Review: took my 2011 KIA in for oil change and tire rotation! left it with them 3 hrs later I received a call

explaining the oil change was complete but there was another issue! and I asked what that was

well telling me that they had an accident with my car! I said what they told me it was backed up into another vehicle

a jeep to be exact! and there was damage to the back door! but they would pay for all repairs....OK I went and picked up the car was not happy at all! was told to take it to a shop of my choosing and they would pay! lol yea right

still waiting for money I had to pay in rental plus the last 184.72 dollars to body shop! I have all receipts.mike the mgr there is well for a better word, intellectual challenged. and there was a few phone calls from this man telling me there not paying regular rate to a body shop and I would have to take the car to there shop and that would be it, so at that point I called my insurance and let them deal with big o! because I was finished with being spoken to as it was my fault! I didn't smash my car they did,and I was told they would cover it all! but they didn't cover it and going through that BS from him when it was there fault regardless!! I will also be contacting the corporate office and channel 3 on your side [redacted]! as this is not the only issue with big o that I have had! I feel that the public has a right to know just what kind of people there dealing with, and if an accident should happen to another person leaving their vehicle to be repaired at big o tire will be treated in the same fashion! a few others are great to work with there ,and they say the same things its not right but cant do anything to resolve the problems because of management! i'm sure enough complaints will bring the corporate office down and maybe straighten out the lack of supervision within, and the ability to treat the customer paying there wage a lot better!!Desired Settlement: pay the outstanding amount still owed for rental car and partial body shop bill left owed that I had to pay ,in order to get my vehicle! I have all receipts

Review: My wife dropped off my car at about 7 a.m. yesterday morning because one of my tires was flat. We had placed a spare tire on my car the previous night. The tire was covered under road hazard warranty. Since the other tire was down to 5/32", I opted to have that changed as well.

I was told that the car would be ready at 6 p.m. (nearly 11 hours). I paid for the 2nd tire as well as the tax on the 1st tire and headed out to my car.

HOWEVER, I got to my car to discover that my spare tire was still installed and the new tire (with the alloy wheel) was not in sight. When I brought it back, I was told that there was a "new guy who must have forgotten to put it on." 20 minutes later, they pulled my car out again.

However, I was suspicious this time and decided to check on the condition of both tires. The spare tire had indeed been changed it out with a new tire, but my other 3 tires were still the SAME OLD TIRES. I pointed this out and requested to be compensated (refunded) and have the new tire installed anyway considering that: a) my car had been at their facility for over 11 hours without any work done to it and b) they had originally left on my spare tire, subjecting me to considerable risk if I had driven into town (we're 25 miles outside of Phoenix) if I had not noticed this during my visual inspection.Desired Settlement: Given the time and trouble of not having my car completed (despite the refund), I wish to be compensated for the other tire that I requested for replacement considering the risk that I was subjected to.

Review: I took my 2007 Lincoln Navigator in because it was misfiring, no other issues or leaks. I get a call stating the 2nd cylinder was misfiring and when a block test failed they said the engine needs to be replaced. I picked up my car without having any repairs done. I wasn't even a mile away and the car overheats. I get home and the radiator reservoir was completely empty. I have never had one leak or any radiator fluid in my garage. I immediately called and spoke with the shop supervisor and he said the tech mentioned on the test drive that the car was steaming. I have been driving the car 80 miles round trip daily and drove to the location just a few hours earlier with no leaks, no fluid in my garage and all the sudden when I pick it up the car overheats. I was never told at all anything about steam coming from the vehicle. I have heard of so many people having horrible experiences with this location and I tried to give them a chance. I now have a car that was completely drive able this morning and now I can't even drive. This is absolutely ridiculous and I am extremely upset with the experience. I will never go to Big O again after this experience.Desired Settlement: I am reluctant to even let them fix my car, but now it needs to be fixed.

Business

Response:

This vehicle was brought in for a diagnostic due to the vehicle running rough, the technician took the vehicle for a test drive and noted steam coming from the engine compartment, he than proceeded to run his diagnostics to include hooking up the scanner and doing a block test, due to the steam he witnessed during the test drive.

The results from these tests showed the vehicle to have no compression on the one cylinder and the block test showed that the vehicle had an internal leak of coolant, typically caused by a major overheat of the engine. The vehicle was not driven by our technician at any length of time or distance to cause this type of failure.

