to buy these five pair of shoes”. The claimant's wife found it offensive and rude that we would ask her daughter to move over to another seat on the nearby ottoman so that the customer could resume his trying on experience. When the second seated customer, a mature gentleman accompanying his friend on their shoe-buying experience, begged to be excused to use the restroom, the claimant’s wife ordered her seven year old son to take the customer's seat. When the customer returned promptly from the restroom, [redacted] asked the youngster to please move over to the ottoman so that his customer could resume trying on all the shoes that he selected and were sitting on the floor in front of his chair. The claimant himself seemed unaware of these happenings as he was looking at shoes on the outside shelves but was infuriated when his wife got upset, remarked as such, and initiated a family exit from the store.Mezlan has a small men's footwear boutique in [redacted]. This location is the smallest in our retail chain at 1105 square feet. We have 4 lounge chairs and two full-sized ottomans for seating. We have not had any problems in the seven years' operating at this location. Our customers, visitors and staff are very respectful and mindful of one another. We just don't have the seating capacity of larger stores. However, I visited a brand new designer men's footwear and apparel boutique two weeks ago that just opened in the [redacted] in [redacted]. The store is nearly twice the size of our boutique at [redacted] but has only one ottoman and two chairs in their entire store. It is not unusual to have limited Seating capacity in some of these boutiques.Please know that this is a highly irregular complaint. As mentioned in my email to the claimant, the staff at [redacted], led by store manager [redacted], **., with 22 years of recognized and honored leadership at [redacted] alone, is endeared in the hearts of thousands of mall shoppers and our Mezlan clients in Atlanta. From past Mayors of Atlanta to the most honored and recognized religious leaders in the nation, [redacted] has earned the trust and respect and affection of these clients who have come to know him. Even the two prominent Atlanta business leaders who were trying on shoes at the time of this incident, commented on how perplexed and offended they were at the behaviors and actions of the claimant's wife.We get no satisfaction from pointing these things out. We hope that everyone involved can strive to be better, more conscious individuals in life.
