Rewiring broken Audio cable Beyerdynamic DT-770 Headphones
I simply love these headphones! widest dynamic range.. kudos.
However, the headphone cable is attached, permanently. Many other headphone manufacturers will opt for exchangeable cables. coil or straight, but they use the Mini-XLR male on the cans and mini-xlr on the cables. My cord ripped (straight cord) while in the recording studio, by accidentally stepping on it, and ripped out of the TRS at the amplifier end. NO WAY TO FIX THIS.. now these 175.00 headphones are junk and unusable.

I will try and repair them myself since I cannot find anyone in the US that will fix them. So, got the soldering iron out, bought a set of mini-XLR males to install in the wire hole already on the Left headphone, and then attach these micro fine, omg, tiny tiny diameter wires, with a coating? what's with that?

Also, after attempting to first replace the TRS plug, I found three wires. Blue, Red, and Copper. There is NO wiring diagram anywhere that defines which is which. What I am guessing is that :

Incoming Copper wire is connected to the Red wire to the R-speaker,
Incoming Red wire is connected to the R-speaker via the White wire
Incoming Blue wire seems to be?

the Incoming Blue wire seems to be connected to the L-speaker because it seems to be connected to a solder stud that has smaller than a hair-thin set of wires that are seemingly going to that L-speaker. So, where's the ground wire that is going to the L-speaker? there are two of those hair-thin wires that tuck under the plate, and I believe are going to the R-speaker; However, it seems that the Incoming Red wire is the ground? This violates everything I know about audio cables/wires. I would have expected that RED is R-speaker, and Blue is L-speaker and Copper is shield or ground; What did I miss?

Also, with the red/white pair going to the L-speaker it is not clear as to Which of those wires is the hot and which is the ground. To get them wrong is to have both Left and Right ears being out of phase, and long-term use will really mess you up, esp if you're doing audio mixing.

These are fantastic headphones, I am so very disappointed the Beyerdynamic hasn't thought this through and built them with a much better design.

Out of frustration not being able to find a service that will repair these; I bought the new 700-Pro X Headphones that DO have detachable cables, but now I have another set that are completely unusable, out $170. (was this built-in obsolescence?) I found on etsy.com that THIS problem is more common than I believe Beyerdynamic realizes, and I do feel they owe it to all Beyerdynamic customers an offer to have YOU fix these and upgrade them to the mini-xlr connecters like Shure, AKG.. why not fix mine? You owe me for a really bad design, and I believe you should recall them all and replace them with DT700-Pro-X head cans.

Thanks in advance, this has been a nightmare for me, and I KNOW other users are feeling the same.

would have been very helpful to avoid problems in the future. Aside from this fact, I have told the customer that his problem will be resolved immediately. While going back and forth with email, he was away and was unable to return the product. He has now returned and has informed me that he has sent out the defective unit. We are paying him for the return freight. A new item will be shipped out to him as soon as the defective unit is received. He seemed happy with this proposal for resolution of his complaint, and has sent me proof of the return shipment. I will be reimbursing him for this fee today. Review: I ordered two products from them online on Sunday and paid for two day shipping and it is Thursday and my bank account has been charged, but I did not receive my product or an email confirming shippment. I sent them an email asking if it has even been shipped and they did not respond nor have I been able to talk to anyone on the phone.Desired Settlement: I want what I have paid for.

Review: A pair of headphones I purchased from them broke and they are under warranty but I cannot get a hold of this company. I have left 3-4 emails, called numerous times, and left messages. These people simply do not respond. I used contact info found on this website.