We made our recommendations for repairing the vehicle and the customer was upset with what we had found. We did not charge the customer for our time and we recommended to the customer to have the vehicle towed from the facility if he was not going to have us perform the necessary repairs, the customer left prior to allowing us to give him the finalized paperwork.

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

This is why I am dissatisfied. I did receive the paperwork from Big O. It stated that I need an engine/heads failed block test, heater hoses (cracked and leaking) and radiator hoses. Not driveable. I had a local mechanic come out on Sunday (the day after Big O looked at the car) and he replaced the heater hose as that was the only one leaking, spark plugs and coil kit. I paid a total of $405 for all of that including labor. Once complete, he ran an additional block test that passed with flying colors. My engine is in perfect condition and does not need replaced like Big O said. This shows the dishonesty at this store. I am very upset with the situation as I was never told when I left with my car that the tech saw steam coming from my car and I drove home with no radiator fluid. The reason in the store the sales guy told me that the tech said my car was not driveable was because it needs a new engine, nothing about the radiator or car steaming when he drove it. He then just handed me the keys and paperwork and let me walk out when the tech knew there was no radiator fluid in my car. I find all of this out after my car overheats on the way home and smellls completely like radiator fluid when I call back up to Big O. This should have been told to me before I walked out the door that my car was steaming. There is no way that just happens as it was perfectly fine when dropped off and no radiator fluid smell at all in my car. To prove they did indeed give me paperwork, I have attached it.

Response:

The block test we did failed with the manager watching it, it was done twice to verify. This is a common tool of the industry and it is what we based our recomendation off of.

Review: I took my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee in for a routine transmission flush and filter change. I was charged $275. The next day my car broke down. I had to pay a tow truck to bring in back to Big O tire. Today , Wednesday, I was told I need a new transmission and it would cost $2500. I now have to tow it to a reputable company to replace a transmission that did not have any problems before I took it to Big O.Desired Settlement: I would like my original money back for transmission flush and filters $275

I would like my tow truck bills paid

I would like for my new transmission to be paid (do not have bill yet--approximately $2000.

I also do not have a vehicle to go back and forth to work

Re: [redacted]

Concern: Transmission failure

on 10-01-02

To Whom It May Concern:

On 9-30-2013

Mr. [redacted] brought his vehicle in for a routine transmission flush and filter change. On 10-3-2012 he towed it in with engine light

on and transmission slipping. Upon diagnosis vehicle had a solenoid code which

reflected internal transmission concerns. We did not drop the pan because Mr.

[redacted] was concerned that maybe wrong fluid could have been the issue. We gave

him a price for a transmission repair and he declined repairs. Mr. [redacted] then

towed the vehicle to Tri-City Transmission. Upon further inspection Tri City

found that the internal filter spun off inside the transmission. If we had sent the vehicle to

our transmission shop we would of found out as well but Mr. [redacted] wanted to

take it to a shop of his choice.

I spoke with Mr. [redacted] on

10-03-2013 and told him we would pay for the repairs to Tri – City Transmission and

reimburse him for the repairs he did with us as per customer satisfaction. Mr. [redacted]

agreed this was fair compensation.

Yours truly,

Review: I took my car to Big O Tires because I had a check engine light on, a traction control light, and the car was having a hard time starting. They diagnosed and recommended a tune up and replacing a sensor. After receiving those services and paying $575, my car still had all of the symptoms mentioned above. They then determined that my fuel pump was recalled and advised I should take it to a car dealer for that repair. After getting the new fuel pump, all warning lights are off and the car operates normally. The manager refuses to fully refund my money (he offered 270 back) because he claims that they corrected a "code" that appeared on their diagnoses. I have every reason to believe that code would have been corrected with the new fuel pump. In addition, I did not arrive at Big O with the request that they fix any "codes", but rather that the issues above were addressed. I have made every attempt to work with the local manager, however the situation is still unresolved.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund. My car was not repaired as a result of the services rendered at Big O Tires. I had to take it to a dealership after wasting way too much time at Big O while they unsuccessfully tried to fix the issue.

Business

Response:

This vehicle had 2 codes in the system, when we pulled the codes. After all diagnostics ran from the tech it lead to a mass air flow sensor. The other code was a part of the mass air flow sensor or possibly another issue. The customer was informed we had to start with the sensor. The spark plugs had been recomended based on mileage, not to correct an issue. We ordered the part a few days later installed. We cleared the light and it came back on later when she was driving. We brought it back in and found a different code and found that a tsb was out on that code for a fuel pump recall. So we informed her that the dealer will replace at no charge. The manager tried to explain how lights and codes work and she just didn't seem to care. At that point he asked what he could do for her? She wanted a full refund for diag, sensor and plugs. He said if your not happy with what I'm saying I will credit you the sensor, and that it would be 100% customer satisfaction because we did do our job with the diagnostic, she had a different non related issue.

