We received this chain in exactly the length we returned it to the customer inI am the sales clerk and owner of the business and I am the one who took the job inTo confirm that my memory was correct about the job, my husband took the chain back to the jeweler who worked on it and he remembered the chain as being exactly that size because he remembered thinking, "This is a very short chain"We suspect that the chain was probably broken in two places--the original break that she knew about and wanted repaired and then broke again sometime before bringing it to us and that the customer lost the other piece of the chain prior to giving it to us but does not realize thisWe refunded the customer's money for the repair, which was $since she was dissatisfiedThe entire chain weighed a little over one gram, meaning a section of the chain that is in question would have weighed less than 1/a gram, placing the gold value for that piece at less than $Since we paid our jeweler $to repair the chain and refunded the customer $25, we are out $for this repair, so in no sane, logical world, would 'stealing' less than $worth of gold from a customer make any sense whatsoever as this would still leave us with a loss of over $Not to mention, our reputation is worth far more than anyone's piece of jewelry, be it a $chain or a $50,ringIn addition, our repair process is such that any excess gold is returned to the customerAll parts during a job are placed in a trayIf there had been another piece of this chain and we were in error, the chain would be in the trayTherefore, the customer does not have a legitimate complaint

We received this chain in exactly the length we returned it to the customer in. I am the sales clerk and owner of the business and I am the one who took the job in. the chain as being exactly that size because he remembered thinking, "This is a very short chain". We suspect that the chain was probably broken in two places--the original break that she knew about and wanted repaired and then broke again sometime before bringing it to us and that the customer lost the other piece of the chain prior to giving it to us but does not realize this. We refunded the customer's money for the repair, which was $25 since she was dissatisfied. The entire chain weighed a little over one gram, meaning a section of the chain that is in question would have weighed less than 1/2 a gram, placing the gold value for that piece at less than $10. Since we paid our jeweler $15 to repair the chain and refunded the customer $25, we are out $40 for this repair, so in no sane, logical world, would 'stealing' less than $7 worth of gold from a customer make any sense whatsoever as this would still leave us with a loss of over $30. Not to mention, our reputation is worth far more than anyone's piece of jewelry, be it a $100 chain or a $50,000 ringIn addition, our repair process is such that any excess gold is returned to the customer. All parts during a job are placed in a tray. If there had been another piece of this chain and we were in error, the chain would be in the tray. Therefore, the customer does not have a legitimate complaint.
