Beverly's Pet Center

It's kinda ironic that this store has fish as it's profile picture on Facebook and Cover photo since they do not care about their fish.

I recently decided I wanted to go buy a new Betta fish! I know that Beverly's normally has a good selection of pets, but when I got to their BettaCenter, I noticed that 75% of their fish were "living" in TINY plastic cups that are not filled up all the way. When I say some of their fish were swimming in like two (2) ounces of water, I am not joking. The fish could not even swim. If it weren't for the fact that Betta fish are incredibly good at handling stress, they would have died. In fact, one of them was almost dead. Not only was there no more than 5 ounces in any cup at one time, but all the water was dirty.

My boyfriend and I called an associate to ask if this was regular or if they understood that this was not enough water. And he told us "Yes, we know." So I picked up and pointed at a couple fish and asked if they knew it was a pathetic and dangerous amount of water. And he said "Yes." When we asked "why," their excuse was that they were busy and the water evaporates very fast. And then when we called him out on that STUPID excuse (since I have had PLENTY of fish in the past), he mentioned that everyone has a clipboard of their tasks and the person in charge just didn't do it or forgot. He mentioned that it was Sunday and they were busy. As if the water would evaporate in the matter of one day. He also told us that they only changed the water in the PLASTIC CUPS whenever someone has time. Let's be honest, it's as simple as having a pitcher with the correct amount of stress coat and filling those cups up a little.

Fast forward about 15 minutes. After I already cried about seeing how sad their fish looked, I entered Petland Pembroke Pines. One of their associates, ***, helped us get everything we may need for a Betta. While speaking to her and her coworkers, we realized that this wasn't the first time they had heard about the mistreatment of Beverly's Pet Center's fish. Petland has at LEAST 20 puppies to take care of along with bunnies, kittens, and more. They have the same BettaCenter set-up as Beverly's. But each one of these fish had a tiny bowl with plenty of water for them to swim around. They were able to swim and actually move their fins so that they were able to remain in the water. Their water was a bit dirty, but it gets cleaned at least twice a week. Their fish looked happy and healthy. I was too busy crying at Beverly's to remember to take a photo of their fish, the 4 to 6-ounce plastic cups they keep their Betta's in had the water filled up at about two finger lengths. Unfortunately, I cannot attach a photo to this review.

I later went to "Fish Paradise" to get more stuff for my new scale baby. I was wondering how they felt about Beverly's since the Petland associates were unhappy. "Disgusted" is an accurate description of how they looked when they heard the name.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not give this company business. If this is how they treat their fish, how do they treat their other animals? If they are too understaffed to fill plastic cups, I hate to think about what other corners they cut. ZERO STARS. DO NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL.