Consumer

Response:

When I arrived at Big O, I asked to have my car fixed, not "codes removed". All symptoms were present again before I even got home from the store, at which time I returned immediately to the store to report. in addition, the part that was replaced has the same symptoms as the part that was replaced at the dealer that ACTUALLY FIXED THE PROBLEM. I understand that they attempted to address the symptoms that my vehicle was showing, however that does not change the fact that they misdiagnosed the problem and then charged me for it. The response is personal in nature when it is stated that I "did't seem to care". I could share a lot of feedback on how I feel the manager conducted himself during our conversations, however I don't find it pertinent to this process.

Business

Response:

We stand behind our work performed, we did not "mis diagnose" the repairs we performed. Mass air flow sensor indeed fixed a problem in the vehicles system. We run diagnostics and had the conclussion of a bad mass air flow sensor, in that same diagnostic there was another code stored in the system, we did not upsell or charge for any further items on that situation because it could have been related to the first problem. we started with obvious problem and cleared any stored codes in the computer, instead of costing the customer more money out of pocket we tried to save that customer the money in the case it was a faulty code. when the customer came back days later the system had a code not present during the first diagnostic, we looked at it no charge to the customer and after the diagnostic we found a bad fuel pump, we also found a technical service bulletin saying that it is under a recall and that it would be replaced for no charge to the customer. We also did that out of good faith because it is not our responsibility to see if a customer has a warranty situation with manufacturer. We have offered a refund for the customer on the part we replaced that did fix a problem but we will refund for customer satisfaction. any other work that was performed was done and is working properly. diagnostic and maintenance was done and is ok.

They've always tried to upsale me and I've said not but continued to go because they're open on Sundays. However, after taking my car there for 2 years, today they wouldn't do my oil change because they said I had to have the most expensive one and if I didn't it would void my warranty. Even though they've done the cheaper oil change for the last 2 years. When I said no thanks the salesman became upset, I said I was tired of them always trying to "upsale" and took my keys to leave. He yelled "how am I trying to upsale, look at the screen." Very unprofessional. Oh did I mention that they also said my tires only have a month left, even though another mechanic had looked at them recently and said they were fine? If you go to this store beware.

Review: I went for an oil change at this establishment and during the process a technician broke my dipstick on my car and told me it was normal wear and tear. I advise the serviceman that every car has normal wear and tear but if you break something on someone's car, you are liable to repair it. The service man began to argue with me about wear and tear and how they weren't responsible. I asked him for is insurance information for the business so I could file a claim. He refused to give it to me. Than another tech said he would replace it the next day, however I wouldn't be allowed back to the store to gave my car serviced again. I told him that was ok I would never let irresponsible people touch my car again.Desired Settlement: I would like repairs and an apology.

Business

Response:

The owner contacted the customer and we purchased a new dipstick, customer was satisfied with the resolution.

I took my 63year old disabled mothers van into this shop today for an issue with the alignment and tires. She had one tire on the driver side that was about to show wires and was in need of some type of correction. After speaking with ones sales guy I was informed on a price for tries and alignment. Unfortunately at the time we were not able to purchase the tires but wanted the alignment and was informed that it would be taken care of and the problem would be fixed. Two hours after the time given we were sitting in the waiting room and had to ask the status of the vehicle. Apparently the van had been finished for some time but the sales guy went to lunch and didn't tell anyone it was complete. After getting that squared away and paying for the service provided I requested a print out of the alignment corrections. I was informed that the mechanic did not print the report. I was assured that the work was completed. I went out to my mothers van and looked underneath and saw no tool marks on any component that deals with alignment. I asked the assistant manager about the situation and he said ill just refund your money. I was not happy with this action and it seemed like it was no big deal that they got caught for not completing a job but charging for it. I briefly spoke to the manager, [redacted] who called me a liar and hung up on me after requesting further investigation. I still have not heard back from their corporate center. I would highly advise driving the extra miles into chandler to get work done. They have an attitude of being a big franchise in a small town and seem to treat costumers how ever they feel like with no repercussion for their actions.

