[redacted]DOCUMENT ATTACHED[redacted] Brought his 1993 Chevy van in because it was running badly, had no power, exhaust leak and AC quit working.  A back pressure test showed the catalytic converter was plugged.  We also pulled fuel filter and it was plugged solid, as was the air cleaner.  There...

were no engine codes, no diagnostic feed back (1993).  So, we started with the obvious.  The exhaust leak and the donut gaskets was so loud you couldn’t hear the engine so we fix those first.  Flanges were warped, donuts burned out.  Book time is 3.5 hours for both lead pipes not including flange repair.  Pulling the catalytic converter was a diagnostic tool.  That, along with the fuel filter and air filter seemed to help the van a lot.He drove it home, knowing he still needed a converter, but his wife needed it for her weekend trip and I had to special order a converter OBD1 for his big block G30.  We discussed putting n his old converter, but I reminded him it was plugged so we ordered a new one for him.  We were still not done with the van.  I expected to be working on it the following week.  Something damaged his manifolds, donut gaskets and converter and before a new converter went on it, we needed to find that engine issue.  He has emissions soon and needs a converter as well.However, it was not misfiring and ran good when it left here.  He would not of sent his wife off to the coast in it, if it wasn’t.  He said it ran better when he called after picking it up, we discussed the converter then as well.It came back Tuesday and running very badly this time.  It has not been diagnosed yet.  We gave him the option again, new converter or old converter, no additional labor either way.The engine misfire is a separate issue.  Because of his upcoming emissions test, we felt his money to fix that should be at a shop that is certified in emissions.  They can guarantee he will pass emissions after they fix the problem or give him a waiver.  We cannot do either.  We are not state certified in emissions.  I referred him to Doug @ Wardels.He paid for the labor to install a converter.  He has a new EPA approved converter installed.  The installation is not defective.  The labor is appropriate.His exhaust leak @ both donut gaskets are repaired.  The work is not defective.  The labor is appropriate accordingly to Mitchell on Demand labor guide.  His flanges are repaired, donuts are installed, both left and right side are not leaking at the donuts.  Fixed.We did not fix everything.  The van needs more work.  The misfire needs to be looked at by an emission certified shop.  I gave him a rough estimate for manifold labor and AC work.  We did replace h is catalytic converter and repair both donut gasket/flange exhaust leaks.  Among other things listed on his receipt.  The labor he is disputing is in my opinion not up for discussion.  We did the work.  The work is good.  Our labor is not defective.  We did not harm, no damage.  The issues are fixed, and it was a quality repair.Our communication was beginning to break down and he was agitated.  At that point, we decided he would benefit more at a shop that can promise he will pass emissions.  Our work is compliant and legal.  I could not put a converter on the van before he needed it for the weekend, unless we put his plugged converter back on.It was not running bad or misfiring when it left the shop for the weekend.  He knows that.Enclosed are Mitchell on Demand labor guide estimates for these repairs.  Book time.  I’ve also included labor book time for [redacted]’s manifolds.  He does not realize how labor intense these van body motor homes are.