Review: I brought my vehicle into big o tires in [redacted] yesterday dropped it off at 8:30 am was told that it would be completed by noon or so, it wasn't done until 3pm and they obviously didn't have the correct tools to complete the job. I came back to pick up the car paid them and went to start the car it was so dead that it wouldn't turn over or click anything. I talked to the store manager and he said that his guys left the key on and probably the blower motor left on for hours killed the battery won't take a charge. Now I have to replace the battery because he refuses to. I've lost 200 + in income and many hours of my time.Desired Settlement: Replace my battery and give me a refund.

Business

Response:

First of all I the store manager never said we left anything on, the customer claims we left his key or blower on. We had to order in a special part for this vehicle and it was told to the customer his vehicle would not be done until late afternoon. we did not have his vehicle in the shop while we waited for the part to arrive. When the part arrived we worked on his car for approximately one hour, when we went to start his vehicle it would start, we put a jumper box on it to get it started. we informed the customer he may need a battery replacement. The customer had just recently purchased this vehicle within the last month, I asked the customer if he knows how old the battery is in the vehicle and he has no idea. [redacted] is very hot and batteries can die at any time, it also takes alot more than leaving a key on or a blower to kill a good battery. In this case we did not leave anything on in his vehicle, the car just simply has a weak battery that is due for replacement. We have offered to sell him a battery at our cost of the part. We will not give a free battery due to the fact that we are not at fault for his weak battery dying. We will even install the new battery at no charge.

Review: I serviced my Ford Explorer in May at Big O Tires in Maricopa AZ due to the air conditioner blowing hot air. My vehicle was diagnosed and repaired for $600. Within two (2) months, the same issue occurred whereby, the air conditioner is blowing hot air. I brought the vehicle back to BiG O Tires in Maricopa AZ and was informed that it would cost another $741 to fix the air conditioner. I believe that the initial diagnosis was not correct or Big O would have picked up that there were additional problems. Because the vehicle is old, 2005, I would not have agreed to fix the car in May and paid the $600 had I known that there would be another $741 charge to fix it. I believe that Big O Tires did not sufficiently diagnose my vehicle. Their mistake has cost me to waste $600.Desired Settlement: Since the entire diagnosis would have been to replace more hoses than they fixed in May, I would either like Big O to fix the remaining air conditioning issues for service parts only (no labor) since they could have fixed the additional issues while they were in there the first time. Or refund me the $600 since the air conditioning does not work.

Business

Response:

We addressed the issue with [redacted] he came to the store to look at the new problem with the air conditioning. We visually showed him the a/c hose replaced 2 months ago and showed him the a/c hose that is leaking currently. this hose was not leaking and did not need attention or repaired at the time of service. We do not sell items unless they are diagnosed bad or faulty. The new issue is different than the issue 2 months ago and [redacted] understands and has decided to trade in the vehicle instead of putting more money into it. We are a reputable shop and strive to satisfy all customer concerns and show and tell what it recommended. It was very clear what was done last time and what was needed this time. [redacted] picked up the vehicle, left and we all shook hands.

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

My husband ([redacted]) did stop in at Big O Tires and the manager did indeed provide a response however, that response did not constitute an agreement of what we believe to be resolved. At the end of the day, the additional hoses that were deemed "deteriorated" by Big O Tires did not deteriorate in two months; in other words when Big O Tires supposedly assessed and then fixed the original problem, the issues with the additional hoses were not brought to our attention. Had that been the case, we would not have fixed the vehicle and paid the original ~$600. As a consumer, who by the way, have spend lots of money at Big O Tires in the past, we feel like they assessed part of the problem only (intentional or unintentional, as it were). If Big O Tires is saying that they were unaware of the additional hoses that (were deteriorated, their words), I am led to believe that they are not competitent or if they fixed only part of the problem and knew additional business would be forth coming that is unacceptable. In either event, Big O Tires' response was unacceptable.

Review: Big O has a promotion on their website here in AZ for free windshield wiper blades if we print out the advertisement. My son and I each brought in a coupon for 2 different cars to receive the free blades. The male at the counter told us that he could not honor the coupon without a complete vehicle inspection. NO WHERE in the coupon does it say that we have to have a vehicle inspection. He said they he "got in trouble" for giving them away. I feel like they are requiring this to find something wrong to bait me into spending money. I just wanted the free blades for the 2 cars in which we had the 2 coupons for. I did not even want them to install them for me. I would do them myself.Desired Settlement: I would like the 2 sets of wiper blades that my son and I had the coupons for.

Business

Response:

I apologize for the confusion with the promo on our part, the promotion was set up by corporate and not communicated to the store level properly.

Please have the customer go to the location and see either [redacted] (assistant manager) o[redacted] (manager) and pick up the 2 sets of wiper blades.

My husband and I took his truck in to be looked at because it was over heating and causing issues w/ the a/c and just running poorly. We advised the store several times that we thought it might be the radiator and to have them lo......ok at it. While in their possession they claimed that they could not get his truck to overheat and advised us that he needed to replace all the hoses/ belts etc. They did also advise that my husband needed to replace a fan clutch. We said to go ahead with the hoses and whatever else, but did decline the clutch since they explained that even though it should probably be replaced that it was fine for now. They explained that there was nothing wrong with the radiator at all. We paid over $600 for the hoses, etc. As soon as we get the truck back it continues to overheat and run poorly. We bring the truck back, now we're being told there were parts to the radiator that were corroded and that now the entire radiator needs replaced. After arguing for over an hour with the store manager Brian he decided to put a new radiator in, but wants to go 50/50 in on the cost of the radiator.. also now telling me we need a new fan clutch like the last time, but that it was causing a huge issue. All in all the store wants to now charge us additional $400 including the cost of a new fan, and $205 on the radiator. Can you say RIP OFF?????!!!!!! I am enraged. What should have been fixed the first time we brought in the truck they are now saying needs to fixed, but want to charge us even more money. NO ONE SHOULD EVER GO TO THIS BIG O TIRE STORE EVER.. The manager even gave me an example of a poor customer they had that has had to come into the store 5 times now for the same issue.. I feel even worse for this woman as she is also getting taken advantage of by this store. If I brought my vehicle in to them 2 or even 5 times and you still have issues finding the problem that means you are not very good at all at what you do. Its their job to find the problem and fix right the first time!

I have to say big o tires in [redacted] az is awesome the guys that work there are friendly even when they ate busy you can go in and they will greet you with a smile and take the time to check them for you so if you want good friendly service big o tires in [redacted] az would be the place to go

Review: About 3 weeks ago I dropped of my 2002 Ford Windstar for a oil change and check up. I was told I needed a spark plug change flue filter a tune up and valve cover set replace etc. fo0r a total of 900.00 when I went to pick it up on 01/10/2016. I tried starting the car and the battery was dead, They said I needed a new one (I just got that battery a year ago and was fine when I drove it in) I had a [redacted] employee try jumping my car and it died as he disconnected it, so we tried again and he told me to give it some gas, so I did for about 30 sec. then , the oil light and check engine light went on as I pulled out of the shop I turned the car around and went back I had the car no more then 3 min total. The car smelled like burning oil and check engine light was on and off, oil light on.

They then looked at the car I am unsure of his name I thing he was a manager, he asked if the tech changed the oil, no one answered then he said he thought they did not do a oil change after the service, he said they will keep it overnight and they take care of it, called today 01/11/2016 spoke to someone @ 10:32 am who said he will check on it he then told me it looks to be a clogged oil valve. and when its done they will call me.

Then at 2:28pm 1/11/2016 Mike called me to tell me I need a new Engine. that's all and its my fault that I revved the engine. and I will Have to pay for it ,so not only am I out the 900.00 I paid Big o tire to fix my care I now have to get a new engine. At now time during this did anyone take any ownership for what they did, I had the care a total of 3 min check your big o tires camera you will see I got a block away and came back with engine light on oil lite on and smoking and it smelled like burning oil.Desired Settlement: I want Big O tire to stand by the fact they made a mistake during the fixing of my car, and not try to say in the 3 min I had the car I broke it. all I did was have a Big o Tire employee jump my car

Business

Response:

I talked with Mr. [redacted] about what happened with his vehicle. It seems like there was an internal problem in the engine that caused it to fail. It is a possible that it was the coolant mixing in with the oil from the gaskets leaking that caused some internal damage. None the less we want to satisfy our customers. We are going to put in a used engine for our cost for customer satisfaction. Above that we are going to change out some of the gaskets on the used motor and give the engine a 2 year warranty to ensure the customer has a good sound engine. Also the next three oil changes on the vehicle will be no charge.

Consumer

Response:

I am ok with this outcome. I spoke to big I tire today and we agreed on 600.00 payment for all work and the used engine .[A default letter is provided here which indicates your acceptance of the business's response. If you wish, you may update it before sending it.]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me. I will wait until for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.
